Bullet tenatively dodged

Apparently brother meant it when he said 'he was over it' since he obviously didn't say boo about him fighting with me because Mom and Dad and I talked for an hour on the phone. Mom IS over it because I knew she would be. Oh don't get me wrong. She'll harbor a grudge and throw it in my face down the road but whatever.

Everything is now out of my grandmother's house. My cousin who ostracized himself from the family turned up yesterday and took some stuff acting like he hadn't spent the last decade not speaking to us. Whatever. I do think he should have something of grandma's. He was her favorite after all even though he did jack for her. (She loved his mom and all her kids even though they only saw her about 4 times a year) She didn't care that much for my mom or me or my brother and we were there almost every day helping. Go figure.

The auction house came and took the rest and some other guy came and got the 1930s Maytag out of the basement. He retrofits them with gas engines and sells them to the Amish.

It's slowly sinking in I'll never see my grandmother's house again. It's been in the family for a century. Sigh.

Speaking of homes. I had to go jam rags in my doors to stop the leaks as it's now 27 degrees out there. I looked at houses to buy again and...this place makes me sob. All I can find in Albany are 20 year old double wides or big McMansions so far out of my price range (and WHY are they even there?) and it's making me wonder do I really want to live an hour from work just because half my friends are in Athens?

So I looked at Wellston and was once again reminded why I shouldn't live there. The place was something back at the turn of the last century but it hasn't been anything for damn near a century. Realtor.com had two pages of houses all under 80K and have been for sale for a year or more because no one can afford them.

So I looked at Pomeroy another queen city in the sternwheeler days but deader than a doornail now.

I could buy a house from less than I paid for my CAR. No seriously See here it is There are a handful of houses all under 40K.

Then this one is back on the market. I am tempted but a) 100 year old slate roof that will need replacing b) in a dead town in a dead end street surrounded by shit houses and the view of the river blocked by a commercial building (all of which make me want to burn the crap to the ground so this house can have its grandeur back) c) how the shit would I HEAT it??

Still I would love this place. I could be a proper hoarding cat woman in this place.

My writing is so stalled today. I need someone to war with. I do so much better with competition to the point I'd suggest a FB chat word sprinting match up once or twice a week. But here have a writing link Raising the stakes in your story

And my stomach is acting up again. I hate this organ.

So far behind

17725 / 50000 words. 35% done!

And yes this happened in my story today...goddess knows why. Nano Snippet:
Cam found it and brought them both to the counter. Tenaldi had him put some of the yolk cream into the chicken and retrieved a braid of onion and another of garlic out of the pantry. He set Cam to dicing an onion head and a couple cloves of garlic to add to the mixture while he got more herbs to flavor the chicken salad.

I clicked the link to 314 Condor Street to see why it was only $10,000. Because it's a hoarded-out piece of shit, that's why. The blurry pictures of the mess just make it that much more appealing, don't they?

On the other hand, the pocket mansion does have a beautiful garden. And Stairs of Death going up the hillside for you to kill yourself on. You need that gorgeous kitchen, though. Too bad about the roof.

It would almost be worth it to look up the deed histories of those McMansions and see who the heck built them. Maybe then you could figure out _why_ they built them in the ass-end of nowhere. (My guess is cheap land, so they could pour more money into obscene square footage that would never earn its price back on resale.)

You aren't that far behind on nano! I hit 20k yesterday and I am exactly on pace. You can do it!

OOOH! I LOVE that Condor street house!! That house needs someone to buy it & restore it to it's former grandeur! :D

I get you with the competition. I think that's part of why I was eleven days into the month before I drabbled something. XD It's partly being written out form October, but it's also there's no one to compete against. Yes, I was competing against myself, but I was also competing against those who were writing everyday to see if I could keep up with the pack.

LOVED the simple little paragraph about making chicken salad. People need to eat & it's nice to see those lil bits of day to day life amongst the "epic quest." :D

I ma glad your brother made amends.

I would not recommend buying a home in a dying/dead town.

These towns are a big reason why Trump won. The things is though, that manufacturing is not coming back, no matter what he claims.

That house on Condor is calling so many names to be loved and fixed and loved. I love those steps that appear to be leading to some weird temple up the hill that needs loved, too. And so much of that house...aiiigh.

I must have missed something with your brother but I'm making my way backward so I guess I will see it.
