I think my brain broke last night

It was only interested in me having weird dreams.

1. Weird dream #1, I woke up and slipped out of bed to find my left big toe blackened with gangrene. Nothing more than that. I woke up for real and I know what was behind this. My uncle is having his toe removed tomorrow. I can no longer feel the toe in the dream and the neuropathy is getting much much worse this year. I will most likely lose this toe in the future. Here's a middle finger to you, brain.

2. Weird dream #2, I can't remember all of this one either. Some times I was the older woman in the dream, sometimes I was watching it from the outside. All I know is she was a family annihilator. She killed her husband and all four of her children. Each died in a different way but I don't remember them all. I know one of them was crushed with the car. It was like something out of saw.

3. Weird Dream #3, this was the most detailed. ELD and I were living together again. The house was obviously some artist's home. It was filled with bold colors and there were sculptures built into the walls but it was also old and in need of repair. ELD and I were fighting over that. She argued the view was work it and it was. Huge picture windows overlooking the statue of Liberty (keep in mind neither of us has EVER said we want to live in NYC. I used to work there. I can tell you that I definitely do not want to live there.) We left the home still arguing as we walked the streets looking for something to do. I was also angry that I had left my job with nothing lined up which was insane at my age (not to mention living in NYC) and that I had done so because she asked me to (as if I would ever have listened to ELD about that). I don't remember anything more but I gave up sleeping after that.

G: What was your first fandom? It's a tie between Star Wars and Star Trek. However, really the first one I interacted with other fans was Elfquest. I was hugely active in that for years from the mid-80s to the early 00s but it mostly died out in the late 90s for me.

Oh wow, I used to be WAY into Elfquest, but it was before I got on the internet, so my only "fandom" was a friend who owned a bunch of the books and let me borrow the ones I hadn't read.

Cool. Oh definitely EQ was in the paper zine days of fandom for me too. Really I started getting online around 96 barely and really online by 98 and that's about when EQ started dying off as a new different form of fandom took over.

But I was SUPER active in the 80s and early 90s. I used to pen pal with SO many fans back then and was in dozens of holts with stories everywhere. Right now btw here and LJ I have a half dozen friends I met back in those days that I'm still friends with and another half dozen I still talk to on twitter/facebook/email.

ELD I mentioned in the dream (evil_little_Dog) is one of them and I HAVE lived with her in the past when I had to go back to school after losing my surgical career and another fandom friend let me stay with him my first teaching assignment which paid so little. Fandom has been good to me in that way.

I was just a bit too young to do zine fandom, I think. I got on the net in 96 too, but that was my first year in college, and before that I had no idea broad fandom existed. Small town life, man.

I hear you. Small town most of my life. I was in h.s. in the 80s so I was just the right age for it. The way I got into it was strictly because EQ had an official fan zine that advertised in the comics. That zine allowed the actual fan-run zines to advertise in them and that's how I found true fandom (I did have the same thing in the official Star Trek and Star wars zines but I was younger, junior high and literally elementary school and I was SO young I was shut out by the older fans)
