overwhelmed
Feb. 3rd, 2010 11:32 pmi could stop the post right there. Work is insane. I haven't been getting out until hours after I'm technically done. and i'm still not getting anything done.
Grading makes me weep. I went off on the nursing class today. These people have to write nursing notes which are legal documents. They CAN NOT look like they were written by 5th graders. They misspelled words like recruit, begin & shorten. I told them if a doctor saw this in a hospital s/he would remove their heads (and frankly shit down the neck).
Welsh is of Klingon extraction. I'm pretty sure of it. I can now count to 10 (minus #6 since it's not really a word, it's just a joke)

Well, possibly not "recruit", but "begin" and "shorten" when given IN CONTEXT on a spelling test with sentences and then even in free writing.
I took language arts VERY seriously as if I did NOTHING else for them it was to make sure they could read and write. (I had a LOT of catchup to play after their third grade "experience".)

Date: 2010-02-04 03:51 pm (UTC)I was told though spelling is no longer part of teh curriculum around here. they use something called...monomorphics? it sounds like a form of phonetics. whatever it is, it's obviously failing

Date: 2010-02-04 05:53 pm (UTC)I'd have students "inventively spell" during rough drafts and with YOUNG children would explain, "Miss B can understand what you say, but some grown ups aren't that smart. This is how they spell it."
And spelling tests/list... they follow SPELLING convention rules.
I bet the homophones are KILLING you.
Bless you for not killing them.
AND can't they see they need to pursue excellence or at least AVERAGE for the safety of their patients?
