I did think I wanted to work on the living goddess story for nano this year.

So up pop two more ideas.

1) young female character lead, fantasy setting, fairly low tech (or maybe 1800's setting, unsure), queen is amassing the world's largest library with the idea that knowledge is power (sort of like the Library of Alexanderia), the girl is one of the book procurers. downside, i think there was something similiar on SyFy

2) a few centuries ago, a young man was killed and brought back via magic both forbidden and now current day forgotten. However someone is bringing it back. Undead boy gets introduced to the female lead, one of the elite (what sort of elite, i do not know), to try and stop someone from reviving the spell. THey're aided by her arranged marriage fiance (who actually IS in love with her)

do either even sound interesting?

I was disappointed I couldn't do NaNo last year because I was done TD, but I was burnt out. I thought, "By next year, the first draft will be almost all written".

But now I'm thinking there will be at least 50,000 words left in November, LOL. And by then I might even have an idea what to write for them.

Both! I think #2 has a slight lead, though.

I like both! The second one seems a bit more developed, you've got some interesting conflict going on. I particularly like the idea that the fiance is working with them and does actually love her, which makes for a messier situation with more twists and turns than if he was just a bad guy.

They both sound interesting but I think I like the flavor of the second story best.

thank you very much. I do know that fiance is sort of a decent guy and that she likes him and accepted that yeah arranged marriages are how it's done. He is going to get very badly hurt I know that much

what sort of magic she might have i do not know

i'm certainly going to file the ideas for both in my original fiction dream file

Yes, that sounds really interesting! Arranged marriages aren't always forced marriages, and there's lots of scope in there for a writer for complex and interesting human situations. And I personally always like love triangles where there is no bad guy - just three decent people in danger of making each other miserable. Interesting, messy and true to life.

sounds like a plan. I usually go into nano with something started. I just don't count the stuff that's already been done. Helps to have a plan

yes exactly. She would think nothing of her marriage being arranged since they all are. She's happy enough that he's a decent dude. Of course it's real messy here since the other guy in question is technically dead.

And I don't understand love triangles where one of them is an obvious jackass because really why would you love him

Exactly - and to say that there's no romantic love involved in arranged marriages is a bit simplistic too. I hope you write this, I'm more and more fascinated with the situation these poor guys are going to find themselves in.

Well, if the jackass is the other man/woman, they're a devilish yet irresistable seducer. And if it's the partner (usually the guy), it's because their spouse is cowed by their brutal ways, a la Billy Zane and Kate Winslet in Titanic (guess whether I liked this film or not? XD).

Yeah, I can't imagine going into it cold, with just an outline, or an idea. Sometimes, the best ideas come in a panicked rush, but usually you just write to keep pushing forward and it's all crap.

that's true I've heard of arranged marriages that had quite a big deal of love

it's looking like people really like this idea. Let's see if i can noodle it into a plot of some sort

hmmm i don't even remember that in titanic but i only saw it once nad it bored me to sleep so...

true i shouldn't underestimate the consumate seducer

I really like the second idea. It opens up so many possibilities.

that one really seems like a winner. I've started a name search...not going so hot. I suck at naming
