Holiday Parties and FMA

The holiday party went well. Way too much food. The curried butternut squash soup was wonderful. My spiced apricot couscous was a huge hit. (if you missed that recipe just ask, i'll give it to you). Sadly the Indian math prof didn't come (rather worried us since she helped arrange it). I missed having Indian goodies.

Wow, [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog said she was stunned. that is a good word for it.

I can hardly think of things to say.

Where was Hohenheim? Totally inside Father?

Okay really, poor ROy. He gets punished for what the homunculus did. That hardly seems fair that he pays the price when it's Pride who did the alchemy more or less. And what a price. Did not see that coming.

Pride, I would not count Roy out yet. All he has to do is using someone else for his eyes and I'm betting Izumi and Ed will be more than willing. Izumi is already right there with the comforting embrace.

Everyone else - WHY the hell were you just standing around watching Wrath and Pride? Were you afraid he'd kill Roy outright. Granted there wasn't much you COULD do other than delay them but since time IS a factor....

Alphonse, oh you dear sweet boy. What a sacrifice you made. And you may never get your body back from the sounds of it. You're right of course. Your body is completely useless for fighting and will be for some time, maybe forever depending on the amount of muscle damage its sustained.

who knew that me being friends with no less than three blind people would come in handy fictionwise provided Roy lives and none of this is fixed by the philopsher's stone.

Of course I ended up with two bunnies for the [livejournal.com profile] fma_fic_contest (so much for giving that up for a while) and since [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog already wrote one of them for me....goes to work fast on the other.

ETA - And WTF is that all about with Mei? If she and Scar can just bust through, why in the world was it necessary to have Roy open the Gate? That made no sense to me. Granted Roy's passage might have primed the pump for something else that HAD to go through the Gate but still. Also, I still just don't like Mei.

I'm sorry but I don't. I started out with three characters I instantly hated. Scar, Olivia (who I wanted to like) and Mei. Scar grew and changed and I learned to like him. Olivia became who I imagined she would be and I learned to really like her. Mei is still a two note Mary Sue. I still dislike her.

Al made me SO SAD. SO SAD, I tell you!

Oh poor Roy, I can feel his despair. I also admire the irony of the things each lost. Also if Mei could just break through to the bottom then why force Roy through the gate? It makes me feel twice as bad for him that he could have just gone through to the bottom of the building instead of the gate.

I have faith that if anyone gets a happy ending it will be Al - but he did worry me this chapter, and I think we're supposed to be worried. The suspense, it is terrible!

What happens to Roy is totally unfair, enemy and I were just saying the same thing over email - and in that regard it's very different to what happens to Ed and Al, Izumi and so on.

In closing, can I just point out that unlike the Blind Alchemist from the gaiden, Roy is still pretty. Silver lining, eh?

Argh. So curious to know what's going on. I found a place online that has up to Chapter 101. Guess I'll be doing some reading over the weekend and next week.

I honestly think that Roy being the only one of the Five who didn't voluntarily open the Gate to seek something he had no right to is going to make a difference to something, in the end. I really don't think mere contact with the Gate is what requires that something be taken from an alchemist.

He may not completely get his sight back, but I think there's got to be some significance in everything he's gone through to become a person who would not try human transmutation, as the others did.

Meanwhile, I do think that it's possible that Mei could get to the lower level because it no longer mattered, now that Roy had been dragged through the Gate. Either that, or none of them had reckoned on Scar's unusual alchemy and his ability to break through where nobody else had been able to. That might be it too.

I agree, though -- I don't like her either. Unless she does something spectacular in this situation, I don't see any real purpose for her character ever having been there. Which is why I think she'll probably be a real wild card and indeed do something spectacular now.

And finally -- after what's happened to Roy, for some reason I've suddenly gotten worried that Ed won't survive. After all, the whole series is named after him. If anyone's going to die, bringing everything to rights -- it's likely to be him. Gah.

I would love recipes for both things. They sound delicious.
