I had my oncology appointment today. Everything is good. They asked are you having any pain. Yes. In the area we're concerned with? Yes but I think it's a hernia. Okay I KNOW it's a hernia and it tore more recently and it's very noticeable now. Last night it kept me awake. She took one look and said where do you want to go for your CT scan. That's definitely a hernia.

Went to the comic book store and mentioned I'm probably not going to be back next week for free comic book day (mostly because lately they're not a complete short story. It's like 4 pages of comic that you have to buy something to finish and 8 pages of ads for most of them) and she tried to lure me back with 'We're having a Renn fest on the river too. OMG, yes please however there are no less than 8 other festivals next weekend and I realize they're all outdoors except for the Ohioana book fest and after me saying I wasn't going to it if it rains I will.

When I was at herdcon last month I talked to student DJS and took their card. Well I couldn't get 88.1 here but since I was on Marshall's campus...I was expecting alt rock. from 1-4 (I was listening off and on) it was 30s-40s Jazz and modern jazz (delight!!) and when I got in the car to come home there was some song (hip hop) talking about how he'll hit it until he can't fuck her anymore and had multiple lyrics talking about how she wipes from ass to cunt and how he likes her grimy and I'm like OMFG why? also I didn't think you could air lyrics like that (maybe college rules are different) three songs later it was a gospel song. My gears were stripped.

I got some yummy Italian goodies at Home Goods including preserved lemons. I've used it before but that was not a whole lemon which is what it would be if I made these (I've been thinking about it. It's a matter of space and me not having any)

Also I did a bad (and I blame JK who told me about them) I got a cotton candy donut from Dunkin' Donuts.

I came home to all kinds of Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss news and I'm putting some of it here for listening to later (as I am tired)

Content warning- This mentions some potentially upsetting/triggering historical references to the Alien Registration Act (no wonders why this is on my mind now). This wasn’t the story I set out to write (this was supposed to be a spicy Huskerdust but the six words took me down this path. I’ll write spicy another day) Everything Angel says here happened during WWII. What happened to the Italians has been mentioned less in the history books than what happened to the Japanese Americans (probably because it wasn’t quite as horrible. If you want to know more you can read this Smithsonian article. I still have my grandparents’ alien registration paperwork. I hold it and can imagine their fear and emotional trauma.

I was one day late with my talk for hitting women's history month but my talk went well.

No one knew it but I dressed up in my 1890s walking dress complete with petticoat pretenders, a corset, my gladstone bag and hat I made (because restrictive clothing being a reason women can't be doctors was in my speech) and I strolled in expecting 4 students I bribed with extra credit and my science coworkers.

Instead I walked in and the place is packed! Nursing is there. Other faculty are there. My friend who retired drove all the way from 45 miles away to be there. Another retired friend canceled an appointment to come (I expected him), my friend (one of those nano ones I mentioned) and her daughter showed up all the way from Marietta (about 90 miles), two former students showed up and there were students I didn't even know there (I assume someone else bribed them).

I did it in a little over an hour (with a few political jabs I'm SURE my family will bitch about when they get the link but they were earned). I got no questions but so much applause.

My friend and her daughter and I went to Bob Evans for dinner (my treat because they came all that way and brought me a cannolo because they know how to make my Italian heart sing) We haven't seen each other in a while, talked about 2 hours (sorry poor Waitress)

But getting up before the sun sucked. We had some really good projects. However I was sad to see it was mostly 6-7th graders. We didn't have any high schoolers like we usually do and that's down to the fact that in OH 6-7th grades have to do a science project and then it's never again. They can graduate without much science. It's so sad and it's impacting my university badly, especially my nurses.

I took a nap when I got home which is unusual for me and I felt all the worse for it (as per usual)

I sat down to work on my sabbatical presentation. The power went out. sigh. It did come back soon enough and I'm up to about 40 slides and there is no way I can cover all the women I want to and do them justice.

It's been a high pain day. Ah well. Hanging in. I've been trying to decide about tomorrow. I am SO regretting not going to the Loveland Frogman festival. But I am trying to go to Herdcon. Parking is a nightmare on Marshall's campus. it even says so on their website. I called them and said hey I'm handicapped where should I park. The librarian (who arranged this con) went from happy you're coming to 'oh...yeah...good luck. Get here early.'

So I said blah, let's try that Athens book fair but it's in a bar with even worse parking. Sigh.

I'll probably go to herdcon. If I can't park I just don't put on my steampunk hat and corset and I drive another mile and go to the comic book store and mall. It's not like I don't go to huntington every 6 weeks. The only problem is I have to get up early on a weekend.

Talk about whining about first world problems.

Someone bid on my auction so now I'm happy. I did have a beta offer I wanted to talk to the person about but they only have tumblr as a contact. sigh. I wonder if I'll be outbid on everything because I'll be gone all day tomorrow

I didn't make it into the wedding horror anthology. Ah well. I sent out a different story today.

I barely got out of the apartment. Some of my students were surrounded and didn't make it. If I get a chance tomorrow I will take pictures of a spontaneous lake. I did lose power briefly last night but it never froze. Don't worry, another storm is heading this way.

Today was a big biology meeting where we got nothing accomplished in 1 1/2 hours. sigh. I went outside and my radio is off. WTF. I never turn it off. I see a message that my security system was off. I only seen this message when my battery is dead. I'm like did I have enough charge to get the thing started and now I'm running off my alternator? I get the radio back no sound...argh

and I don't want to go to Jackson (20 miles from work but the closest auto zone) because my blood sugar is fucked up. went to 320 when I ate my salad but when I ate 4 slices of pizza at the meeting my sugar went from 180 to 80 and I was getting dizzy. But off I go because I don't want to wake up to a dead battery. They check it and no problems. the battery is fine. They suggest it's a glitch and to call Honda if it continues. I get in. No sound and then i bump the steering wheel and the volume goes to 2. OMG it had turned the sound to zero whatever this is. The flashdrive music has reset to song one, again like it does if the battery is out. WTF

Talked to dad and he said his CRV has done this. it's a known glitch. ugh.

There's a saying around here (and points south) God Willing and the creek don't rise (I'll be there if those things happened) The creek rose but before that let's look at this day.

It wasn't supposed to rain. It's raining like 24 hours of it. Naturally I have to go to Best Buy to return the new monitor with it's small dead pixels before the 15 day grace period is over (yes I know BB sucks but they had this computer on sale 300$ cheaper than Amazon and Costco which were my preference) technically that was yesterday but I was taking my chances

But at work I got an email from payroll saying our payroll company needs me to send them the routing number because it was changed but they got it straightened out with my bank this time. No link to click but I'm like is this real?

I call my bank. They're like NO we did not change the routing number. I look up our actual payroll person (I don't know I have no reason to know) It WAS from her. It's real. Are you sure it's not been changed? My BANK is but to be fair I don't have my routing number on me and the bank will only do so much over the phone so I have to go up to the bank tomorrow and I'm wondering if I'm getting my pay check tomorrow...

Annoyed by this I head to Huntington to hit Best Buy. It's raining. I get to Hillbilly Hotdog (because if my health is gonna suck anyhow, might as well play into it). I hit the comic book store (hoping I didn't buy some of these before) And find out there's a new The Crow comic by o'Barr (need to tell JK) sadly they only have issue 3 so I have them trying to get me 1 and 2.

I hit up Michael's and find a few things I needed and spent my coupon.

I go to Best Buy and the kid is like you have protection on this. I know. I told the call center. He rolled his eyes. They're always wrong. I had two YEARS on this monitor. I didn't have to race down after work in the fucking rain. They replaced it with another Samsung (and if this gets dead pixels, that's it for them).

I go to Home Goods and they have TONS of Italian goodies on clearance and I bought so much of it. Lemon concentrate for Amalfi, alpine honey, a shit ton of Himalayan pink salt, kumquats in cognac, artichokes, hazelnuts in honey, truffles. But what made me laugh is I found a red dutch oven in the shape of a heart and text JK I found Angel Dust's cookery but then when I was checking out, I found out the amount left on my holiday gift card was 6.66 and the cost of my haul was 69.69. Yep Angel was in that store. Ha.

Macy's had nothing I wanted but found a new manga at BaM and after spilling my Box of Chocolates latte (salted caramel/chocolate/hazelnut latte with red velvet drizzle) on me and the car seat (thankfully not much of it and I'm wearing scrubs so it'll be okay) I stop at Sheetz to pee (because BaM's bathroom is closed again) and the warning comes on.

All the rain melted all 8-12 inches of snow (and it was almost 60 today) it's unfreezed the Ohio River and of course the rain, the creeks are rising. The river is flooding. The rocks are sliding. Mud is coming over the road. I'm like am I getting home? (on the phone tonight evil little dog is like wait isn't that the mall next to the cliff? yes yes it is) I made it home, got blinded by a train again.

And my phone call ended with ELD when my calf muscles decided to charley horse. OUCH.

Speaking of ouch I'm not sure I can continue with the Dexcom. My skin doesn't react well with glue. It simultaneously won't stick in some places and burns/won't come unglued in other (I know this from other treatments like kinesiotape) Also this thing has been itchy (glue) and burning like fuck (the wire sensor) so last time I accidentally knocked it off but this time I couldn't get this off to save my soul. I had to alcohol soak part of it. It still tore some of the skin (not enough to bleed) and the sensor was covered in blood and there's a bruised hole where it was). I'm giving it the night off. I like that I don't have to stick myself several times a day and it gives a lot of good info but this is not ideal

The Spider Brothers Overlords AU Angel can be more violent than a lot of fans give him credit (he's also smarter than they think) This AU is giving me a chance to explore that.

Yesterday morning I thought huh did Rocket eat that much before going out? then remembered the sounds of something trying to get into the house so I took note of how much food was in the bowl last night (because he was out last night) sure enough the bowl was mostly empty and the food Rocket threw on the floor was gone so yeah, whatever it is, is in here. I'm going to get traps for inside the closets and cabinets (since I've heard it under the sink). Sigh. Rocket wants out but it's so cold I'm not letting him go so maybe he can get whatever it is.

Something happened today that's never happened before: Six students from my morning microbiology class after 1 pm but before the 230 anatomy class dropped me and went with the other professor. Either I was so bad in class one or maybe they were in my friday lab and didn't want that. That means my friday lab is empty which drops the lab which drops me below full time in my contract by .5 hours. My dean says it shouldn't matter. We'll see

I wish I could see more of the newer stuff even though I have to admit I didn't much care for S1 of Discover and Picard got a bit...not really feeling like star trek. I really need to watch Lower Deck.

It's odd though. I have never been able to write much in this fandom. Drabbles and flash fic is pretty much it. The really weird thing is way back in the 80s I had been asked into a ST writing convention as a potential author (I think one of my professors arranged this) but it was so restrictive I couldn't imagine trying it. I guess I regret it a bit.


As for the aforementioned negative thing there's this here on reddit. To recap it, some people don't like Angel Dust because he does have some negative gay stereotypes (the non stop sexual comeons which actually DO die down once we realize why he does it) and him being drug addicted etc etc

So this person waited in line for an autograph from a voice actor then mocked it up to make it look like the VA supported their campaign against the character and the creator.

this is a bit unhinged. I mean I came through Buffy's toxic fandom. I watched Supernatural's even worse fandom from the sidelines via friends but man this is a step way too far.
