Buffy S5 – Missing Mom
It was all the little absences that hurt and nothing could fill them up, not having Willow and Tara staying over. Not having Xander and Anya popping over for dinner, there were just so many places she should have been and wasn’t. Buffy didn’t know she could miss anyone this much. Neither she nor Dawn were ready to go into Mom’s room and give all her clothes to Goodwill, to divvy up her jewelry, to remove the last remaining vestiges of Joyce’s life. No Mom putting on make up in the morning, no shoulder to lean on at night. Buffy ached.
Connor – Post Series – Holes in his Life
He was probably the only person in the world who could have three fathers and still feel the ache of having a male figure absent from his life. Connor wanted to count Holtz. He taught him how to fight, to survive, but he killed everything innocent and gentle inside of Connor’s young heart. Lawrence, well he felt like a dad but when Connor thought about how it was all fake, he felt the absence keenly. Angel, the one who should have been there, wanted to be there and when he had the chance, wasn’t there. One day he’d forgive them all.
