Parents and vacation
May. 14th, 2007 04:18 pmOkay when did I become incapable of traveling by myself? For years I have done so. Is it age? Did my Mom hit 60+ and turn into a worrier. Did me edging in on 40 make me somehow incapable of rendering intelligent decisions.
Yes, I want to go on vacation. No, I don't have anyone to go with. Yes, most of my vacations in recent years I haven't been alone but none of my friends can go. They all have families or jobs or otherwise can't go. This has never been a problem before. Sigh.
You know, it's not exactly like I want to be entirely alone but hey, I adapt well. Mother is especially afraid because I want to go to Vegas. Well to be honest I'd rather make that trip with a group since it would be more fun. But apparently Mother thinks I'll be strolling the Strip at 3 AM in a microdress with a victimize me sign around my neck. I think she's forgotten who has worked in big cities before. I'm pretty sure I know how NOT to be stupid. Head desk.
So I looked up some Grayline tours of both Vegas and Seattle (since the one all woman's travel club I'm looking at does mostly oversea's trips. I guess I'll do that next year) since i'm not the 'take a cruise' kinda person. Mollified that I'll be with people most of the day (what? did she think I was going to go into the desert on my own around Vegas?) Mom looked up airfare. She even found one to Seattle with a lay over IN Vegas. We're going to look into that and see if I can extend the trip for two days in Vegas on the way back.
If she doesn't make me insane first.

What's For Dinner Tonight
May. 14th, 2007 09:53 pmWell
wildrider asked for this first recipe and i thought I'd share some of the other things I've discovered lately. I have a fetish, collecting recipes. Oh I don't make most of them but occasionally I get a wild hair. (note the first one is from Everyday Italian on the foodnetwork and it an attempt to recreate a cured italian ham that uses cinnamon but isn't really available in the USA the other two are from Cooking Light
( cinnamon-pancetta carbonara )
( Edamame- Avocado Soup (chilled) )
( Bulgogi (Korean Beef Barbecue) )
Serving suggestions: Do NOT combine the above. That would be clashing and frightening. However try this
1. With the fettucine have some nice crusty garlic bread
2. This soup is great for a summer brunch with a nice side salad
3. With the beef, you can have some nice Kimchi or your favorite Asian appetizers or do what I did a salad with madarin oranges and ginger pear dressing (maple grove farms of vermont makes a decent bottled one)
