Okay so it's not really a thing in America and mostly all we did today was lie about watching British mysteries and being thankful no one else was in the house!

I also wrote a lot and washed clothes. Put my Christmas photos in a file. Probably will share them with you tomorrow.

Here's the story I wrote

Title: There'll Be a Hot Time in Old Town Tonight

Summary: Angel is hosting his first Sinsmas party as an overlord. He wants to ease his nerves about it with a dinner for friends but with rival overlords and scrapping turf war wannabes, will his party be a success or a dismal failure?

Rating: teen and up

Author Note - Written for spikesgirl58’s six words challenge. The words were Form, Illness, Session, Government, Lunch,& Relief and for lyrical bingo for the prompt of Pre-1900 song. I chose There'll Be a Hot Time in Old Town Tonight by Bessie Smith.

I also wrote this a holiday gift for my friend JK. It was meant to be Pentious centric. Angel was having none of it. It’s part of my Angel overlord AU. It’s a stand alone (but feel free to read the rest of the series if you want) All you need to know is Valentino is dead (Angel killed him) and Angel’s taken over Val’s empire with the help of his brother. The couple’s outfit Angel and Husker are wearing at the party (not to mention their dance moves) were inspired by Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, especially this dance

Here's my day

1. Call vascular surgeon because no signs of my blood thinners. His nurse says Oh, your script was rejected. How did that happen? she asks herself

Me- Why did no one CALL me and tell me this?

Oh, I'm not sure. I'll make sure the doctor signs this today. If he did I don't think it was sent.

2. CVS after specifically being told not to fill my insulin filled my insulin. Now they'll have to put it back.

3. Been tracking my adagio tea order. It left NJ made it to Pittsburgh which sent it back to where it started in NJ. Made it to Pitt again. Wed they put up a can't deliver to that location. Meanwhile I have 2 boxes from Adagio in my bedroom proving they can. Go to the post office and the package it there and the substitute postmaster didn't put the delivery notice in the box. At least it was there

wrote a story that I think is really good but will probably get little notice. Ah well. I'm proud of it regardless

Summary: Angel has gone back to Valentino because what choice does he have? That’s what he tells himself. That’s the only thing that will keep his friends safe. Being constantly high is his only solace but even drugs can only do so much. How long before he breaks?

I had such high expectations of getting the cards out, the gifts, grading all the things etc. etc. I should have realized it was no attainable.

I need to keep better records over the year as I tend to buy gifts at cons and festivals and now there is way too much and I got so flustered I left my house to reset at the coffee shop. The post office was fucking nuts because they have ONE person worker (and he's explaining how he is the only one because of the stupid) There is another woman but all she did was ask are you picking up or dropping off. No idea why she couldn't work the other register.

Also a monster storm is coming so like everyone else I go to the store. I get a rotissiere chicken because if I DO lose power I have a whole chicken to pick at in the cold. (bread and peanut butter too) CVS and the dollar store was just as bad and then the bank tells me they no longer have a coin counter. What am I going to do with all these coins? Sigh.

It took until 7 pm to get all the grades done except my two research students (tomorrow's worry) I am fielding are you going to round that up? Yes I am but your 70.2 isn't rounding to a fucking 73%. Sorry, you didn't do nearly well enough to pass.

I also managed to aspirate my lunch and have been coughing up crap off and on for hours since my lungs are pissed at me.

I did however managed to avoid spoilers for The Amazing Digital Circus's episode 7 drop and got to see the episode. More about that maybe on Tuesday.

Didn't really shop unless you count the liquor store (I do). My friend MKF wanted to meet up at Tim Horton's in Athens. We tried to recapture the old Nano energy this year. No one showed up us two but that's okay. We're enough. We're planning to try again in Feb (though that might have to be Saturday afternoons or online). We actually spend more time talking than writing but ah well.

My throat and tooth still hurt. Fun times but I picked up a Skeletonwitch pizza in Athens and taunted my mother with it (I need to buy her one on my way home)

But here's the weird thing. As I left today my landlord's truck was out there with a trailer holding a washing machine...wait? You are putting machines IN our apartment. I DO NOT have one. Now I need to make another phone call. I REALLY need to get my shit together tomorrow and Sunday and clean up this place so I can get him in here.

Also Hazbin Hotel is now officially my most spendy fandom since the Buffyverse (which still wears the trading money for magic beans crown) It needs to have less cool merch.

All Husk knows he’s never going to give Angel up and desert him.

Summary: Angel is ready to help his new lover, one of hell’s up and coming overlords grab more territory. But who walks into Valentino’s would-be new territory but someone Angel had been waiting for for decades. So, his brother had finally died.

Notes:This is set in the late 1970s which is currently, from the old notes up on fandom wiki, the time period in which both Valentino and Arackniss died. So I gave hell that same 70s vibe and this would be when Valentino is just building his empire and what Angel’s role is in it. And his first meeting with his brother after Arackniss died. I am sticking with Giovanni for Arackniss’ living years name as the old notes have him as a Jonathan.

Content warning – Angel’s family is homophobic so there are references to that along with time period appropriate history for Angel’s living years in the 1930s and 40s.

So all I did was go to the writers group meeting in Athens to relax and that helped until my sugar decided you know what would be fun? Let's hit 500 and now go into freefall. So much was going on today I felt it deserved it's own separate post.

I was going to share pictures that have been on my mind of my great grand mothers but for the life of me I can't remember what file folder they're in and it's been too busy of a day to find it.

Speaking of which, sorry I owe lots of comments. I am just slammed. I will get to them. Promise.

Last night

ysabetwordsmith shared an article on New study: Viewing art in galleries 'immediately' reduces cortisol levels, boosts health which I found fascinating and I wonder what else art can do. With that in mind I did go to the Witch Walk art trail in Athens tonight (I was on the fence) Here is the facebook event post

Sounded fun. and it was...but would have been better if I didn't have to drive an hour to get there because it wasn't quite as expected. The Dairy Barn is open with free snacks, pizza and hot apple cider for us (the Dairy barn is now the arts center) and they had environmental booths set up and tons of stuff for the kids. There was an accordion player and an art scavenger hunt.

And Ora Anderson Trail turns out to be a one mile trail...up a hillside...through the wetlands...in the dark. Lit by luminieres. So being the I can do this person I am, I grab my cane and up I go. In the dark. (and OMG people why do so many of you need flash lights half blinding me. I can tell who has never been in the woods in the dark before).

I was expecting a different kind of art. It was basically upcycled stuff (tires, other detritus) turned into 'scary things' It was basically a horror trail with no one popping out at you. At the top of the hill was a theater, a puppet show on offer (sort of the big puppets you kinda wear) Well puppets are at least part of the Sicilian day of the dead (or so I read. I am not Sicilian) Also I hate puppets. I turned around and went back and that's when things got weird

I'm not more than a few yards from Puppet central when I feel someone behind me. Not surprising it's well attended but it's just me and a young man in all black with the barista hipster look going on, short beard, slightly longer hair. I invite him to go around me as I am slow with a cane going downhill in the dark. He does but around the next bend he is behind me again. And again. And when invited he doesn't go around me. When I can finally see the lights of the dairy barn, he isn't there. But I have to go through one more dark woods spot and there he is behind me again. It was strange (I feel a horror story coming on)

So last night (after a lunch of pancakes and apples and pizza for dinner) I was feeling peckish at midnight. I hate eating late but I had a few tablespoons of peanut butter. 20 minutes later my dexcom alarms. My sugar is 68 and falling. I go get more sugar pills. 20 minutes after that it's now 55. If I can't get my sugar up now, I better get to calling 911. So more peanut butter (with some hot dogs after to stabilize things with protein) and more sugar pills. I'm also in the fridge drinking maple syrup like it's beer. It took until 2 AM to get it back up to 110 and I felt safe trying to sleep.

I finished really cleaning out that fridge so I can call to get it replaced (once I have a weekend/thursday free) What the hell happened to it? It's like 3-5 years old. It looks like it's 30. The freezer has a crack, the seal is a degenerated ripped mess. I took out the crispers and there are SIX cracks in the floor of the fridge. the one shelf's bracket crumbles as I clean it. The door racks are cracked. I think this thing had some manufacturing issue.

Quite a few of my coworkers have October birthdays so we always go out to dinner to celebrate them. Went to Arch and Eddie's for the first time in a year. Definitely a different app menu from Sixth Sense (Like I said, two different owners now) Also something new, two fried chicken sliders with siracha sauce, broccoli slaw and general Tso's sauce. REALLY damn good actually. As was the raspberry whip (whipped cream vodka, pineapple juice and raspberry puree.

We went from that to Michael's for ice cream parfaits, I had the apple cider with marshmallow and caramel sauce.

But still...I wish this was last night so I could have gone on the ghost walk. ah well. it was still fun.

Okay I forgot I had a ghost thing today so you'll get the history stuff tomorrow.

As for the ghost thing, I went with TH to the Bossard Library for Stories of Ohio's Haunted Places. It was entertaining but not what I was hoping for. I was expecting paranormal investigation. I got stories instead. He was in his 70s and as he told the stories he'd reveal an antique that somehow linked into the story. So for me it sort of made them feel more like campfire stories than real but some I know of from other places like the Gray Lady of Camp Chase Cemetery in Columbus.

ALso he was a bit of a show man. Each item did a little 'haunted item' thing so he has some stage magic training. Over all he was fun.

Title: Can't Ever Keep From Falling Apart at the Seams

Summary: Angel has been pushed one step too far by Valentino’s abuse and comes undone. Luckily Husk is there to help him pick up the pieces only he’s not sure if his advice is helping.

That's not too much to ask is it? Apparently so. I already had to drive around the horn this morning because I forgot they were setting up for this coming week's Apple Festival (how the fuck is half of Sept already gone?)

I get home to my defrosting fridge. I'm trying it again. Maybe I turned it on before it dried out last time and it refroze. I got two of the fridge shelves cleaned and dried and one of the things I saw on YT tutorials was the bottom vents might be blocked causing the fridge part to heat up. Okay fine. So I'm cleaning them, going good but since my fridge is jammed in a corner and the door can't even open fully, my shoulder is against the door.

The cheap ass plastic shelf guard comes off and a bottle of chili crisp oil hits ground, shatters and everything is covered in red oil. Is my foot cut? I dunno. It hurts but is it cut or is the fucking chili oil giving me chemical burns? Don't see blood. Manage to clean up my foot...so I thought as I hobble to the shower to clean it well and neutralize the caustic oil. Had it between my toes, didn't know and now there are orange oil footprints on this old shit carpet (got them out with resolve).

Takes me at least 30 minutes to clean up oil. Everything in that fridge is a loss. Even the spreadable butter is green. That's how hot the inside is. Sigh. I still have jars I'm going to rinse and toss sitting on the floor because now it's 730 at night and I need to get this over with. I don't think it's getting cold but it's early days. I do think I'll need to replace it and I am unhappy. SO unhappy. Like I have time to clean and move everything. Like I have a PLACE to move it to. I guess I'll get more plastic totes and put it on the porch, you know the one that's collapsing? sigh.

Finally seeing the second Aquaman movie. Did the same person also write the second Black Panther movie. They seem about 70% the same and that is not a compliment.

Today I call the Grove City office for my surgeon because I'm less annoyed at them because I was at fault for some of that too. It was a mix up. And she goes...well I'm not sure why Chillicothe told you to make a Thursday appt. He does surgery thur/fri So now I'm furious because I suspect that there never WAS a real appt yesterday. I think someone fucked up and all they needed to do was lie to me and say we need to reschedule.

Now I'm going on the 30th and I have to cut a lab in half to get up there for a 4 pm appt. I'm also thinking of calling Cabell on Monday to see if I can get into the ENT surgeon quickly. Highly doubtful but it's worth a call.

I dump off my art today and the new art person loves the one with bones. After I get to my office I realize....I did NOT take pictures of either art project. Go Dana Go.

I get home and I call my insurance after I check my HSA and my EOBs about Aspen Dental which I want to burn down. Yes paid them 180$ but my EOB says I only owed 40 so yes they did owe me back 140 some. So now they say I owed around 170 keeping my money and asking for 25$ more.

I poke around my insurance and as far as I can tell it should have been covered 100%. I call my insurance and it's too soon to tell but she agreed, I shouldn't have owed ANYTHING. So I will be watching every EOB for next few weeks. I'm so angry at them.

Nothing exciting happened today (other than apple butter lattes, me trying to get admin pissed at me and panic attacks) so have something you've been asking for. My candy recs

So the Hershey Haul....I haven't eaten it all yet because there's only so much candy a diabetic should eat (none) but here are my thoughts

Chocolate Lava Peanut Butter cups - so it's supposed to have ooey gooey chocolate lava. Bag #1 (since PB cups are my favorites) Dad got one and I got one that oozed into the packaging. The rest were just normal cups with super soft centers making it hard to get it out of its paper panties. Bag two had a thin layer of what might be chocolate lava, barely noticeable.

Verdict - get normal ones. they're cheaper than this rip off

Hazelnut kisses - I'm still not a fan of nuts in chocolate even if I like the nuts

Brownie Bites Kisses - tasted like brownies. Pretty good

Pumpkin Spice Latte treasure nugget - tastes like its name. wee bit artificial but not bad

Caramel Machiatto latte treasure nugget - um...no caramel, no coffee, just tastes like milk chocolate which is nice enough but this is one of the Hershey store only special chocolates so I wanted more flavor, more specialness

Cafe Espresso treasure nugget - strong coffee taste, yummy (another special)

special bars, salty caramel and strawberry creme. I should have looked closer. They're both white chocolate. I'm not a fan of white chocolate. That said. Salty caramel tasted more like coconut (looked like toasted coconut) good but not quite caramel. Strawberry creme tastes like strawberry quick.

Caramel special nuggets, large (expensive as fuck compared to the rest), bigger about two inch cubes, very good caramel, gooey.

I still have more to try.

lurkingsky‬ on Bluesky who was running a DTYIS for this fantastic picture of Husk right here. I’m no artist but this picture told me a story so I wrote it (and seriously, go check out that great picture of Husk!)
This is set some time before Husk lost it all so probably a handful of years before Charlie’s plans for the hotel. And there will be a few alterations to how Texas hold ‘em is played (you’ll see what I mean)

It's been a loooong day of multiple lab sections and then driving 2 hours. It's a very easy drive, literally three turns and two of them are in Dayton. This hotel is in a huge mall that sprawls for about four lights and on both sides of the road but it means I have plenty of food around me. I opted for the Rusty Bucket which sees to be a chain in SW Ohio (I've been to the one in Cincinnati) their cold brew martini was amazing, best part of the meal.

I almost went to the Blue Crab Juicy seafood bar but I wasn't sure about it (and it's right next door to Lust, the strip club which is probably directly behind this hotel. Oh geeze. Well it's not like I didn't live behind one for years) I looked it up. Maybe tomorrow...

This room is weird. Maybe wheelchair accessible? Doesn't say it (but at least it's on the ground floor) the bed is orientated not to the tv but to the window with your head to the door. I thought maybe it would be hard to get a wheelchair around the room if it was the normal way. Nice room though with a shower no tub. I appreciate that.

I woke up and spent the morning watching someone comment to every chapter of a couple of my Angel and Arackniss stories, trying to get them all in before they had to leave to get their kids. Now that is a great compliment and I was so pleased. Also that little Prodigal Son story I posted got comments out the wahzoo. I think the difference there is the age of the fans (older for Pson, younger for HH and TOH)

Mom and Dad bought a new SUV today (haven't seen it yet) and I rented myself a SUV to go to Gettysburg on Thursday. My CR-V has 106K on it and I decided not to run it up even more. It was worth a few hundred bucks to not crap out on the highway. (Must remember to get my EZ Pass transponder out of my suv)

We watched 2 juvenile cooper's hawk jumping up and down eating grasshoppers for a good ten minutes. They're always in Rogue's tree (we planted a tree over one of the cat's graves years ago)

I did get to go to Bacon Jam today, that new restaurant. Had a honey chili crisp bacon grilled cheese with a bit of soup. It was good, real good. The latte was less exciting.

I went swimming at my brother's and that was nice.

Creative prompt: Write a fic or original story about a character reluctantly doing something they are hesitant about.

This time I did both. So barker Dana...you'd think I'd go for Hazbin Hotel my newest fandom but no, let me tell you about The Owl House. Yes this show ended prematurely but Disney allowed it to wrap it up. I know that there is a lot of bitter feelings between the creator and Disney to the point Dana Terrance doesn't want to even think about revisiting it or doing anything else with it which is a pity (and while I have no proof of it I do feel like DeSantis and the pressure Florida was putting on Disney at the time might have played a role)

This is not your typical Disney. Take our lead, Luz Noceda, a Dominican girl (Latinx), light brown skin and she's bisexual. We get portal fic as she's transported to the Boiling Isle. Season one is mostly Luz's adventures with King, a small dog like creature with a bone head (who has such a big role that I don't want to ruin if you haven't seen it) and Edalyn who gives us chronic illness rep and independent woman as she lives with her curse (the illness).

Luz meets Amity Blight (boom enemies to well not quite lovers, they're 13 and this is disney). Amity brings in intelligence, parental neglect/abuse and our lesbian rep. Luz befriends first Willow Park (perhaps in her way the strongest of them and our pansexual rep and she's raised by two dads) and Gus (Black main character) Eda's sister, Lilith goes from enemy to friend (and is our Ace rep) and Eda's former/future lover Raine is our non-binary character.

We also have a child soldier, Hunter (another enemy to friend an bi rep) along with his 'uncle' Emperor Belos one of the best drawn villain I've seen in a long time.

So yes incredibly queer animation meant for young teens out of Disney of all things. I love this animation so much.

Now my story is very rough (sorry) and not what I thought I would do. What I did was find my beginning for the next story in my Husk Overlord series all that glitters. It will become the story Husk and Angel become lovers but I wanted more than an pwp and couldn't find my story. But the idea that Angel doesn't want to show his feet is canon and I thought this could be what gives me the story, someone it out to hurt Angel so yay for that.

Anyhow, this would be the opening scene of a much longer work but here you go. It has blood/injury, swears and references to Angel as a sex worker and Angel's past sexual abuse at Valentino's hands (nothing graphic but it's probably clear what he means)
