I did get to go to Bacon Jam today, that new restaurant. Had a honey chili crisp bacon grilled cheese with a bit of soup. It was good, real good. The latte was less exciting.


Let's get to the fannish stuff and since SDCC is going on there's plenty but before that I could use some help. It’s also written for the allbingo prompt of midnight kiss as well as the lyrical titles album challenge 2025 .I’m using the Footloose album and the song this time is Let's Hear It for the Boy by Deniece Williams.

Before I get into it, just wanted to say I made it back to Pittsburgh for the rest of the summer (in theory)

For July I have two open calls I want to write stories for. And I have two wipbigbang stories I must finish and I do need to work on my fandomtrumpshate story. In the meantime I'm working on some story that bit me yesterday. In fact on the 4 hour trip today five stories were trying to take dominance in my brain as I drove.

My other goals are to see some of the sites I've been trying to get to for years. It doesn't look good. Sigh. No one cares what my work goals are (including me if I'm honest)

I DO have something I'm proud of. Two somethings that I spent most of June working on. Both are from the Hazbin Hotel fandom (so mind the tags, this is the most violent musical animated comedy ever I swear)

Dandelions This is my unconventionalcourtship story. I am very proud of how this one turned out and have gotten some nice comments about.


The Power Play series is something I created for the getyourwordsout Yahtzee challenge. I am a little disappointed at how much this is flying under the radar. That said, I think it's a very good one that I enjoyed doing.



I'm going to break the book report into two days because I'm hot, tired and cranky. (and that story wants me to get back to it)

What I Just Finished Reading:

Dark Entry - a short suspense/horror novel I got last year, not bad but predictable

Verses for the Dead - a pendergast novel from Preston & Childe. enjoyed it but the ending was too hollywood

Chasing Evil - this is written by an FBI agent (ex) and his professional relationship with psychic John Edward (wish there had been chapters by John too)



What I am Currently Reading:

Kill You Twice - a pretty graphic (i don't mind) police procedural but it's a tad soap opera for me

I Need You To Read This - an arc of an advice columnist trying to solve the murder of the woman she's replacing. It has a neat cover, sleek red with the title as keyboard keys but they're tactile.

War Child - a Deep Space Nine Novel

Pantomine - an LGBT (intersexed main character) fantasy

My younger cousins are part managers of a new restaurant in our area and mom and I went there for lunch. (It was good) and they gave me a birthday card with a gift card (for some online liquor shop fine wine and good spirits) we don't do gifts so I was surprised. Here's me googling can you mail booze to OH (you cannot to PA)

I messed up. I thought yesterday was my posting day on unconventionalcourtship but I looked a few days ago and I SWORE it said the 21st. Guess what. It was yesterday. SIGH. I posted chapter one now. You can find it here. I'm pretty proud of this one.

Summary: Even though Angel is still under Valentino’s thumb, he has secretly signed on as Charlie Morningstar’s man, a protector, a faithful friend, whatever she needs and what she needs now is his help to find out who is stalking her (even if she thinks she can handle it herself)
Husker is more concerned with his casinos and clubs and his wild parties than he is with whatever reason Valentino wants him to take his best porn star to bed. He assumes Valentino is trying to get him in his debt but Husker prefers his lovers to have some brains, something - if the rumors are true – Angel Dust is lacking. But when he is being framed for trying to kill the Princess of Hell, Husker throws his lot in with Angel and the rest of Charlie’s people to clear his name.

But I'm out of time. Ah well, what can you do? Not get sicker, that's what. I thought I was just tired this morning. In fact, I did everything I wanted/needed to do in Jackson, taking an hour for myself at the coffee shop to write (though I felt a little guilty because I have SO MUCH cleaning yet to do).

And it would have been fine except by the time I got home (at 4pm omg) I got exhausted and now my throat is sore. Since the beginning of the year, I keep having these bouts, a sore throat, I blast the hell out if with nasal saline/saline gargles and I'm fine the next day. Here's hoping that continues. I do not want to go to my conference sick especially if I'm contagious (and I'd rather be there at the hotel than at home with my aged parents)

I did get a lot cleaned up but not enough. I can at best run some cleaning rags over the kitchen tomorrow before I have to leave. Like I said, I planned for the coffee shop hour but not the hour where I was too exhausted to move. Ah well, nothing I can do about it.

At least I got more done on one of my wipbigbang's I'm trying to do two. I am embarrassed I haven't finished an Owl House story from 2 years ago. But naturally that's not what I've been doing. I'm working on the Hazbin story for a series no one but me cares about. Snort.

It's music monday. I'm doing the alphabet again and for my part only sharing songs from the last 5 years. You can toss in whatever you'd like. Letter G is up and if I'm honest I half assed this and there aren't that many

I had my oncology appointment today. Everything is good. They asked are you having any pain. Yes. In the area we're concerned with? Yes but I think it's a hernia. Okay I KNOW it's a hernia and it tore more recently and it's very noticeable now. Last night it kept me awake. She took one look and said where do you want to go for your CT scan. That's definitely a hernia.

Went to the comic book store and mentioned I'm probably not going to be back next week for free comic book day (mostly because lately they're not a complete short story. It's like 4 pages of comic that you have to buy something to finish and 8 pages of ads for most of them) and she tried to lure me back with 'We're having a Renn fest on the river too. OMG, yes please however there are no less than 8 other festivals next weekend and I realize they're all outdoors except for the Ohioana book fest and after me saying I wasn't going to it if it rains I will.

When I was at herdcon last month I talked to student DJS and took their card. Well I couldn't get 88.1 here but since I was on Marshall's campus...I was expecting alt rock. from 1-4 (I was listening off and on) it was 30s-40s Jazz and modern jazz (delight!!) and when I got in the car to come home there was some song (hip hop) talking about how he'll hit it until he can't fuck her anymore and had multiple lyrics talking about how she wipes from ass to cunt and how he likes her grimy and I'm like OMFG why? also I didn't think you could air lyrics like that (maybe college rules are different) three songs later it was a gospel song. My gears were stripped.

I got some yummy Italian goodies at Home Goods including preserved lemons. I've used it before but that was not a whole lemon which is what it would be if I made these (I've been thinking about it. It's a matter of space and me not having any)

Also I did a bad (and I blame JK who told me about them) I got a cotton candy donut from Dunkin' Donuts.

I came home to all kinds of Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss news and I'm putting some of it here for listening to later (as I am tired)

Content warning- This mentions some potentially upsetting/triggering historical references to the Alien Registration Act (no wonders why this is on my mind now). This wasn’t the story I set out to write (this was supposed to be a spicy Huskerdust but the six words took me down this path. I’ll write spicy another day) Everything Angel says here happened during WWII. What happened to the Italians has been mentioned less in the history books than what happened to the Japanese Americans (probably because it wasn’t quite as horrible. If you want to know more you can read this Smithsonian article. I still have my grandparents’ alien registration paperwork. I hold it and can imagine their fear and emotional trauma.

I was one day late with my talk for hitting women's history month but my talk went well.

No one knew it but I dressed up in my 1890s walking dress complete with petticoat pretenders, a corset, my gladstone bag and hat I made (because restrictive clothing being a reason women can't be doctors was in my speech) and I strolled in expecting 4 students I bribed with extra credit and my science coworkers.

Instead I walked in and the place is packed! Nursing is there. Other faculty are there. My friend who retired drove all the way from 45 miles away to be there. Another retired friend canceled an appointment to come (I expected him), my friend (one of those nano ones I mentioned) and her daughter showed up all the way from Marietta (about 90 miles), two former students showed up and there were students I didn't even know there (I assume someone else bribed them).

I did it in a little over an hour (with a few political jabs I'm SURE my family will bitch about when they get the link but they were earned). I got no questions but so much applause.

My friend and her daughter and I went to Bob Evans for dinner (my treat because they came all that way and brought me a cannolo because they know how to make my Italian heart sing) We haven't seen each other in a while, talked about 2 hours (sorry poor Waitress)

I will fandom Tuesday tomorrow. Instead have a happy birthday story for Angel Dust

But getting up before the sun sucked. We had some really good projects. However I was sad to see it was mostly 6-7th graders. We didn't have any high schoolers like we usually do and that's down to the fact that in OH 6-7th grades have to do a science project and then it's never again. They can graduate without much science. It's so sad and it's impacting my university badly, especially my nurses.

I took a nap when I got home which is unusual for me and I felt all the worse for it (as per usual)

I sat down to work on my sabbatical presentation. The power went out. sigh. It did come back soon enough and I'm up to about 40 slides and there is no way I can cover all the women I want to and do them justice.
