I got the classes dealt with but couldn't handle the dept. meeting. I also had to run to Jackson to get my birth control pills which are used more to treat my poly cystic ovarian issues than for you know birth control. The price was 69.69. I laughed because I'm mentally 12 then thought hmmm, if it really was a 69 I probably wouldn't need the pills....

other than that my day was a blur. Nearly passed out on a student that's when i decided might want to go the hell home. Laid on the couch for hours, grading things and watching The Haunting in connecticut (which I liked) and the Fluke man eppy of THe X-Files

this really put me behind on my writing. waah.

Photobucket

Turns out I never went up this road in like 4 1/2 years because everyone said, 'nothing out there.' went up a bit and saw some scary trailers and never went up til this summer. Returned this week and found out there's the Vega Church at the top of the hill. huh.

Sorry to hear you're still sick! I would join you in giggling like a twelve year old only I was too busy going D: at the price. We pay a standard price of $10 for any prescription, and I am often shocked at the cost of the more expensive meds when people who live in other countries tell me. Helen's twin stocks up big time when she's over here. Of course Helen knows the cost of different stuffs.

Lovely. :) I love old churches. The trees and dreary sky make it look creepy, though. That makes the photo much better.

My condolences on being ill. *Hands you a blanket and soup*

LOL The 69.69 would have made me laugh too cause I'm just that easily amused.

Hope you feel better.

That picture is kind of neat. I like the steeple on that church. And of course my insane imagination makes me go 'I wonder if it's haunted'. I'm such a dork.

haha i know right, 69.69

i'm still feeling blah but i don't think it's infectious. it's part of my stomach issues complicated by mr. migraine.

haha it looks a little haunted. i've never been in it

it is a neat little church. That is one thing OH has a lot of, very interesting little rural churchs in the middle of nowhere.

thanks. n ot feeling better but pretty sure not infectious either

if American really wanted to do something, they'd step on the damn phamaceutical companies. even the AMA has tried because this interfers with what we can realistically prescribe. However, within another week it'll all be free for me.

Well, big pharma isn't exactly well-behaved over here. They love to take the doctors to lunch, lecture them about how great their drug is, and shower them with freebies. Same in the States? Helen loves to chomp the lunches, snag the freebies and then ignore the lecture.

Is that the deductible kicking in? I'm ashamed to say I have no idea how private health insurance works either, because most people just stick to the NHS here. Europeans are annoying?

Date: 2011-02-10 06:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yes they do the same here in the states. they used to give away BIG gifts and the doctors themselves said NO MORE. Our patients can't afford the cost inflation to do this bullshit.

yeah met the deductible. heck if i DID have our gov run health care i wouldn't even be allowed to have the pills I'm taking (I used to be a gov. doc for the VA. I fear how America would run something like the NHS. then again I saw so many NHS patients here...)

Date: 2011-02-10 07:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bob_fish.livejournal.com
It's bad.

Because they're very cost-led? Helen and I are obviously biased on the subject of the NHS. It's not perfect by any means but we like it. Also, they pays mah wife money.

The kitties tell me they are also in favour because it pays for their food. The kitties' appreciation for their food will undoubtedly wane when they realise we're having steaks.

Date: 2011-02-10 07:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
well yes, you have definite reasons to be biased toward it. I usually ended up with the people who aged out of coverage or just got damn tired of waiting (mostly canadians of course)

what? kitties don't like steak

Date: 2011-02-10 07:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bob_fish.livejournal.com
No, kitties have no interest in steak. I gave them some restaurant leftovers after mine and Helen's anniversary steakhouse trip, and they were actually purring while eating. It was quite incredible.

Our kitties love it. Moro climbed on the table when we were serving up and tried to grab it off Helen's fork. She's a cheeky one.

I emailed you the heaven and hell story, btw. Mostly just catching the odd typo.

I envy your church. We used to have a couple of nice, old churches here, but the church arsonist burned them down years ago. All we're left with are the concrete-block/brick faced modern replacements. Bah.

There was some kind of "jelly" that people in British novels were always taking to sick people. I would send you some, but (a) I have no idea what kind of jelly they mean and (b) it would arrive as a solid block of ice anyway. I'll just send you warm and fuzzy thoughts instead. It's safer. (I suspect "invalid's jelly" is some form of pigs' feet or something similarly nasty. I'm going to Google it, because now I'm curious.)

Hope you feel better...

as i mentioned above, OH has tons of these things. Sorry yours are gone.

oh god, it probably is. what did you discover

Date: 2011-02-11 03:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silvrethorn.livejournal.com
Invalids' jelly is what's left over when you boil (seasoned, thank God) mutton shanks and beef together for several hours, strain the liquid and let it congeal. It can be heated or eaten cold, which... Victorian invalids must have been made of tougher stuff than we are, is all I have to say. Cold, congealed mutton "jelly" is more than I could stomach on my best day, never mind if I was sick. (Thank you Mrs. Beeton for the recipe.)

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
i would projectile vomit that. just saying. then maybe hang myself to avoid it

Date: 2011-02-11 04:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silvrethorn.livejournal.com
Maybe it tastes better than it sounds? I dunno. I don't think I could get past the texture, even if it tasted great.

Next research question: What, exactly, is aspic? I probably don't want to know this any more than I wanted to know about invalids' jelly, but I'm going to look it up anyway.

Date: 2011-02-11 04:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silvrethorn.livejournal.com
Just as I feared, aspic and invalids' jelly are pretty much the same thing.

Date: 2011-02-11 04:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah i think i sort of knew that since granny had aspic molds

Date: 2011-02-11 04:40 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
texture is a big deal for me

no you probably don't

Date: 2011-02-11 10:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silvrethorn.livejournal.com
Did Granny ever make aspic, or did she just end up with some molds? Aspic was a big deal in the 1950's, so maybe she used them back in the day.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
we were using them for jell-o in the 70's but i think she made salmon aspic in the one
