I see where Ms. Parker is coming from, but - no way. Anybody who'd have prevented me from getting to know my crazy, beloved own characters and worls, and all the awesome time I've spent with them, would find themselves haunted by my furiously screeching ghost for all eternity! No matter the frustrations, disappointments and other unpleasant side effects of having people and worls live in my head, I'd never exchange that for anything!!! *g*

I already reported in for yesterday, but added about 500 words of fic in the evening, so go me! At least finished the month with some proper fic writing. ;op

I can barely remember a time when I didn't write

This. My earliest clear memories are of me creating stories in my head, starting at age 4 or 5 - the memories; the stories might have started earlier. Either a continuing saga of a tiny, invisible girl going with me everywhere, and I was mentally narrating what happened to her on her adventures a.k.a. the paths she was walking and climbing and jumpinig alongside my own walk (fences, low walls, front yards, crossing a street, or whatever was alongside the fields and forest paths on the family walks and hikes) or when I was outside in our garden, playing or helping. Describing her enounters with strange big monsters (cats and dogs on the way, or even slugs and snails and such), going bathing in or rowing over small lakes (puddles) and so on. When I was playing with things like Legos, building bricks or Playmobil the main part of the play was constructing the background/scenery/stage for a story focusing on either the plastic animals I played a lot with, or some of the figurines, but they had names, backgrounds, relationships, histories - it took me ages to figure out some of these.
I used to believe this was just the normal way a child was experiencing the world and playing with toys, and only learned much later that what I did went quite beyond that with a lot of story construction involved, and really was an early form of writing.
My stories only happened in my head for a few years even after I learned to write, and I only started to write something down when my writing speed could keep up somewhat with my mind. ;op
I was also a shy and introvert child and struggled socially, but when hanging out with the neighbour's kids we always started those big roleplay games following a story of my making.

That is very very cool really. I don't remember stories in my head that young BUT like you, when I did play with the neighbor kids we often played games I made up including I suppose my first real attempt at fanfic playing Lost in Space in our tree hut (trust me it was not a house)

I was ten when I wrote my first fanfic after seeing Star Wars in the theater (so old...) and later that year my teacher had us write stories and he liked mine so much it was tacked up in the hallway for all to read
