it's a matter of perspective

I was talking to the talented banner maker for [livejournal.com profile] fma_fic_contest about some of her recent banners. [livejournal.com profile] sky_dark said she made the banners based on what part of the story struck her most deeply. And that got me thinking (mostly because what struck a chord in her was something I barely thought about) about how we perceive stories. Take a good look at any review of Goodreads or a look at fandom meta and it's obvious we all take something different away from the stories. Sometimes you find people you're in total agreement with. Other times, you're left wondering 'did we watch/read' the same thing.

So it got me curious. What did people see in MY stories? To that end, find one of my stories that you liked and tell me what YOU thought was the main pain. What characters/scenes struck your chords? I'm curious.

why do i always take on too many [livejournal.com profile] springkink stories?

NCIS

I LOATHE the lawyer. I don't want her to be GIbbs's girl. And I HATE HATE HATE when the heroes allow the killer escape because they think it's 'justice.' Well, Gibbs MiL didn't kill her daughter/granddaughter's killers. Gibbs did that years ago. SHe killed someone who might have been in the same drug ring for the mere reason that she thinks it's justice. I'm not sure we have clear cut evidence he was somehow invovled in Shannon's death.

Our Cop Hero turning vigillante and/or condoning the vigillante is one of my most hated tropes in crime drama

However I have to say I did love Tony going nuts over Japanese movies and Tony's reaction to Arizona is MINE word for word.

Is it me or has McGee lost tons of weight?

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
McGee looks like he's lost weight.

Palmer's girlfriend is SO not what I wanted to see with him. How disappointing.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
i figured that's what she looked like because we had to OOOO break the mortician = weirdo mold

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, I see that - and morticians are salesmen, right? She'd have to look the part.

I'm just disappointed that she wasn't with Tony. She seemed more his type.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
and she does. You should see the ones Ed uses. they're all hotties.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ed's Deads? I guess we can't work there, then. Not that I want to do sales.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
he has the sincere looking young men to ply the widows

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so not me. :D

[identity profile] anguisel.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
That episode was really lacking. It was pretty obvious who had killed the guy. And Palmer's girlfriend made me think that he's got another Cylon on his hands.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
yeah you me and evil_little_dog had that thought about Palmer's girl

and this whole season has been off IMO

[identity profile] anguisel.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was really hoping for a twist and to find out Palmer is dating McGee's sister or an ex of Tony's. I guess we just have to see how it pans out.

I'm thinking they're doing a 'light season' before they throw something evil in the next season.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
that would have been a MUCH better twist (not that I care who Palmer is dating so much)

that's not a bad thought. My thought was they're concentrating on the new show and letting this one languish (much like ANgel when he tried to make Firefly a go)

[identity profile] sp23.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I did not love this episode of NCIS. While I was totally behind Gibbs taking out the bad guys way back when, this just stunk of allowing a psycho woman to run free. What happens the next time she feels the need the "right a wrong"? And Leon went along with it! The fuck?!!!! So not only did the guilty woman go free, but they just conspired to send a man to prison who may deserve to go for drug smuggling, but DID NOT COMMIT THIS MURDER! And are Ducky and Abby going to go on the stand and lie under oath to complete the conspiracy of protecting the true killer?

Bad writing is very, very bad.

McGee is very svelte now. I don't know how that happened.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
i wasn't certain if he was going down for murder or just the drug dealing. If they plan on letting him take the rap for murder too...yeah HOW do you justify that. THis was plain awful and unbelievable writing.

McGee is looking good

[identity profile] sp23.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it sure sounded to me like they were going to let him take the rap. They were talking about how he had the same kind of gun and a motive, blah, blah, blah. As you say, awful and unbelievable writing.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah that was the truly disturbing part of it all

Most recently, Temple grabbed me: his spirit, his neediness, the way he seems to be hurting, but hides it with bratty behavior and silliness. I really want to read more about him.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm really glad you liked Temple. He wasn't supposed to steal the show. He was just supposed to be the playboy. Go figure

*Temple grins widely*

And look at that, I just RP'd Temple. XD I love him?

Moving on, I just wanted to let you know that I received the first two discs of Darker than Black today and am excited to watch it.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha apparently Temple's easy to like

oh good. i hope you enjoy it and don't sit there thinknig huh...COM's nuts

[identity profile] randomcheeses.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's not just you. McGee is looking fine!

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, yes he is

[identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I thought McGee has lost a boatload of weight, myself. His neck was sticking out of his collar like a stick.

That part of Arizona wouldn't be THAT hot this time of year (assuming this is set sort of "now")... *g*

ETA: Oh, and yeah, not the best idea of Gibbs, but he's always had a very, very, VERY tender spot where that whole event has been concerned. What was strange was Leon going along with him... (Not to mention all the forensic evidence, etc.)

And your writing? I love your characters -- your dialogue and character interaction is amazing, and you plot like crazy. Sometimes your prose is a little stilted, but sometimes I'm not sure if that's not just a matter of style, because I find I get used to it when I read your work. No matter, it's always extremely compelling.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
yes that stick-neck definitely caght my eye. He's looking good.

haha, true. It does cool off in AZ but that was definitely me in Tucson in Oct. OMG it's HOT. Why is it so HOT? I'm melting. Dry heat my ass. It's still HEAT

yes I could see Gibbs having a tender spot for his MiL. However, like you pointed out Leon and the others? They could all lose jobs/go to jail if expected to falsify evidence. i would have been more impressed ifLeon had reprimanded Gibbs and then made it clear they were prosecuting for the drug charges only (since it really sounded like the frame up might continue)

Thank you very much. I'm so glad you l iked my stuff. I'll have to look at the stilted side of it. It's very possible it's just bad on my part as oppose to style (that should be easy to fix though, one hopes)

so yay to compelling

[identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot deny it's hot. Usually well into October.

But it doesn't GET that hot until April or May. Right now the hottest it's been has been 76 (it's 73 today), and honestly, is there anyone who calls 76 "hot"?

(It's actually cooler in Nogales since the altitude is higher; it was 67 there today, and the low tonight is supposed to be 37.)

If television writers are going to malign my state, they should do it right! *g*

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
hahah ME. I would like it to never be above 72. I begin to whine at 75. I'm useless by 80.

but yes you should at least have a clue as to what you're writing about

[identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
My blood is terribly thin. I have a pathetic comfort range, though -- under 75 it's "freezing" and above 90 it's "broiling." I'm never happy. *g*

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha, you would not want to be in my house. it's never above 70 in it
