one of the young chemists got the Edwin Jones award tonight, which is an award the faculty vote on. JW really deserves it. He's brought in over 1.5 million in grant money alone, he's a good teacher and a good guy. I like him a lot. AND he sprung for Merry Family Winery wine. Whee. I had autumn black (one of my favorites) which I noticed was the exact shade of my nail polish and once i noticed I couldn't stop noticing (granted I HAD drunk a bottle of this stuff by then).

The dinner sort of sucked but it was from our cafeteria so we expected that. Other than that, it was a really nice banquet and I got to talk to some faculty I rarely get to see. He also called on me and a few others to stand and be thanked for all our work with him. Wasn't expecting that.

Came out to find out our sun had set and the black rain clouds had returned. Sigh. I really hope all my friends in the midwest and the south, especially my Alabama friends, are safe.

when you read mysteries, it's easy to have a list of female authors you admire. I chose my first real love. Okay Carolyn Keene was the first but she's not quite real... Agatha Christie's books were so good. I just loved them. I read them as a young teen and I think I'm going to start rereading them as an adult. Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot so wonderful characters

HOLY CRAP! Wasn't that originally just a creek???

Well...I'm alright...my cousin down in West Plains is alright...still have yet to hear from my cousin down in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and I'm growing increasingly worried. She's dropped off the familial radar, and several cousins are freaking out about it. I'm going to see if my cell will get a strong enough signal in a minute, and I'll call...hopefully will get through.

I have to agree with you on Agatha Christie - LOVE her stuff - So glad I discovered her later in life, so I could really appreciate her work.
