“This was not what I was expecting when Giles said this came from the Knights Templar.” Xander fussed with his eye-patch after rubbing the aching socket. How could an eye that didn’t exist any more get eyestrain?

Dawn glanced up from the tome written in scratchy, cramped black ink. She swept her long hair back. “What were you expecting?”

“Not something in a language we’d need a polyglot like you to translate,” he huffed.

“I see. You were hoping for something along the lines of the Da Vinci Code or Indiana Jones.”

“Would have been a helluva lot more fun.”

Steven listened diligently. There was so much he had to know and the six year old absorbed it like ground after a drought. The nature of the beast, Father called it. Steven had to understand, that when he met Angelus, there would be things that could put him off the path. Father warned him that Angelus could pretend to be good, would offer him things that Steven might want. He couldn’t be fooled by that. Long were the lectures on how to kill a vampire, longer still the ones on Angelus’ own nature. Steven would be ready. He couldn’t wait.

Connor - Post Series - Following in Father's Footsteps

He found it ironic that Spike tells him more than Angel ever would. Connor allowed that maybe Angel was humiliated by the things he did as Angelus but it’s a part of him that can’t be denied. Connor wanted to know everything. Somehow he knew he probably should feel a little guilty about using the Reilley money for this but he doesn’t. His eyes lifted to the top of the Great Wall thinking about the changes in his father’s life that happened in this country. The curse might have started in Europe but it was in China that Angel’s rebirth began.
