Exhausted

I'm so tired I actually opened my splendid packets at work and poured it into the garbage and put the paper into my tea. Oh lord.

I put the big bone test together. I'm giving it all day tomorrow and all day friday but it tok 4 hours to do and I didn't get home until 8pm. I'm SO tired.

I did get a little of the novel going and I hate to say it Nano has managed to make the absolute WORST website. It's not even recognizing updates or giving credit for updating. totally didn't give me credit for yesterday. I want to burn it down.

I am worried beyond belief about tomorrow but I've done all I can and I have to remind myself of that. Everything else is out of my control.

But speaking of the vote, look! I got a personal thank you from Keiko Ageno (god she's such a sweetie) You can hear her here here.

I'm a little worried about my new med singular. It comes with a big warning about increasing depression and fear/paranoia because that is exactly what I need!!

My novella is out there and someone found it and loved it. Check it out here. Yes it's barely making a blip on the radar but it is a novella. I'm just happy that someone found it that fast and asked for a sequel. OMG everyone wants a sequel of this time. I'm going to have to deliver.

Blackboard is busy being a dick. It's now reading yet another test's answers as wrong because that's not anxiety inducing in my students (or in me) AND setting up last year's homeworks up for this year and every time I changed the date, it would say there's an error and I'd have to do it again. Every. Time. Die Blackboard, die.

Back to happy news, the Prodigal Son crew have two episodes of script in hand. Woot! I don't know how they're going to be doing this but they're one step closer.

And it was a good geek day because I got the Stands charity shirt with Crowley and Aziraphale on it (for Michael Sheen and Misha Collins' charity for the homeless, Super Good) and the two things I bought on Star Trek Day.

Also good the coworker I was subbing for is back and that freed me up to at least get some of my gradebooks made so I can start putting online grades into it.

And finally they fixed the a/c and now it's meat locker cold in my office. Better than the sweat box of the last two weeks

In the bad, I just can't with JK Rowling any more. Well I couldn't for a good few years now but now she's doubling down on her transphobia by having a transvestite serial killer in upcoming book. Yes, I'm sure that's happened in real life. Yes, frankly it's been done, it's the plot of one of my favorite movies SIlence of the Lambs (and even there it's problematic) but right now with all the transphobia and the killings of trans people, this is not the time for this book especially coming from a known TERF. Sigh.

Last night ended well. I got to get my tickets to hear Lou Diamond Phillips and Marcus Red Thunder talk about the Longmire character, Henry, (got the tickets here. they're cheap and go to charity) The one small silver lining to this forced stay at home is these virtual conferences are bringing things to people who normally couldn't get a chance to do this (like I ever would have sat on a zoom chat with LDP otherwise!)

I literally blew the dust off a book that fit my Popsugar challenge and read a chapter and went to bed at the normal time and...I think that dust was meth. I was WIRED. I didn't get to sleep until sometime between 430-5:00 am and only got 2 hours sleep.

I have dragged through this day but I got my insulin. I got my geeky masks (fun!) and I got my Blackboard more or less done and somehow got more online homeworks set up and...I'm pretty much done except for one thing for the semester. I'm not sure how I got anything done but I am exhausted now so have some fan fic recs and I'm going to try to go write.

It was only interested in me having weird dreams.

1. Weird dream #1, I woke up and slipped out of bed to find my left big toe blackened with gangrene. Nothing more than that. I woke up for real and I know what was behind this. My uncle is having his toe removed tomorrow. I can no longer feel the toe in the dream and the neuropathy is getting much much worse this year. I will most likely lose this toe in the future. Here's a middle finger to you, brain.

2. Weird dream #2, I can't remember all of this one either. Some times I was the older woman in the dream, sometimes I was watching it from the outside. All I know is she was a family annihilator. She killed her husband and all four of her children. Each died in a different way but I don't remember them all. I know one of them was crushed with the car. It was like something out of saw.

3. Weird Dream #3, this was the most detailed. ELD and I were living together again. The house was obviously some artist's home. It was filled with bold colors and there were sculptures built into the walls but it was also old and in need of repair. ELD and I were fighting over that. She argued the view was work it and it was. Huge picture windows overlooking the statue of Liberty (keep in mind neither of us has EVER said we want to live in NYC. I used to work there. I can tell you that I definitely do not want to live there.) We left the home still arguing as we walked the streets looking for something to do. I was also angry that I had left my job with nothing lined up which was insane at my age (not to mention living in NYC) and that I had done so because she asked me to (as if I would ever have listened to ELD about that). I don't remember anything more but I gave up sleeping after that.

And more from the fandom meme challenge

G: What was your first fandom? It's a tie between Star Wars and Star Trek. However, really the first one I interacted with other fans was Elfquest. I was hugely active in that for years from the mid-80s to the early 00s but it mostly died out in the late 90s for me.
cornerofmadness: Angel hugging his pig amidst rubble (Default)
More about that later. First

Prompt 7: Violet
Violet is a cheerful color that is associated with a variety of things including: originality, self-esteem, insight, poetry, discernment, understanding, creativity, music, perception, inhibition, and health.

Oh how I love all things violet, well purple. Blue, red, purple and black, those four are my favorite colors. Which is number one changes by day. I'm such a fan of purple. I have plenty of purple clothes (including scrub pants), purses and even my curtains are purple, well some of them --> and if you've been following along since the beginning you're probably thinking purple curtains and red couch? Not in the same room, relax.

Amethyst is one of my favorite stones, if you rummage thru my jewelry you'll find tons of it. Want to make me happy? Give me amethyst.

I'm thinking on purple in my fandoms. I don't have many that leap to mind. There was certainly a lot of purple lighting in the original Star Trek, that's one of the few things that I can think of. Oh and of course The Joker's jacket but I'm not a huge fan of him.

If I remember right, Britt used some violet washes in this fanvid. If not, have a fun fanvid any how

You'd think someone who had spent so much time at Comic-Con today I'd come up with more but nope. But that's the reason for today's title. I finally got to spend some time at Comic-Con, sure I miss the vendors and the cosplay but I do have to say I liked attending this way. Certainly cheaper. All the panels are being hosted on YouTube so I hope they're there permanently so I can see more.

I attended Keanu Reeves Constantine's 15th anniversary. I've only seen this movie once. I'm a huge Hellblazer fan and Keanu wasn't John. He just wasn't. That said, the movie wasn't a bad movie (just a bad adaptation). I should see it again. His love for this movie was infectious.

I sat in the Archer panel which mostly them talking about being drunk and not showering most of the shelter in place and somehow that seems right. I am looking forward to seeing S11 and Simon Pegg and Jamie Lee Curtis will have roles. neat. I sat in on Let's Get Spooky which I guess is a podcast but not that special.

I went to two writing panels. One on Master storytelling that I'll put in writerly ways tomorrow and perhaps one of the best I attended today one on Native American/Latinx authors. I got more people to follow on Twitter and there was some good stuff about representation and comic books and more that just sound like fun. Check it out

I plan to attend some Star Trek stuff tomorrow. And for the other part of the violet challenge have this What things are you able to offer others to bring a little sunshine into their lives?

Well I can write you drabbles. Drop me a simple prompt and I can give it a shot. My main fandoms at the moment are Prodigal Son, Lucifer, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Fullmetal Alchemist, Star Trek (any). I do a lot of anime, just ask.

And let's have more violet/purple stuff. flowers and me! )

I got this fandom meme from [profile] aeris44 it looked like fun and better than me droning on about nothing but work.

the questions )

I think most of my answers will pertain to Prodigal Son, Buffyverse, Fullmetal Alchemist & Lucifer with the first and last being my two latest and the m idle too some of my most active (though PSon has gone nuts).

A: Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed. In Prodigal Son, I enjoy the canon ships of JT and Tally Tarmel (even though it's very minor part of the story), Gil Arroyo/Jackie (even though it's 99% fan speculation) Gil Arroyo/Jessica Whitly and I adore Malcolm Bright and Edrisa Tanaka as friends but I am also very interested in the slow burn of Malcolm and Dani.

Buffyverse, I enjoyed SPike/Drusilla, Giles/Jenny, Lilah/Wes and non-canon ships of Connor/Dawn, Connor/Faith

Lucifer - Lucifer with either Chloe or Linda. I also really enjoy his friendship with Elle.

FMA - Roy/Riza was my OTP but I did like ROy/Maes, Maes/Gracia (and all 4 of them together) along with Ed/Winry

Green

Prompt 4: Green
Green is a rich color that is associated with a variety of things including: awakening, growth, renewal, productivity, intelligence, exuberance, prosperity, money, luck, envy, greed, survival, nature, spring, and birth.

This is a color I do really like. It's a color I look good in. I don't have much green IN my house but outside, oh outside is different. I am all about being in the woods. I love green. I'm not a desert person. I'm not even that much of a beach person. A lake in the woods? I'm there. I grew up a country mouse. Most of my life I've lived in the country. I want that to continue. I always want to have a swath of green around me. That was the best part of Ireland and Wales, how green they were. I transplanted some green today, a few small pines I hope to bonsai.

I love green stone, emeralds, Connamara marble, jade, tourmaline, malachite, the list goes on and on and I own jewelry made of all of them.

Green makes me think of my parents' home when I was a child. The stucco walls were green and silver and the shag carpet was green and gold. The couch was green. Mom had a lime green Bug. My first apartment post med school had sage green cabinets. (ah the 70s, and things stuck in the 70s)

Fandom wise, come on, Spock's blood, first to mind (probably always to mind) sure someone made a boo-boo, copper based blood (like a horseshoe crab) is powder blue but Star Trek made it green. My love for Spock is undying so have some green blood.

Beast Boy of the Teen Titans, the Hulk, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, oh there are so many green guys in fandom. To be honest, none of them are my faves, outside of Beast Boy. I don't know why I liked him so much. He was immature but I did really like him.

And since today was awful and my brain is jello let me just give you lots and lots of my favorite green things.

The day started rainy and grey and in the 60s. It could stay that way forever for all I care. That's my weather.

That was the highlight of the day.

I started working on Blackboard Ultra and it's not just a few changes to a system I've been using for 16 years. It's completely different. Ugh. Just what we all need with all this covid-19 shit. AND not everything is working as advertised so I'm going to have to contact IT.

I did finish my edits and my blurb and got stalled on the cover art specs.

I haven't written much in days. Haven't read much in weeks.

I don't know if Dad's internet is playing up or if I have some malware on my computer but there are connection issues.

There are some good things though. I finally finished watching Good Omens for the first time. Enjoyed it. Honestly enjoyed it more than the book.

I made funeral potatoes today. Mom didn't want me to mess up the kitchen so 'helped.' She dropped the sour cream. It exploded on the stove, the cabinet, the sink, the floor, the dishwasher, all over me from hair to ass probably ruining my favorite Star Trek t-shirt and she was also covered. It was like how is there this much sour cream in a jar? It was pretty funny though.

I did get the tickets to the chocolate walk. It'll rain but I'm getting my damn chocolate.

and now let me giggle about tonight's Prodigal Son. Spoilers to be sure ) And it's still too early for coherent thoughts on this. except for these spoilers ) Swear if they don't renew this show...

So tired. My sugar went over 300 last night, lost some of my vision had to take MORE insulin (well over 100 units) and it still barely touched it. 4 AM sugar crashed so I'm out here eating peanut butter and watching Deep Space Nine. So tired this morning I put my boots on the wrong feet and couldn't even figure out for a moment why they hurt.

In your own space, recommend a fannish or creative resource.

Honestly it's really AO3 because I'm not really that active other than writing/reading fanfic these days and not even that much until last year after years of slow down but I do have some places.

I have been using twitter a lot for Prodigal Son which is just weird to me but there you have it.

I've finally gotten the snow I hoped for all year, a wet one that sticks and looks pretty. I might get some shots of it if you know I can figure out where my camera went to when I rearranged this place for the plumbers. Yeah I have some in my tablet and my phone but the phone one doesn't take good ones and my tablet is full of books. Oops.

Snow now, gonna be EIGHTY by Thursday. In Ohio. In February. But fuck you Mr. President, there's no such thing as global warming.

I was talking to [personal profile] evil_little_dog last night about Yuri!On Ice and that I was thinking of buying it based on a) my love of figure skating b) I know no one who didn't like it. But I haven't seen it other than a clip or two. I get off the phone and RightStuf! emails me that it's now out of print, the limited edition version that is. Well that's only fifteen dollars more and it has extras like cards and what not. It's the one I wanted (and yes sometimes RIghtStuf! is very expensive but the non-limited edition is the same price there as it is on Amazon and Amazon doesn't have the limited edition). I wanted to use one of the stupid gift cards mom gave me but nope, couldn't make the website take it. Ah well. I bought it with my own money and the gift card can go buy the groceries then.

Here's hoping I actually like it.

I've made progress on my Lost novella but it's going to come down to the line again. I just know it.

Day 09 : Send feedback to two fannish people — they can be anyone you want: a writer who’s made you happy, a moderator of your favorite exchange, a fanartist you avidly follow… There are so many possibilities. Just let someone know you appreciate their work

I did this one better and read and gave feedback to everything offered up this year at [profile] 12_daysofficmas and I still need to do comment to at least a few people at [community profile] celebrate_fma

And for the fannish people looking at this [community profile] picfor1000 is still signing people up. It's a fun challenge. LJ not required.

I survived Day 1 with only minor hiccups which isn't saying much as I only have one class in the afternoon. Let's see if I survive Wed with back to back labs starting at o'dark hundred.

I was excited however on the way to work. I almost couldn't get out of my apartment and I thought it was the electric company which made me nervous but instead it was actually Frontier cable. Maybe I can get cable internet!!

Day 7: In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Since I'm prepping for the start of the semester, because I just did 12 straight days of fanficcing and because I've yet to share a single Christmas picture, I went with 'take some pictures.' I promise, they're fannish. (speaking of fannish and pictures, [community profile] picfor1000 is signing people up on LJ right now, not sure if they're mirrored on DW for their yearly challenge. I love it).

But if you DO want to read some of my fan fic that I just created, head here. Blinks....99 uses of my user tag in this comm? WHOA!

cornerofmadness: Angel hugging his pig amidst rubble (king)
Okay right off the bat, pictures will be another day (I didn't take too many anyhow) because a) camera won't talk to computer tonight b) tired as all hell.

I did have fun in spite of a variety of annoying things, like getting up in plenty of time and for some reason leaving nearly 2 hours later than planned. I have no idea. I fell thru a time slip, who knows? And sadly there is like nowhere to eat other than Hillbilly hot dog on the way down there and it was PACKED. I should have walked into the thai place as I was walking to the arena but I wanted to get there (and had to have a shitty giant pretzel for lunch) and the parking garage right across the street you need to get a ticket to be there all day but I could NOT figure out where you do that and I drove around 3 times. The other garage which I usually park in is two blocks away so it's not too bad.

I DO think my Shion Karanmori cosplay came off well as people recognized it and were excited to see it. It must be said that Tsu is a very small con (as in the entire dealers room could have fit along one wall at Animazement). That said they did bag a pretty big name in voice acting, Steven Blum (Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop among many others).

I will say that the vendors left a bit to be desired this time but I did get some cool stuff, like another graphic novel from a lady artist that I bought from last year and found a steampunk group that's right over in Parkersburg (about an hour from Athens so two hours from me) that does events that help pay for mammograms and pap smears for at risk women below the poverty level (which is a shit ton here in Appalachia) and it’s at Blennerhasset Island! and a few others. I do know that online sales is killing the dealer's room and that's half the reason I go to these cons (I might move this to every other year like I used to attend).

I really enjoyed the greatest graphic novels you should be reading panel run by a librarian whose job it is to be the graphic novel/manga librarian of her library. WHY did I never think of doing that? How great would that be? I totally need her to be a character in a story. She runs the carolina manga library and they do take donations (if you have some old manga you want to divest yourself of).

I picked up some things from sanzaki kojika and Miss Alaynious and I didn't buy from yatta creations but I loved the dragon eggs, priced more reasonably online (instead of covering con costs)

I found one t-shirt vendor that I got a Dr. Who shirt from but really wanted the Grell one but they were sold out of my size. And I did manage to get something for ELD. I believe I now have hoarded enough to cover this christmas, her birthday and half of next year's christmas (stop, just stop now) There was one vendor I nearly bought from. She made throw pillows using an industrial embroidery machine but each one takes hours to do. And she has an in with local furniture stores and gets the left over upholsteries as the backing for these pillows. I LOVED her Snape silouette with the 'always' quote but it was leather and 75$. I thought about getting a considerably less expensive one for ELD of FMA but then a) I pictured her couch b) pictured her dogs sleeping on the pillow c) pictured her dogs eating the pillow and decided she didn't need a 30$ pillow.

I had wanted to play pachinko but by the time I was done shopping (hey did I mention I bought sweet corn pocky? It really tastes like salty buttered corn) it was time to see Steven Blum. He was fantastic, very funny and very nice to the fans. By the time his talk was over (I'm not into VAs so I didn't wait in the line and pay for an autograph) it was well after 5 and by now I could feel my sugar deranging.

I headed out back to the mall. I kicked Macy's off the list as I can always go there. I hit my favorite Mexican place down there and got the volcanic rock pot again (and that stuff was SO hot, it was STILL hot when I got home two hours later with the left overs). I hit the Halloween shop and couldn't find ram's horns so I got a face decal and dragonfly wings for the Halloween party this coming weekend. I had a 25% off everything at Michaels and picked up shit I didn't need but looked pretty.

I also hit Booksamillion and got an Enterprise puzzle for Mom for the holidays and some manga. THey had two that I knew had to be Yaoi, Ten Count and Midnight Stranger by a new-to-me publisher SubLime Manga. They looked interesting but a) BAM is cheaper online so... and b) Yaoi is NOT my favorite because too many of them are dub-con/non con or fall in love with my rapist tropes. Anyone know anything about these?

And I put my pumpkin latte on the console so I wouldn't spill it getting into the car (as this mall's parking spots are TIGHT). i get in and knock it over and it doesn't just spill into the back wheel well, no it explodes all over the back seat. Well hell.

I do love driving home up R 2 in the dark. So spooky.

And about my cosplay, I had these things in mind a) I hate that blond wig b) I found my black pantyhose in the back of my sock drawer and I wish I knew where the hell I got them all those years ago because if all panty hose fit this well and were so light weight and unnoticable while wearing I wouldn't have loathed hose so much c) my skirt is so big it kept twisting around me. Hmmm have I lost weight?

And since I know I'm too tired to put this anywhere else in their actual documents, other writing things came to me on the drive. The manga librarian was praising The Ancient Magus's Bride (I love it) and how Chise is so broken. I thought that's exactly what I'm trying to get across with Luc. He offered up that's why he likes helping Amelia. It makes him feel less like a broken toy kicked to the back of the closet, unwanted and unloved. I NEED to work that into the story. Also it occured to me I should have left the Treasure Island scene and made this set around 2010 or something because Luc now has to be older than he is in the story because otherwise he's had been a tween when Hurricane Katrina hit. And the con love story tells me it could also be called ConQuest or ConQuered Yes they want to be cheesy as all hell.

Steven Blum talked about being part of hip-hop artist's Logic's Sci-Fi themed experimental album which you can find here (not really my thing)

cornerofmadness: Angel hugging his pig amidst rubble (Summer sucks)
So there was a kickoff talk for the 15th annual Mothman festival. I went with the chair of my dept, her friend and the Ochem professor. Actually the chair had won an 18" pizza, 2L of pop and a bag of chips from Giovanni's so we had that first and then went down to the talk.

Boy is this festival getting HUGE. They think that 8000 people will be here over the weekend. I plan to go back on SUnday. This is the first time they had anything on friday. The talk was your usual Bigfoot stuff (and honestly, not that good but they gave stuff out as gifts, didn't win any). 6 assholes sat in front of us. Okay three assholes and three people who were with them. They sat there mocking them the whole time. The other downside was it was hot as hell in that old theater.

We walked down the street to the historic Lowe hotel and the Mothman statue and to my shock all the stores were opened late for this AND the food vendors were out. We got lemonades and funnel cake and I wish to hell that my good camera wasn't home on the charger because my cell phone didn't do a good job. There was a full moon and I should have been able to get some very artful pictures (though I DO NOT have a good camera for moon shots).

And tonight the phone won't speak to my computer so photos will have to wait.

The faculty meeting went well and was frustrating at the same time. The changes to the biology program passed but on the other hand, our moron governor is making changes that are hurting people. There isn't any one involved in education on the committees he's using (all politicans and bankers) and Ohio is 40th out of 50 and they've inverted the payment structure with the state kicking in less than a third and the rest is all on the student vs the exact opposite just 8 years ago. I DO need to start looking to get out of Ohio.

My parents had a busy day. They're still traveling. I'm VERY disappointed in them as they are in Tonopah NV and did NOT stay at the Clown motel. Anyhow they were waiting for the restaurant in the hotel in Lake Tahoe to open when a young man in a hoodie entered it. They thought he was an employee but instead he tried to rob it. He got away from the female security guard and Dad body slammed him. The hotel comped their breakfast and their room for the night in return.

Also yay, BBC America has put original Star Trek on their friday night line up. I watched Is THere in Truth No Beauty and realized that the jealous blind scientist in that episode is the same actress who played Dr. Pulaski on StTNG. I never knew that.

Also I think I know why I've been feeling so shitty all week. Feels like one of those ovarian cysts burst today.

Happy 50th Star Trek, my first fandom love that I love unflaggingly to today. You have made such an impact on my life and that subject line is one of the reasons. Yes people have taken pot shots at you for your utopian airs (which I would argue because there was a shit-ton of strife on the show) but I LOVED that you showed me a future where men and women were equal, that the color of your skin or your faith/culture was the equal of anyone else's. You gave us the first interracial kiss, the first lesbian kiss (granted neither were really what we would have wanted them to be but you had censors to fight).

My tree house was the Starship Enterprise (and the other tree house was the ship from Lost in Space so I was doomed to SF geekery from a very early age). My parents loved that I loved you.

My first Hollywood crushes were Spock and Sulu (Sorry, Bill, but Kirk wasn't my type. You just weren't as sexy to me as Leonard and George). This crush lasted well I'll let you know when it's over. My middle school locker was covered with Star Trek pictures (which got me beaten up emotionally and spat on in reality, assholes).

You helped to create the adult I am now. I hope still to create characters as wonderful as yours.

Love you always.

Here's to another 50 years together.

and oh, if this treacle wasn't enough for you, I split my thoughts and posted half of them on Jana's blog here

and have some articles: USA today’s collection of articles.

Happy Mother's day to all the Mom's out there and hugs to those making it through this weekend without yours.

I spent the day at Rathacon which I have to say was a let down except in some key ways. I think part of the problem is they have no venue earlier in April but doing this over mother's day weekend is rather dumb, especially when you consider ALL THREE colleges in the area are over with by now. Your key demographic is gone so you only have locals. The vendors were even smaller than last year too. I did buy another comic book off one young woman who did a transgendered one last year. And I got two pendants from someone who uses bottle caps for them. Mine has a picture of Darth Vader and I got one of Spock's Hand for mom (but I might turn it into a book mark for her).

Only a few of my steampunk group was here today (everyone was there yesterday). That was nice. It was fun talking to them and they were the the best part of the thing because they let me play. THere was a TARDIS there (made by Boba Fett who is one of the theater guys at Ohio Uni.) and they did a whole photoshoot with me.

AND I got to go pet Toothless. I'll be honest he's why I went. I figured it would be slow as hell on Mother's Day. In some ways I feel bad for the guy. He IS the guy who made Toothless as a model for Dreamworks and he is such a nice guy but it seems like a waste of his time to be at such a tiny venue (though he was here last year and knew what he was getting into). He also did a photoshoot for me (probably a relief after dealing with whiney kids and entitled Moms all day, that or he felt sorry for the lone adult geek).

A new comic book store opening this summer in Cincinnati was there and they had the free comic books so I got mine! I picked up a steampunk one and something called Awake and then the Suicide Squad tie in.

Also got to speak to an indie director about his upcoming SF/Horror (Picardo from ST:Voyager is in it) and he took my name as a Jana so that was fun.

Tomorrow I drive to Cincinnati to see Maggie Stiefvater. I'll be spending the night since it is a 2 1/2 hour drive and the book signing is at night. I wouldn't get home til nearly midnight and I-32 is a very lonely road at the best of times. Also I have to be in Columbus early tuesday morning and Cinci is closer to Columbus than here. I found a Red Roof Inn that tripadvisor said was clean and only 60$. The other two cheapo places were rated piss poor on tripadvisor.

And really everywhere else was 130-230$ a night. Is it any wonder people no longer travel like they used to? I would have taken the lonely highway before I paid that much money for the night (or just driven to Columbus and stayed there, probably at the hotel I need to be at for my student's research presentation).

Literally everyone loved the hat mom and I made. That made me smile so much.

See the hat here )

And this tops off a very geeky day.

I was approached by a student today and he picked me as his professor for the student athlete/faculty appreciation night. He said he loved my teaching and my help made him switch into aiming for physical therapy instead of coaching. I'll be honored with the rest of the chosen ones next tuesday (sadly at a basketball game but I will survive). I'm really honored. It's the first time a student really went out there to acknowledge my impact on their studies in front of the school. I'm very happy.

Also unexpected, all three of the books I put on hold at the library came in today. Thanks...kinda. You couldn't come in one at a time? The last time I put a Brandon Sanderson on hold it took 6 weeks. Sigh. I better read fast AND one of the ones I won from goodreads also got here today.

Also in the made smile category, S2 of Agent Carter is even better than the first. mild spoilers and a crazy thought )

My Co-worker and I were so happy to hear we have live specimens in the mail today because we thought Carolina sent us our missing bacteria. Nope, glass separators. Um Carolina, glass is NOT alive. Sigh. Where is our bacteria? We needed it last week. Gah.

Sad news at work, another friend is leaving to take a new job but I can't blame her.

Other than that a slow boring day but I did mostly want to say I really enjoyed the premiere of Agent Carter with a few niggling points.

spoilers )
