original fiction

Hey guys, I finished a short story, sort of a tester for a novel I'm starting, just to see how people react to the characters and the ideas. I'm fixing up a tense problem right now (I always mess up the present tense) but if anyone wants to read it (it's speculative fiction, supernatural I guess) let me know. It's under 1,700 words which for me is a major rarity. It also means its in a very marketable word count range (go me). If I have your email I'll just mail it along. If i don't, just leave it for me. I'll screen the comments. Thanks

You'd be equally surprised if I told you _I_ had an under-2,000-word story. I tend to follow the word count guideline for Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine--anything under 8,000 words is just ducky.

I adore the Mugen icon. As for what he's looking so intent about, we're better off not knowing, I'm sure.

I am impressed too. Sadly in speculative fic even 1000 words can be too long. one of the newest pro markets out there wants them under 500 words. I don't even want to bother reading something that short

yeah I don't need to know what Mugen's thinking

I'll have to read something that short just to see what can be said in such a small space of words. I can't imagine having a plot, setting, and character development in 500 words. They must be after mood pieces and/or action sequences, damn the storytelling. On the other hand, hey, a market for drabbles!

i was thinking that when Yukio's story was stuck at 550 words
