So I watched D. Gray-man, Ghost Hunt & FMA Brotherhood this weekend. Two of the voice actors are in all three of them, Travis Willingham & Todd Haberkorn. After hearing the latter as Allen Walker & Yao Ling I was thinking he might have been like a friend from my college theatre days, utterly unable to act straight. Everything he did had the queeny lisp. So I found myself comparing the VA's thru the three series.
Haberkorn - Allen Walker sounds far too whiney, lispy and frankly flat and emotionless. I didn't care for him here at all. Then I heard him as Ling. Holy hell, Ling sounds like he should be dressing for a Drag race. It's cringeworthy. He can at least act a little here. I ended up looking Haberkorn up since people seemed to know and actually like him and found out he did Kazuya Shibuya (the lead in Ghost Hunt). WTF? No lisp to be heard. He actually acts. He has arrogant know it all down cold. So...he can act. He doesn't always sound like he's heading to Gay Day in Disney so why in the hell is he pulling that crap for Ling and Allen? Ugh.
Willingham - I loved the timber of his voice in the first anime but I'll be the first to admit half the time he sounded like he's reading off a cue card. Half the time in FMA he STILL sounds like he's just reading it and other times he is acting (I wonder what's up with that). Still, I will admit that rich deep voice is forever what Roy sounds like to me. Moving on to D. Gray-man, he's Kanda. At first I didn't recognize him. My only thought was Kanda is under 18 I believe. No way he should have such a deep and obviously mature voice. Then I realized it was Travis. Sadly, this is his stiffest work among the three. Kanda only growls and yells. (granted Kanda is a pissy dude but still) Ghost HUnt...what is it about Ghost Hunt that brings out the best in them? He plays my favorite character Houshou Takigawa (Monk-san) and he's acting almost always. very rarely does he sound like he's reading it.
Ah well, just wanted to get that off my chest.
Do if you scrolled past in search of Denver pictures here you are.

Date: 2010-06-14 04:21 am (UTC)However, as usual with side characters, it seems, Komui and the rest of the science department have great voice actors. XD The murderous rage I felt at hearing someone yell "KoMUi!" every ten seconds was quenched by Komui's actual appearance. XD Whoever that guy is, he does a great job~

Date: 2010-06-14 06:35 am (UTC)Great photos! I like the cool crap. Helen and I have a little collection of old medicine bottles and things. My favourite is the liquid paraffin that people used to drink as a health tonic (antique shop lady: my mum drank a teaspoonful every day and she lived to 90!).
Colorado looks wonderful. I've never been but I'd love to.
