those funny names
Mar. 27th, 2010 12:06 amIt occurs to me that the boys WILL need to have last names if I am to give them a longer story. Naming things is hard. At least I have behind the surnames. Here's what I've got so far
Temple...sorry my boy but you're French.
Allard - from the given name Æðelred.
Bellerose - From a French place name which meant "beautiful rose".
Bonheur - From the French word bonheur, which means "good luck". See also Bonner.
Chevalier - Derived from chevalier, a nickname for "knight." Chevalier comes from cheval, the French word for "horse", ultimately from the Latin caballus.
(Frankly Temple, your dad hates you enough to name you Temple Chevalier, temple knight of the knights templar...just a tool)
Delacroix - In French it means "of the cross". It denoted one who lived near a cross symbol, or near a crossroads. (granted i'll be confusing you in my head with
wildrider's character
Fontaine - Derived from old French fontane "well". It was probably a nickname for a person living by a well. This is the 18th most common last name in France.
Lachance Means "chance, luck" in French. (okay not for serious here, but Temple Lachance does sound like a porno name)
LeBeau - "the handome one" from French le "the", beau "beautiful", "handsome". (well I like Gambit...i could probably remember this one)
Caleb, at least Welsh is a little easier.
Argall - Means "dweller in a quiet place" from the Welsh Argol.
Davies -Variant of Davis.
Evans - Derived from the given name Evan. (okay it's one of the top surnames in Wales but I'd feel weird using it)
Jones - Derived from the given name Jon (John). (sadly this might make the most sense. Caleb is adopted. He might have been given a bland name upon adoption by the order)
Maddox -Derived from the given name Madoc. (has some style)
Pryce - variant of Price.
Rhydderch - From the first name Rhydderch. A famous bearer of this name is harpist Llio Rhydderch. HOW do you say this? Okay RH is pronounced Hr-er-th-er-hairball noise.
Agni...sadly behind the surnames does a poor job on those from India so I had to search around and pull names from people I know as well
Kumar
Gulati
Gupta
Sharma
Kapoor
Bhatia
Agrawal
Chopra
Krishnamurthy
Galapatti
Channarayapatra (just kidding, i'd never be able to spell this the same twice)
