I always feel intimidated by really long books, but I've read some good ones! Blackout/All Clear by Connie Willis was probably about 300 pages longer than it needed to be, but I did enjoy reading it.
ETA: part of my intimidation is I do most of my reading on my phone, via eBooks borrowed from the library. My library has a 14 day checkout period for ebooks, no renewals. So I get anxious over the page count, thinking I have to finish X pages per day to finish the book on time.
