that no one is perfect on their first try and that I've been immobile for a long time as far as exercise is concern. Why do I expect myself to be perfect the first time I try something then get so frustrated I don't want to continue. Sigh. But I AM continuing the best I can. Now to figure out where the hell I put my tai chi dvd. I KNOW I have one. I can't find it.

My brother is in the hospital post op. Says he's out of pain for the first time in 6 months. Let's see how this goes.

I'm so frustrated right now. It's not enough that LJ is having issues but my broadband is too. it's timing out not only LJ but facebook, twitter and my emails. I have no idea what the issues are now other than verizon sucks.

Soul had such a grand time in the tub tonight. He flung water everywhere. I need to get in the tub in my swimsuit and record this. ALso I forgot to mention but I woke up a couple days ago to this noise. I listened. It was a pounding sound. I went into the bathroom and Kanda was pounding Soul's head off the toilet. I just left them to it.

I need need need to get my big bang edited tonight. Just [livejournal.com profile] evil_littl_dog's (happy birthday!) edits. I'll have to wait to post it around for ME to have time to look at it myself. Oddly the artist most in contact with me through this is currently the only one I haven't heard back from yet.

Day Thirteen: Favorite female character in a book

Photobucket This cover is from the 1930's

Photobucket This is the cover I read from the 60's.

Nancy Drew. I loved her. People say there were no good female characters back in the day and that isn't true, at least not in the mystery genre. We've always had great female characters. Nancy has been with me since I've been 6 years old. I loved her then, love her now. Yes, she might be a rich elitist but my god, look at when she was written. The 1930's? We're lucky there was a girl character smart enough to on her own. What I would like to see are the original 1930's stories. The stories were gutted out in the 1950's to remove some of the racism (well I wouldn't be too keen on that but again, 1930's, it's what you'd expect sadly) but she was also made into a Mcarthy era docile girl. There is a very interesting wiki about all of this. the 1950's, still held up as the golden era (I suppose if you're a white male...) actually was less tolerant of a smart woman than the 1930's. Yes, Nancy is pure wish fulfillment but I still love her anyhow.

now you see why I don't like to be too alone here. This path is straight down hill and lands IN the lake. With broken bones if you fall. I might go back this weekend

Stick with the exercise even if you aren't perfect. It's worth doing and you will get better at it. This is difficult for me sometimes as well. I get frustrated when I am not able to do something right. Be proud of yourself for trying.

Ugh. I've had the net problems plus the LJ problems before. It does make you want to bang your head against things.

I'm glad to hear your brother is reporting good news!

Exercise is hard, but you definitely shouldn't get down on yourself or give up! Just take very small steps. ^^

Wow, I didn't know that about the Nancy Drew series! I'm tempted to go searching for older copies now, if any are even available. Yes, racism is bad, but that's no reason to edit an old book. It's a historical artifact, basically. Editing it doesn't change the past. *boo, censorship!*

That path looks so fun.

I knew the Nancy Drew books were old but not that old. That's cool. Wonder if Mom read them when she was younger? I'll have to ask.

I'm glad J is doing better - at least not being in pain. Was there anything said about why they didn't do the operation earlier?

Exercise is GOOD. And stop being such an A++++ personality and just do it. :P

thanks. it's also frustrating because i USED to be able to do this with such ease but it's been a decade and it's like I never did it in my life.

yes it does

I'm sometimes the same way about doing things right or not at all. It's really hard to be humble enough to do things anyway, particularly when it's something that involves coordination and grace, like dancing. I do try to work on this.

You just made me pull out my one Nancy Drew hardcover ... it's a 1969 print. My grandmother had it in her attic and gave it to me years ago, and your post made me wonder if mine was pre-edit or not. It's the Invisible Intruder, and I did quite enjoy it. :D

It's very cool. I know some of the kids' books I read are older, as well, from around that time period. Mostly the animal books, of course.

If you find out, I'd be curious to know the reasoning.

Because you just started, goofy.

Um, I think we all know who hid the exercise DVD (meow).

Definately fight through those first few weeks. The diet is not going great, but the working out, now that I`m back into it has been good. In fact, I haven`t worked out in 4 or 5 days and my back is starting to hurt....

am so glad there is a little good news about your brother.

i just devoured Nancy drew books as a girl. Interesting factiod though..

I understand getting frustrated at the beginning too. Bob Harper does these split lunge things on my work out that I just have to stand back and shake my head at. Everything else I finally got but those... it'll take a long while.

I'm glad your brother is at least momentarily out of pain.

Internet troubles drive me up the wall when they happen too. It's like if you pay for a service, it should work.

Man, I used to love the Nancy Drew novels. I haven't read those in forever. She's a good character.

And that last photo is gorgeous. I love scenic photography like that. Our Earth really has it's beautiful spots.

Have a good day today.

with my knees, split lunges ain't happening but yeah I know what you mean. That's why i am for the beginners dvds and get irritated when sometimes they are NOT beginners.

thanks

oh verizon blows. it never works.

I haven't read them in forever either but I did love them.

Indeed it does. this is just about 15 miles from me.

thanks you too
