Yeah, I was on the max does of both zantax and prilosec for ages at one point, and STILL not able to eat like a normal human being. I actually had very good luck when I went off of those for a while and just age yogurt every night and took a couple of tablespoons every night of this manuka honey (which has an extremely high anti-bacterial ability - they use it in wound treatment, and for diabetic ulcers, and all kinds of things.) I was able to stay off the meds altogether for a good while - now I take one of the new PPI's, but I'm not going to stay on it much longer. I think staying on the prilosec so long is part of why I had that bad tibia fracture back several years ago. Apparently it depletes calcium pretty badly (but no one tells you that.) I don't have osteoporosis, and didn't take a bad fall, but they said the fracture I had was one that was usually only seen in osteoporosis patients.
