I managed to get out and go to the Book Fest at my local library but this is what it's like around here

Whatever fixes my current landlords put in have helped the flooding around my place but if it keeps raining (and it is) that won't last (speaking of landlords saw my old one at Kroger today)

I got D.M. Guay's second book (glad to see her as she's surviving stage 4 kidney cancer) and a mothman book from a former student of my university and I'm the one who hooked her up with contacts at this library (she lives in Point Pleasant) and Mindy McGinnis who is on the NY bestseller list is the biggest draw. Also saw the local author I often share a coffee house table with (but she does royal historical romances, not really my thing. I did get one last year at this but didn't finish it)

I had a bad night last night, dangerously low sugar and AGAIN the dexcom didn't alert. I need to look at why. Was up over an hour 2:30-4 AM

Tonight was good. Abney Park had another concert, a cyberpunk themed one. It was enjoyable.

and you've been waiting for it so here it is my sabbatical presentation

weird snow

It's been snowing all day but almost nothing is accumulating, it's like a snow cone consistency. Tomorrow it should just rain. So another storm of your life adverted. Rolls eyes at weather channel.

Other than that today was boring so let's do some fannish 50

two things. I've been watching baking championships since my accident (4 years ago this month wow) which is weird as I don't bake, almost at all. I am enjoying them, I'm now a fan but I have such mixed feelings about the kid's baking championship (I get the feeling I've said this before) Even the adult bakers break down crying but these kids are 10-14 years old for the most part. It's a helluva lot of pressure to put on kids that young. And I do want to slap all judges regardless of age bracket when they do the 'i don't like this....' waits for the baker/cook to start trembling and adds 'I love it.' I don't know who thinks this is funny but it's worse when it does crop up on the kids' show.

As for the rest of fannish 50 I'm highlighting those who can take a look at their fannish things and make it fun or poke fun at it. To that end I'm sharing some honest trailers. I find this stuff pretty darned funny. Here's a few of my favorites

This one might be a little meaner than usual but come on, I clapped and hooted at every other Marvel character in this thing

This one is fun

Buffy just because

Just because I love this movie and Brandon

And this Captain America because I DO NOT remember ever seeing it and everyone show need eye bleach just not me
cornerofmadness: Angel hugging his pig amidst rubble (Default)
I planned to go to Gallipolis lights (they're lovely) and I wanted to stop at the office to take my plants to the greenhouse. My secretary asks am I coming to the holiday party. Uh thought that was yesterday in the snow. But yes I'll do free food and see what my holiday gift is this year. A stocking hat (happy holidays, Dad because I'm not keeping this) It was nice to see my coworkers and one brought his girlfriend. THey're young. He was at Galaxycon and is introducing her to the world of anime. She wanted my suggestions and had already seen Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (my go to) She loves Disney. I'm like THE OWL HOUSE. Go watch it. Anything by Miyuzaki but especially Howl's Moving Castle. And oh Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss.

Advent Joy

Eat at a new restaurant or new cuisine. Okay I kinda did that. It's called The Cafeteria and to be fair, it was good. I had turkey/gravy, a corn pudding that was excellent (probably has my sugar back up to 300) and there were roast veggies, sweet potatoes/potatoes/brussle sprouts/beets. WHEE. I was excited until I had the beets. I'm like did they forget to wash them? It tastes like mud. My secretary looks at me and says I thought it was just me. Nope. This is dirt.

Day 12 tea - OMG finally a black one. Simpson and Vail does literary inspired tea blends and this one was Charles Dickens (I already have Edgar Allan Poe and Lewis Carroll in my collection and ha Edgar has my beets in it and doesn't taste like fucking mud) Dickens is black and oolong tea, black currants and cornflowers. It's very nice.

Here are the lights (not my video, I haven't gotten any of that up) It was also 25 degrees and several people had no coats on and/or had babies too young to shiver there. Eye roll.

I also forgot to post these galaxycon videos with my fannish 50

And while I do not expect anyone to watch all this (I sure didn't) it gives you a good idea of the lines in the first minute

And for thursday's community recs, here's some writing related ones, [community profile] ushobwri it's twice a week and [community profile] getyourwordsout's sign up for 2025 is open. I do habit for this one and also open for sign ups is [community profile] inkingitout and I think I put in for 150K

I had planned to do a Point Pleasant run but then it was raining. It's going to rain for days. Sigh. The rain didn't bother me as far as the trip but I wanted to take all the Halloween village boxes and the huge can store a body in it plastic tote back to my office. I wasn't taking the former out in the rain but I did haul the latter.

Spent the morning cranking out the words at Coffee Grinders. It's not the best coffee shop but it tries. Honestly that could be Point Pleasant's theme song. It's actually a rather depressed and depressing place but in the last five year or so it's been working hard on revitalizing itself. Many of the empty store fronts are filled but at the same time the historic Lowe hotel failed this year. A lot of this is Mothman money. Let's make no mistake of it. Our interest in cryptids is keeping this town afloat and others are taking notice of it (I see you Loveland, OH). More power to them.

I didn't find anything cool at the Mason Jar which is an antique/thrift/craft store sort of thing other than one rather ugly paperweight that had a circle chipped out of it (an obvious impact fracture) that was Fenton glass with Fenton pricing. Nope but hand me that no-sugar apple butter. Thanks. That's a Christmas gift.

I went to the Mothman trading company but most of it was cryptid/UFO t-shirts (fun stuff) but not what I was looking for. I did find Mothman playing cards for my brother's stocking stuffer.

Fannish 50 - Here's a follow up from another one. The Hazbin Hotel hacker was caught but what kills me in this story are the fans who purchased the stolen episodes WHINING that they didn't get much or anything for their money. Dude, that's karma

I've been saying this for a while now. I do not need a new fandom, not a third one in one year but there's Betty and [profile] suzume_seta are just there enabling me. Also what's not to love about a Prohibition era St Louis setting story about anthropomorphic cats running bathtub gin?

And I wanted to share some more fan made songs because you know how much I love that. While I miss a lot of things from the more old school internet fandom, one thing I love about the new fandom: animatics and fan made music. It's keeping me fed.

Someone riffing off Stayed Gone but made it for Lute and Lilith (and I'd love to see something like this canonically)

Paranoid DJ is a multi-fandom joy. He's even got one for Lackadaisy already

This one with Husk isn't the strongest vocally but it captures early Husk's character

And here's one of his pre Blitzo/Fizzarolli make up and someone did an animatic to it because it needed it

And someone mashed up two Hazbin fan songs and it's amazing

And a late amv of all the Hazbin/Helluvaboss Halloween fan art

No lie. It was very rainy today and the meterologists were off again. 57 today? Nope, never got over 44 but eh I'm okay with the cold (my knee says I'm nuts) On the way home in the rain the rainbow literally ended before me on the highway...

So I did spend a lot of money today on the car (oil/air filters) but that's done for now I drive so much so money well spent.

I saw the vascular surgeon. Good news: exactly as I read the report, my leg is fine. Bad news: he says you know stents fail.

Me: yes it's inevitable

Doc: it's behind your knee where it should never be but with the trauma there's no choice

Me: yeah I figured that (it is of course constantly being bent and kinked and even lying in bed, it's caught between the meat of my leg and the mattress)

Doc: We'll eventually have to fix it to save the leg. It'll be better to not replace the stent but bypass it

Me: Oh, okay (that's a surprise)

Doc: DO NOT do anything about your varicose veins. We're going to need those later to build a new bypass for your leg (or we'll have to go digging in your arms)

Me: ah...that's news to me. Okay sure.

Doc: Leaving you on every 6 months for dopplers.

Me: fine.

I'm okay to fly. No need to worry about the one blocked (trauma) artery as it is collateralized and I asked about neurogenic claudication. The back doc will deal with that but it often DOES NOT require surgery but rather injections (of what I do not know)

Then I go home and once again Medical Mutual proves to be the worst insurance on the face of the planet. After going thru 6 weeks of PT at their request, the once again denied the MRI to find out what is causing blood flow to my leg to stop saying it's not medically necessary because I didn't do any PT or drugs. Meanwhile yes I have. Calling them tomorrow but this insurance is good for one thing: making whoever has it feel hopeless. The only excuse I can think of is maybe the PT people haven't billed them (I need to go check)

I can't go on NSAIDs like they want because I'm on blood thinners (one is a NSAID). You add higher dose NSAIDs to that I can have a GI bleed, kidney damage or a hemorrhagic stroke and if these decisions were being made by doctors instead of bean counters this would not be an issue.

And for fannish 50 here are more recs and some vids

Sometimes you just have to laugh at your fandom and we have Honest Trailers to help us do that. Towards the end of this one I felt very called out when it puts up the 'please clap' signs because dammit if I didn't when I saw this at the theater.

Black Gryphon dropped a new Alastor song. Like I said I am in awe of how many fan songs I see these days (I mean we had filk songs back in the day but they weren't nearly as common as songs are now) Here's the new one, not quite as good as the first IMO but I liked it.

and I think I've shared the first one before and honestly I'm with the people calling for this one to get professionally animated (like Addict did)

Might start sleeping again. Today I was ready to blow up the front loader in the landromat. Nothing in the middle was wet and nothing on the outside spun out so basically I have unclean laundry. Whee.

I saw my CT scan and other than one vessel that's deadweight (which I already knew about it, it was part of the original damage) my blood flow is fine. Yay but then...the symptoms are probably in my back and that is sucky.

Dyed my hair majestic violet. Indoors it looks...walnut. that's okay though.

Got the EZ pass sorted. It was what I thought. the system didn't make my new card THE card and kept the old, stolen one. eye roll. Also passed out when I was told I had 4 bucks left on the card because it cost 45 dollars round trip to Gettysburg. Is that turnpike paved in gold?!?

What I Just Finished Reading:

You Have Gone Too Far by Carlene O'Connor - a good Irish police procedural

Stitches by Hirokatsu Kihara and Junji Ito horror 'true stories' by Kihara and illustrated by famous horror mangaka Junji Ito. It was good but definitely library rental fare.

What I am Currently Reading:

Twisted Shadows by Allie Therin another arc, the sequel to Liar City which I loved, this is good so far BUT there is way too much spent on the interpersonal stuff and less on the plot. I hope the balance rights itself.

Murder at the Old Abbey by Pippa McCathie, a police procedural set in Wales

to start looking for doctors in Pittsburgh for an endoscopy. It would just be easier to do there. Let's see with my shit insurance. I'm long overdue for one and I'm back in the whole 'everything I eat gives me nausea and heart burn' and I'm literally maxed out on stomach meds.

I don't even know where today disappeared to so I'm just going to launch into music monday unless you want to hear my weird dream. You do? Sure.

I was at home (my parents') and a cat jumped on my bed. It was my cat (yet not one I've had) and I was like oh, how did you get out of the game room. I went downstairs and the double doors to the back room wouldn't shut as if they were suddenly too small. I called for my parents to come look at them and they were suddenly the doors from the 90s with the wallpaper that made them look like a garden. by the time my parents got there they looked like tatters of cloth. No idea what that means.

The second dream was I was at the school and there was craft show. Somehow I got there within an hour of closing. I hate that (I have a weird thing about being anywhere near closing time) I picked up a few things but everyone was packing up. I had this thing in my hand like a wind chime of mushrooms (I've gotten into goblincore this year) but I was like 'oh no, I got distracted and wandered off with this without paying' I tried to find the vendor but more and more of them had disappeared. I called over someone to help me but now it was more like a toy you'd put in a baby's crib and before our eyes it turned into something else. No idea what that means either.

Had my mammogram which now has the 3-D version which seems to have a slightly smaller deck because she's like your breasts are too big so we need to do it in 2 parts. Really? Whines. She only had to redo one (so I hope it was that and nothing bad) I'll go looking in the portal tomorrow.

I finished going thru the dvds and stacking them on the shelf (going 2 deep except the top shelf) That's when I realize what was in the kitty/doggy canvas container. TONS of anime I have never. Ever. seen. That's when I remembered I bought a shit ton of stuff when Right Stuf went under. Yay?

I also found chapters of stories that are now published, hand written shit I don't even know about. Recycler you shall be full.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried an Asian meets Italy recipe with a roasted garlic miso cream sauce. It was excellent. Also the cavatelliluccis I made from Italy did NOT bump my sugar the way that Trader Joe's pasta did.

Fannish 50, how about some fan created stuff (and in that I'm including something from geek Michael Rosenbaum's talk show)

Betty sent me this tour de force for Doctor Who's 50th blending ALL the Doctors (and i'll admit it I was never a fan of the 20th century ones. I tried) AND the way it took on A-Ha's Take On Me art style

I love Star Reckt's stuff. This might not be my favorite but it's fun

Paranoid DJ has access to talent most fans don't get to tap into. There is a huge thing (lawyers involved) over fans using AI to mimic voice actors. DJ is a voice actor and knows others so this is not AI and it is superb. Also since it's helluva Boss the language is bad.

Other fans are the master of finding the right sounds bites and coming up with stuff like this.

And I might have shared this Owl House one before. John Mulaney is funny and putting Raine, Eda and King to his skit, hysterical.

The one thing about Michael's show is some of his guests feel safe unburdening some of the dark things in their life (witness Wil Wheaton talking about his family life which was bad) James Marsters is FINALLY being honest about S6 of Buffy (I do remember during S6 he and Sarah being honest about how they didn't like where Spuffy was going and were gagged for years on it) I'm not even sure that this is where that scene came from (that the writer did the stalking of her guy and thought let's gender flip it since it is far too common with the aggressive man (not that I'm saying it doesn't go the other way around it does))
cornerofmadness: Angel hugging his pig amidst rubble (Default)
because today was long and after four days of festivals I was tired. No pictures. No cleaning. No writing. No laundry done. Did about 10 minutes of transcription of my notes. How is it nearly 11pm? Is my former student getting revenge because PT was hard today (good but hard but I did it all very well but my god are my muscles tight on the left. I think it's been so hard used as my anchor because the right is garbage, it's all tightened up)

So Saturday I did get some of the dvd situation taken care of. I have this 3 shelved thing holding them. I knew it was double stacked on the bottom. thought it was dvds...it was VHS!!! OMFG. Well a) obviously I never had those dvds off the shelf in a decade b)boy I had a lot of ballet vhs tapes (before YT obviously) c)vhs tapes meet the trash d) look the Star Wars ones before Lucas fucked it up. Keeping those even if they'll never play again e) ha, look a this collection of gay anime on VHS, hey FAKE ([personal profile] badly_knitted will approve)

So I put most of it back. Separated out multiple ones to get rid as I will never, ever watch them again, like the whole Vincent Kartheiser collection which was never very good and now that I know he's pretty much trash out they go. But I have to go redo the shelves. Why am I putting the dvds of the movies that are on tv constantly out on the shelves? Put them in the drawers because I won't need them. Why haven't I gotten rid of them? I'm a little afraid that this stuff will get locked away forever and I don't want to lose them. I have one more bin to go through so I can resort things then (was meant to be today but it didn't do it)

Also let's see if I can get my ass banned from pintrest which blurs out multiple Hazbin pins as 'adult content' but you can't even see what it was to appeal it. So I went off on that, them using AI to determine this AND if you're this concerned explain why the fuck I have to wade through multiple sexualized ads to even USE your site.

Today I had to go to the dentist to have even more work done. It was a surprise to me that the big ass cavity was in the upper right molars (the one place that didn't hurt) and I mention oh...I thought it was upper left where all the pain is.

PAIN?!? He thinks it was a bit of a high spot on that last crown that was putting pressure on it and adjusted it. The filling on the bad tooth went well. He was much better today than the last couple of times I will say that. He was like when I first went and rather liked him. Hmm.

I thought I was doing well pain wise with the kidney-killing massive dose of Ibuprofen (which luckily did not mess up my stomach) because there was no pain at my soft squishy mexican chile rellenos dinner but no...that was the long acting anesthetic which is now gone. ouch.

I keep getting messages that something is arriving today/tomorrow by post. I have no idea what this is (my books aren't due for 2 weeks) I did get something in the box today from Edwards and I about panicked as that's my oncology hospital. No, it's some medical group. I THINK this is the durable goods people my insurance deals with for my dexcom. Is it that? No clue will need to call him.

I'd see James Earl Jones trend on Twitter I'd catch my breath. Today the inevitable happened. R.I.P. Mr. Jones. You brought a lot of joy into this world.

Today I saw the allergist. When he asked about my health since I last saw him, he literally had the look of pity that hurt (and the young doctor to be seemed horrified) I looked and sounded so bad with my allergies I know have three new scripts. This should be fun.

I can't always get calls/texts at the house cuz I'm so rural. So while I was in town at the doctor's a shit ton rolled in including two from my insurance about an upcoming appointment and one trying to get my dexcom for me. Well fantastic. I'll have to make those calls tomorrow after the tv stand gets built. Also I couldn't get the dental appointment made. sigh.

I can't move the bookcase/media center if I need to because the 100 pounds of tv stand is up against them and they're too heavy to move without unloading them. sigh.

I have come to a conclusion moving all this bullshit around, I need to get another terabyte external hard drive and get rid of my music. I have SO many cds. Much like books I collect cds too (or did back in the day) Too many. I spent WAY too much and I think that's one of the reasons I've held on to SO many of these guilt over money perhaps ill spent. Especially the country music and all the crap from Columbia House (remember that?!?) Anyhow it's time. Save the songs I still want as MP3s and get rid of these things. (I'm talking hundreds of them) Decide what I want to keep (signed ones, classical, jazz and Native most likely) and move on the rest. I belonged to a classical music club. A jazz one. in addition to Columbia House. A lot of them because you couldn't sample before you bought in the later 80s and throughout the early 00s (or at least not like you can today) I have a bunch I never even liked once I bought them or I have the ones you bought after hearing one cool song on the radio and the rest sucked it. (I eventually instituted a rule, I had to like 3 songs before buying).

I am doing this because a) needs doing b) my place is incredibly cluttered c) my health sucks and I don't want anyone having to do it for me if something bad happens.

But speaking of music let's continue with the Music Monday Alphabet theme with sharing songs that begin with a certain letter. Feel free to chime in with your favorite song(s) that follow the weekly letter. Hit me with your favs. I love hearing new music or revisiting older pieces. This week's letter is S

So I'm clearing out the part of the room where I'll have the TV stand put (right now it's on a rickety stand held up by two big bins of books. Rocket is NOT impressed by this and does not know how to handle it so he's opted for wandering and howling. So helpful.

I looked through the books. There are things I've had in there since the 80s and never read. I never will. So 5 bags of books are going for donations.

Speaking of donations I forgot this part yesterday. So my friends gave me some donation suggestions for my clothes one of them was My Brother's Keeper (a Baptist charity) in Wellston and since it was dead center of the festival I went inside. Keep in mind I'm coming from PT so I'm in a t-shirt and those knit type shorts that I don't usually wear out but they're the best for PT. I ask the lady are they taking donations

Lady: yes we are

Me: okay what are your hours since I don't want to walk them thru the festival

Lady: (obviously relieved) oh thank you. We've been SO busy today. Our hours are on the door.

She looks at me and then says are you from McArthur?

Me: no I'm from this area (McArthur is about 15-20 miles north)

Lady: Do you know the St Francis outreach there?

Me: No but I'm sure I could find it.

Lady: You could do that. I'm sure they'd want your clothes.

Me: (puzzled) okay sure. Alright then I'm going back to the festival. thanks

Lady: come back and shop sometime.

I leave wondering WHY did the Baptists just send me 20 miles away to the Catholics knowing I'm from here? Is it my clothing and she thinks I'm too poor to have clothes worth their time? Is it the Welsh dragon on my shirt and she thinks it's demonic? Did she see the Victor and the Bully Sinner pin on my purse? Do I send out former Catholic vibes?!?

Guess I'll be calling the Catholics (or just drive around until I find an anonymous bin which is my preference)

Found a fun channel on YT Pasta Grannies. They are recipes but they are also the history/culture/language of the regions and these women. And also the handmade dough makes me feel 6 again making it with my grandma

Over 100

It was 101 in Chillicothe today.

My blood pressure was 170/80 which is HIGH. My pressure is usually 115/70 which is well documented so the ultrasound tech was worried. I'm worried. It'll be rechecked later this week. Also she was worried because she knows me.

I can't go within 100 miles any direction without running into someone I trained. It's both impressive and overwhelming sometimes (probably for both of us. It's no doubt a little weird to see your professor without pants on, just saying)

My blood vessels in my legs are perfect though so that's that for another 6 months. I'm glad of that.

I was less glad I wasn't allowed caffeine until my ultrasound was over because it's a vasoconstrictor (the last thing you want when you're looking at the blood flow thru a vessel) I didn't get out of there until 3 pm. Honestly that could have caused the pressure issue straight up withdrawal. I was shaky, sweaty and headachy by the time I rolled into the nearest good coffee shop.

So let's talk The Crow for my Fannish 50 this week. I am a huge The Crow fan

I HAUNTED comic book stores back in the late 80s waiting for more of this until I learned only ONE comic book (the one in pittsburgh naturally, nothing close to me) carried it and at that time, at least in my area, there was no such thing as a pull list. I have several 'special volumes' of this including one that came with a CD.

When Brandon Lee's version came out, I was nervous. I was afraid they'd mess it up (and let's be honest it's not a great adaptation of the comic book). And then Brandon died during the making of it which was heart wrenching. I was in the middle of my residency in NYC at that time. My friends Cat and JK got together to see this movie. I was coming off a 36 hour shift and I ate about a half pound of chocolate covered espresso beans before seeing it so I could stay awake (at that point I could probably see thru time)

And I loved the movie. I loved Brandon. I love J. O'Barr's art so much so I own a couple panels that I couldn't afford at the time. Right now two pieces of signed small prints and one large one are staring at me from the living room wall (I don't have the original panels here because of how far I am from a fire hydrant and a fire house). I have a half dozen or more signed posters.

I. Love. The Crow!

And I've put up with bad sequels (by not watching them) but there is something about the new movie that just sets my teeth on edge. For one, I think in general people are fucking TIRED of remakes/reboots/whatever you want to call them.

As I said I don't think Brandon's movie is a great adaptation but it was a fun movie. Yes I was a goth at the time it came out (well still am when I feel up to dressing) and Honest Trailer is always a laugh

On the other hand I saw this trailer a while back and thought god I'm bored.

So have I seen this movie? No. Am I? Maybe if it's free on TV. Am I really talking about this in spite of not seeing it? You betcha.

I actually like Bill Skarsgård, but there have been interviews that suggest he didn't want to be in this movie once it started. Have some reviews

The Crow Review: A Dull, Lifeless, Meaningless Remake

And from JK who found this review The Crow review – unfathomably awful goth remake

Yeah you can find good reviews but from a friend who writes horror for a living which goes to the whole 'you can't tell time in this movie' issue it seemed like Eric and Shelly only knew each other a couple days in rehab. so there is no motivation for his supernatural transformation.

For me the heart of The Crow was Eric and Shelly's innocence. They were truly innocent victims of random senseless violence, not living a high risk life style and rather sketchy themselves.

And it's the same question I ask every time I see an adaptation that's bad, if all you wanted was the name recognition a known property will bring your otherwise original, has nothing to do with the source material movie, why not TRY to bring it to us as an original movie. There are things I would have liked better had they done that (not necessarily this thing as I was super bored with the trailer)

Why is it so hard to find good adaptations?
cornerofmadness: (writing king1)
I, like most authors, want to pack in as much emotion (and emotional trauma) as I can in a story. However sometimes we manage it in inauthentic ways, not on purpose but because we're trying to be clever, deliver that 'big twist' or just don't have a great handle on some things because we're reaching (I mean I have no idea how to be a drug addicted sex worker but writing Angel Dust fan fic (and some of my own characters) I've had to at least try to think like one.

We often reach out and read 'how tos' all over the place (I mean I DO write this post every weekend chock full of links) but at the end of the day not all of them are helpful and many don't look at this in a way that makes sense to everyone. And let's be clear here, we ALL make mistakes and see things in different ways such as you'll see in my examples in a minute.

I just finished one YA horror that was pretty darned good. However, there were some emotional missteps. One could have been fixed with a little editing (the constant emo-ing about losing her friends 3 years ago that takes up every conscious minute) and the other was I think trying to be a twist but felt like at the 3/4s mark the protagonist suddenly wakes up and realizes she's gay. We've all seen things and wondered WHY would ANYONE act like the thing we just saw/read/heard. Sometimes the answer is as simple as we don't understand that psychology that would make it believable and so it wasn't present in the narrative.

To that end I'm sharing Georgia Dow's stuff. She's not a writer but a therapist who loves analyzing characters in fandoms I like (there are other therapists out there too and it's interesting to give them a listen, to learn how people think/react/adapt. I first found here via The Owl House but all of those have disappeared off YT so here are some (one I think I've shared before) others so you can get a taste of it.

Here's one looking at Husk's psychology and how some of us keep people at a distance. (also there is a fair amount of disagreement with one of her statements and I'm rather with them vs her when she takes Husk to task for being a bit harsh to Angel's constant sexual inneundos which are very unwanted)

This one is very spoilery if you are NOT fully caught up with Helluva Boss but it's a good look at a relationship self destructing and what happens when partners are at unequal status (which is a trope a lot of people enjoy)

A good one looking at depression which a lot of characters (and authors and readers) struggle with

And a look at Wednesday and bad therapy

Because I need something happy right? I took care of everything here and I don't want to go into how entirely unprepared my aunt is (she doesn't even know the security code to get back in her house, took a lot of trying possibilities) So to all the couples and wanna be ones out there, do not be the S.O. who lets your partner do everything because you don't want to know, like my aunt (and if the partner insists on doing everything leaving you dependent, that's a red flag)

The only thing else I did today was get annoyed by the income based repayment thing with my student loans because of the gov. challenges to even doing THAT much to help students, I can't do it online. No I have to go back to the old fashioned printing out forms and sending them. What a step backward (and what sense does it make?)

I also hid from pain in writing. So if you want something a little smutty I did something for [community profile] summerofthe69 that you can find here on Ao3. Glitter and Gold.

Let's continue with the Music Monday Alphabet theme with sharing songs that begin with a certain letter. Feel free to chime in with your favorite song(s) that follow the weekly letter. Hit me with your faves. This week's letter is N

Only 78 because West Penn Power had a planned outage 'intermittently from 7AM -3 pm' which went out at noon and came back at 8 pm and there was nothing intermittent about it.

So I sat out on the porch. All. Day. We had a nice breeze. Had to go out for dinner. I didn't write like I might have wanted to (reserving the computer battery for the evening should it be needed). I didn't work on the work or sabbatical stuff for the same reasons.

So I read. A lot. That was nice. I'd like to go out tonight to look see if I can see some of perseid's. They don't peak for a while. It's amazing how much I don't usually like 75 degrees but since it's 20 degrees cooler than its been it feels amazing out there.

I was going to do a Helluva Boss post on Tuesday as I had finished S1 but didn't. Now I'm nearly done with S2 so I might as well wait.

So in the meantime have some animatics. Check them out. Give them some love if you're so moved.

This one is so fun it should be canon

Another well done one (yay for Husk having his sax)

I enjoy Star reckt so much

Really nice Angel Dust animatic

And a The Owl House short that amused me

No shit, day two of sucking on my inhaler to keep breathing.

I fear for my students. Most of my 'majors' (non nursing) anatomy students this time are sports/exercise students who obviously pay no attention to me and have never had any sex ed. I give them two work sheets for matching, coloring etc for male and female body parts. One student copied off their lab partner (they are allowed to help each other here) and OMFG the answers on the matching. I was telling the math prof (who got the answers right btw)

Q - What is the structure that surrounded the urethra just below the bladder and makes a milky fluid (answer you guess it)

Their answer - PENIS. Your penis is just below the bladder?!?

Q - what organ delivers semen to the vagina (you know this)

Their answer - testicles. Ladies, I don't know what kinda sex yinz are having but if you jamming testicles up there, I'm concerned.

In the class review we play jeopardy games and the answer was clitoris. The four girls sat there not answering, the three guys chorused it like they were in the Vienna Boys choir. took about three minutes for us all to stop laughing but hey they listened to me when I said learn what that is and what it is for.

I had thoughts for the fandom portion of this but it's late and now I'm tired so have this link Flippy sent me 8 Hazbin Hotel Musical Numbers That Need To Happen In Season 2 I agree with the author.

I am not happy. It's been in the mid 80s for 3 days so I've been nauseous all three days (It'll take me awhile to get used to this nonsense).

I can't believe there are only 3 weeks left to the semester. HOW??

Let me just dive right into the Fannish 50. It's creator appreciation time so let me dive into all the cool stuff I've found

Let's put the animatics and AMVs under here )

Okay 96% of total. Christopher Mann says it best for me right here. (I got into his songs over Covid. He has the right amount of sarcasm for me)

I actually did make a pinhole projector because my dumb ass forgot to buy the glasses. However my secretary's kids school gave them a crap ton so I scored glasses (that hopefully were good because I'm hoping they weren't out to blind elementary school kids) And I am appreciative of the fact that the school gave them glasses. I have to say I doubt back in my day they would have let us go look. It was cool to experience it. I still have an eye ache though. Of course my mouth got away from me. I put on those glasses which you can't see thru at all if you're not looking and the first words out of my mouth are 'boy you could get kinky with these.' At least my friends know how I am.

I'm still on a sugar rollercoaster and I don't know why I was so high this morning (well over 300) but I've been running SO high that I started shaking out like hypoglycemia at a blood sugar of 200 which is double what it should be. Damn.

Let's continue with the Music Monday Alphabet theme with sharing songs that begin with a certain letter. Feel free to chime in with your favorite song(s) that follow the weekly letter. First up of course is the letter A

For not going to trivia night (I was going to go to the silent book club at the library) because L is so much drama at the moment and I'm not up to it. I however didn't go to the club either. I still didn't come home until 530 today and that's the earliest I've been in all week and I'd have to eat out to make that book club and I had no energy for anything.

I'm excited because [community profile] unconventionalcourtship is going to run again this year. I would love to do that silly thing and maybe doing the one I planned last year but ran out of time for. Maybe.

And I see literally days before Camp Nano usually starts we're seeing emails for it. As someone else on my list said we were wondering what the hell was going on and if they were doing it after the controversy in Nov. I'll probably do it. I don't know if they opened the forum but I haven't gone to those in years anyhow. The way I see the controversy is I haven't heard HOW they handled the issues (of racist comments, sexual comments) I heard about it and the next day the forums were locked. I have no idea if it took a long time to get that enacted or if it was almost immediate. That's the part that matters more to me. I know that there is absolutely no way of stopping those comments, especially using volunteer work, because assholes are everywhere but if they ignored it until people screamed that would bother me. Sigh.

So I did say I'd be doing the fandom post today for the fannish 50 thing. I'm just doing a rec post for Hazbin Hotel fandom. Assume none of this is SFW. I assume that advances in software has allowed a lot more fan animations than my earlier fandoms could have dreamed of. Also some of the fan original songs are blowing me away. If I thought both of these were something in The Owl House and Critical Role fandoms, they are equally impressive in Hazbin's.

cut because I'm so deep into fandom's Youtube presence )
