I think I'm going to keep going to book club because every other month we're having free themed reads vs us all reading one book. Next up summer beach read. I already have the perfect book, a choose your own adventure summer slasher book. Can't wait.

Today was a day where our department might have been too honest with the outside reviewer but maybe having an outsider repeat what we're saying are problems will sink in.

Spoke to my shit insurance about my dex com. Oh yes just send it to the pharmacy. we use them. 3 hours later CVS texts me to say they require authorization. So much for that. Your rep literally LIED to me on the phone. I hate this insurance.

Have the Friday 50 Fan rec (I did not write this week. I've been only working on the novel which is a good thing)

Oh that sounds like a good idea for a book club: Free Themed Reads.

Does it mean there is a theme of the month, such as the 'summer beach read' and everyone chooses a different book?

That would be less restrictive for people wouldn't it.

That is such a good idea. And alternating would please people who like a variety.

When I've been in book clubs, I often don't like every single book they select and miss out the meetings. Having a choice sounds much better.

Thanks for the info! 😊

That is exactly how it is! Book clubs like to read important/pretentious books and show how cultured they are, or something.

I haven't got the energy for that, I like shorter books. That's another idea isn't it- novella length books. Who has time and energy to read really long books these days?

I could start a themed, short length book club!

haha, that sounds like a good idea to break off from a pretentious club!

Yes, I think short books are popular now due to people's time constraints and shortening attention spans. That's good for authors! And some of the most famous stories are novellas, anyway. The Time Machine, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, A Christmas Carol, Animal Farm, Death in Venice, Brokeback Mountain...

I really love the Time Machine, it is so prescient about human life...

I don't know, my local library is miles away. I'd have to hold it in the village community centre. I would say 'no phones please, we'll just talk in person.'

Oh mine isn’t so far as yours then. You sound more normal and sociable than me though, I never leave the house unless it’s an emergency. So I suspect me running a book club and talking to other people is a pipe dream 😜

Yes, I had people facing jobs for decades til I got pregnant and became too ill to work full time, pregnancy broke my body. It’s a very long time since I was in a big group of people interacting, I find it hard to even hold a conversation now. But I've accepted now that my life is just like this—alone and isolated, there’s no point fighting it.

I would probably do a group online IF I ever did one.

Thanks, I've always struggled physically and pregnancy was the last straw. I gave up going out of the home about 6 years ago, my health is much better if I stay indoors.

Yes I'm pretty lucky in that way. I'd rather be healthy and strong, living an exciting life but it could be worse.
