Angel S 4 - Regrets
Watching his son sleep in a filthy alley like any other homeless person, Angel knew they had made a critical mistake, one that he hadn’t made alone. All of his friends were equally responsible. Rather than accept him as Stephen, they had tried to force him back into Angel’s mold for Connor. It was all too much. A new name, a new home with people who were trying to convince him a lifetime of learning was a lie, that it was Holtz who was evil and Angel really had become a good guy. Connor needed time to absorb the newness.
Giles – any time – Thinking Back
Tradition, honor, duty, his father had forced them down his throat. Why had he been so surprised when his son had spewed them back up and run off into the counterculture the elder Giles couldn’t understand? When Rupert thought back on it, his rebellion had been inevitable. It was something he had needed to do. He wouldn’t be the man he was now. Had he followed his father meekly, he’d have become one of those hidebound Watchers. He would have done things different with Buffy and chances are she would have followed tradition and found herself in an early grave.
Wesley – After the Billy episode – Becoming Father
Wesley studied his injuries taking nothing to alleviate the pain. All his life, Wesley had despised the force his father used to control his family. Anything that displeased Roger had been met with a sharp tongue and strong fists, all the way Wesley’s mother made excuses and covered the marks with make up. Wesley had promised never to be like that. He thought himself better than his father. That was before Billy awoken the monster within him, before Fred had to flee and hide just like Wesley’s mother had done so many times. He thought he’d die of intense shame.
