curious

How dependent we can get on things. Earthlink crapped out on me today and I was a puddle of babbling goo. And i really needed the break since I'm making up exams and needed to unwind. Pouts. So I called [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog and we were both laughing so hard at MXC we were less talking on the phone than pointing and giggling at the TV.

Been reading a lot of shonen-ai manga lately, (and just my luck I'm at the library surrounded by my manga picks, which for those who don't know, shonen-ai are male homosexual comic when one of teh math profs from my school pops over to my table. Head desk). Curiously I've been considering writing a slash pairing for the first time ever. And I do mean ever. Mostly I've always eschewed it, especially when I know the actors and/or creators are against the changing of sexual preferences for their creations. Even when I know the creator doesn't much care (like Joss for instance) mostly I've not seen very convincing cases being made for a lot of the pairings I've seen. So this sudden urge, for the first time in 20 + years of writing fanfic (I've written homosexual characters in my original fic since high school so that's no big for me) is surprising.

Though I was highly amused reading the conclusion of "Ghost", one of the shonen-ai which concluded with the two boys getting together and ends with them fighting who's going to be the bottom and my first thought was Angel/Spike. This is one of the ways slash often fails to grab me, is the total ignoring of personality types. Two highly dominant tops usually don't work. Ah well, the little things that amuse me.

and speaking of amusing, back to thinking of my exams. Ah, the smell of fear in the morning, nothing like it. Whee, I've found a job that plugs into that slightly sadistic part of my personality.

really i think that it has a lot to do with fantasies as opposed to realistic expectations. here's a little article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shonen-ai

Personally what I like about it, is that inspite of the usually totally unreal ways of bringing the lovers together (Fake's pretty good at it, the rest are out there), is the idea that love is love. It doesn't matter with whom you find it. It's a worthy cause and worth fighting for. often those ideas come across strongly in some of these manga especially when often there would be resistance to accepting homosexual love

I suppose, but love is also about reproduceing (this is just my oppinion, please don't kill me). The whole reason marrage was invented was that so to people who loved eachother very much could raise children in a supportive family enviroment.

and an opinion you're entitled too. But no, in reality, love has zero to do with reproduction. That is a biological imperative to ensure the species. In fact the very idea of a solitary lover in marriage goes against the whole biology of the act. We are hard wired to be non-monogamous, which probably explains why so often we cheat. Love is an emotional response that can, and often does, have little or nothing to do with reproduction. I have been in love with various people over the years, many where sex never even entered the equation because it wasn't the important thing

Now that's where you and I disagree. I believe that love has much to do with reproduction, and studies show when a child is raised in a stable loveing two parent house hold they just tend to turn out better.

and you can get that stability regardless of the sex of the parents raising them. Also proven by studies

Now that's very interesting, what studies told you this, can you give me a link?
