Thankful for Speed bumps
Still couldn't find the flash drive, looked in the car again when I loaded it to go to the laundromat, nothing. But as I cross the street and see the speed bumps I thought 'if it's between the center console and the seat I'll never get my hand between there.' So I hit the speed bumps hard. Sure enough it jarred the flashdrive out from that exact spot. I have it back and I am THANKFUL.
Before I hit fannish 50 and do my recs, let's talk something terrible happening in fandom again. The last time I talked about this it was Laura Bailey and a few other critical role actors getting death threats (in her case because she was a VA for a villain and others because they had a critical fail and their characters died) and because of Valentino cosplayers being physically attacked. Now we have Joel Perez, the voice actor for Valentino getting death threats for sharing Valentino/Angel art and again for playing a villain
I have no idea WHY fans in the 2020s can't fucking separate acting from reality but if you want stories with tension and bad guys SOME ONE has to play the baddie. That doesn't mean they're bad or they support the shit their characters do. To all the fans out there, take this from someone who's been in fandoms for 40+ years, being awful to actors who play villains does NOT make you a hero. It's cruel. As Joel said, it's performative. if you feel that strongly about protecting sexual abuse victims go out there and do something real, not harassing fictional characters and the actors that bring them to life.
What do these fans want? The roles to be voiced by real serial killers? AI actors? That latter is happening fast enough. Pretty soon with the way fans are threatening the lives (and in Laura's case the life of her infant son) of the actors, they'll be willing to let the computers voice them and we all lose.
In happier fannish news but I'll put it under a cut
And boy was that a bummer of an episode. Not that it was bad. Far from it but it was depressing AF and that was so not what I needed right now. It goes A LONG way in redeeming both Blitzo and Stolas as characters. They are deeply flawed men but both were willing to sacrifice their lives to save the people they loved.
It gives us a new power dynamic with Stolas stripped of his powers for a century (pissing off the true mastermind, his brother in law). Now we have a new goal: Having Stella and her brother being exposed for the monsters they are. Poor Octavia, who is the innocent victim in all of this. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this. Hopefully she'll not come to hate her father.
On the other hand we have more of that shaky world building that plagues both Helluva Boss and Hazbin. We learn that Lucifer IS NOT the king of all of hell, not really. Satan ruled there ' before the golden angel fell' so he's the one responsible for imps etc. We still don't know where the deadly sins came from or the goetia. Was Satan forced to serve Lucifer? Co-rulers? We see the empty throne for Lucifer and Satan being in charge (most likely because Amazon owns Hazbin and doesn't allow Helluva Boss to use him.) I do wish the worldbuilding felt less haphazard. If nothing else we have a huge question if hell/satan was there before Lucifer then why did Adam, his exorcist and the seraphim only target the pride ring and the sinners. To me it suggests that only the sinner could storm heaven. Things I think too much about...
Here's my story for the week (only on AO3 at the moment as I forgot to put this on this flashdrive...)

Tim shook his head. “No, but I’m more about ghost stories. Demons freak me out.”
Grace mentally scratched him off their list. Al had brought them to this point rather masterfully and she was glad of it. She turned her attention to Nick as he answered Al’s question.
“I have a few stories but like Tim I want to give demons a wide berth, just in case they really are real. There is this weirdo on campus though. Ah man, what was that dweeb’s name?” Nick tapped his chin. “Give me a minute, it’ll come to me. You might have seen him. He always has this handcuff on one wrist, just the one cuff, and he has long dark hair, wears an Indiana Jones hat.”
Dan groaned and slung his hair back, a pained expression on his face. “Robert.”
Nick flung his hand out. “That’s it! Yeah, he came to one of our paranormal investigations and that was all he could talk about, summoning demons by accident with what we were doing.”
50661 / 50000 words. 101% done!

Well ...
It's not just fans, it's everywhere. People are generally losing the ability to distinguish between what is real and what is not real. Certainly it started in mundania, but as mundania has overtaken fandom, it spread there too. >_<
Some of the more garish examples come from schools with intolerance policies. So for instance, a child suspended because his mother put a plastic knife in his lunchbox, or another for biting a piece of bread into the shape of a gun. The adults were unable to distinguish between a genuine weapon that was a threat and things that were not.
Of course, it doesn't help that some people are spewing lies, distorting the news, trying to pretend that climate change isn't happening, etc. And they've chosen a leader who can't keep his story straight for 5 fucking minutes.
Eh, evolution will sort it all out eventually, no matter how many people disbelieve it.
Re: Well ...
AI deep fakes are only going to make it worse.
It's just insane to me how dangerous a lot of these fans feel. All these actors will be in Columbus next weekend (me too) and I fear for a few of them
