A little bit about me

I guess it's high time to make a sticky post.

On a personal note, I'm a very science oriented person (she/her). I was a foot/ankle surgeon until an injury ended that. Now I'm a biomedical professor in a small college. I've been writing in fandoms since 1977 and active in group fandoms since the early 80s with Elfquest and Pern back in the paper zine days.

If I had to pick my latest fandom right now (2024) it would be The Owl House and Hazbin Hotel. That along with Prodigal Son, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel the series and Fullmetal Alchemist make up the bulk of my AO3/FFN offerings. They're the ones I write meatier stories for.

I've done smaller stories, flash fic and drabbles in SO MANY fandoms, Star Trek (my forever fandom) of all flavors, Star Wars, The X-Files, Lucifer, Doctor Who, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, and a crap ton of anime especially Saiyuki, D. Gray-Man and Blue Exorcist among others.

I write from PG to explicit, het, LGBT, poly, vanilla through BDSM. I write some dark stuff as well but that's what tags are for, right?

In addition to fandom, I write original fiction and have been published professionally for over a decade now. I write LGBT under one pen name and have started branching out into YA and other things under a different name. I write mostly SF/F, urban fantasy, steampunk and horror. I would love to write mysteries but my concentration is off for that right now. I'm always on the look out for alpha and beta readers (and happily will do exchanges or if you're in the mood to be part of a low pressure critique group that exchanges once every six weeks, PM me). I do a writing post every sunday (usually)

I'm big into history/historical traveling, gardening, hiking (currently on hold hopefully not forever after destroying my knee) and cooking. I'm sure there's probably more that could go here but this is a good introduction to me.

Blanket transformative works policy Anything of mine on AO3/FFN (under this same user name) need you to ask me to use it. Often I am thrilled to say yes but please NO feeding it into any of the AI things out there please. You want to podfic it? Great. Make art for it, love you forever. Moodboard it, yay. Make a play list? go for it. Feed it into AI, nope. Just ask, I'm easy to work with. Also I'm planning to dip my toe into Squidgeworld too this year as a place for my fiction.

Hopping over from the Snowflake Challenge link. Love that you write LGBTQ works professionally. I've done some LGBTQ writing for NaNo but haven't started the rewriting part yet.

What's the most interesting historical site you've been to? And what's on your wish list of places to see?

I'm a big fan of Prodigal Son too. Hated to see it not get picked up for a new season. I may have seen your name when I was more active in the BTVS community- I still write for it, just not as often as I had.

Cool. Yes I used to write for Dreamspinner until their not-paying us hijinks. I'm writing with Nine Star press at the moment among a few others. Ive been slowing down a bit, trying to phase into YA. (what I've been publishing is definitely adult)

The neolithic sites in Wales are the most interesting I've seen in person, Pentre Ifan, Bryn Celli Ddu, St Lythan's. The castles in Wales and the Tower of London too. Gettysburg Here in my home state is pretty cool too.

Yes I think I've seen your user name around too. Fans are still trying (probably in vain) Prodigal Son but yes feel free to friend me as well. I'd love to see your Pson fan fic. I also noodle around in the Buffyverse too from time to time. I did a lot back in the day. I have a crap ton of Pson fan fic (same user name over on AO3)

Hi, I'm here from the Sunshine Challenge!

So, funny story, I assumed you were a trans man around my age just because of your Owl House icon (and the type of social circles I usually find myself in, I suppose). Reading that you're a person with she/her pronouns who's been in fandom since the late 70s made me have to do a brain reset lol. It's always fun running into someone in fandom with a totally different background than what I'm used to. You seem like overall a cool person, so I think I'll stick around. :3

Ha, no worries. Yeah that's the fun thing about fandom all the takes on characters. I know Hunter is depicted as trans sometimes (I find him a delightful bi disaster, one of many in my fannish mansion). That said I have a lot of trans people in my life and try to be a good ally.

Yeah I've been around in fandoms forever (I'm in my 50s just for the record). I'm very good at yammering on forever too. So welcome aboard.

Hello and welcome. Yeah while I wrote star trek before EQ, the latter was really my introduction to fandom back in the 80s. I can't recommend The Owl House enough (still bitter at its cancellation) That's Eda (the Owl Lady) in my icon.

I saw a lot of grief online when the show was cancelled. It was clearly very popular so canceling it was such a weird move - but a lot of Big Media's actions make little sense 😑 Will definitely check out The Owl House still!

Disney admitted it was a mistake when they saw some 20K show up for panels at Comicon this past year. Honestly I think with the current political battles with Disney, they decided to cut their most LGBTQ rep show (or at least that played part of why it was cut and that there is very little merch for it)

Urgh, yeah, Disney and so many other companies utterly kneecap shows/media that are queer in any way (or have a female lead, or a lead that's a person of color, etc). They could be making so much more money if they just supported these shows better, but apparently bad politics trump even greed...

That and the fear of being sued into non-existence I suspect because the protagonist, Luz (see icon) is a bilingual Latinx bisexual 13 year old. Her in-show girlfriend is (as far as we know) a lesbian, her best friend Willow is a pan girl (whose dads are a gay couple and her end of show boyfriend is bi) And Eda (the other icon I had) ends up with a non-binary lover and her sister is asexual (and we're left wondering about Luz and Willow's friend Gus who may be as well).

And all of it (and racial differences) are all normalized and accepted so I'm almost shocked they were able to put out 2 and half seasons without someone painting a target on Disney for i

Sad to hear yet more proof that society as a whole continues to be a mess when it comes to these sorts of things, but also glad we got as much as we did, at least. Looking forward to checking it out!

I've watched a bit of Owl House and a bit of Hazbin Hotel. I do plan on watching the rest of those again in the future. And same goes with Buffy! That was a show I remember sort of growing up with. I read some of the books that followed along with the show as a teen. And a final note of Fullmetal Alchemist is another good series! I'd like to watch brotherhood someday. The manga looks good, too. I may try to find that and read it someday as well.
