Happy 50th Star Trek, my first fandom love that I love unflaggingly to today. You have made such an impact on my life and that subject line is one of the reasons. Yes people have taken pot shots at you for your utopian airs (which I would argue because there was a shit-ton of strife on the show) but I LOVED that you showed me a future where men and women were equal, that the color of your skin or your faith/culture was the equal of anyone else's. You gave us the first interracial kiss, the first lesbian kiss (granted neither were really what we would have wanted them to be but you had censors to fight).

My tree house was the Starship Enterprise (and the other tree house was the ship from Lost in Space so I was doomed to SF geekery from a very early age). My parents loved that I loved you.

My first Hollywood crushes were Spock and Sulu (Sorry, Bill, but Kirk wasn't my type. You just weren't as sexy to me as Leonard and George). This crush lasted well I'll let you know when it's over. My middle school locker was covered with Star Trek pictures (which got me beaten up emotionally and spat on in reality, assholes).

You helped to create the adult I am now. I hope still to create characters as wonderful as yours.

ahh Star Trek - I was introduced to it in my teens. My dad absolutely loved it the moment he watched it. And being a teenager, you aren't supposed to like what your dad does and so I always rolled my eyes. Dad would also make comments while we pigged out on Beverly Hills 90210 and all that, what crap we were watching and hoped we would latch on to Star Trek, lol... And yet, for the reasons you shared the show was amazing!! I guess I became a closet fan... It's funny, I didn't watch it but know a lot of the dialogue listening to it from my room, while dad watched!

I'm odd. I've always liked the shows my parents do (It was comic books they didn't get, though years later I found out Mom used to sneak my X-Men)

It is. I have caught up!

Surprisingly, in everything else - music, art, especially books - my parents had a great influence - in that I liked pretty much everything they liked. I guess I couldn't find anyone my age to watch and enjoy it with? no idea... I did miss out!

There is that. I spent most of high school as an outsider because I was far more interested in SF/Fantasy than General Hospital and the Guiding Light (if you wanted to be in the In Crowd, you watched those)
