“Ouch, Winry, damn it.” Ed squirmed on the examine table, his boxers sliding up.

Winry slapped his thigh. “Ed, sit still and hush. You’re going to wake the baby. It took forever to get him down for his nap and I have a whole list of patients to see besides you.”

Ed’s eyes flicked toward the door. Beyond it was Betsy, Winry’s receptionist and oft-time babysitter. Little Zach was sleeping in the office in the little cage Alphonse had transmuted for him with a soft cushiony bottom and four net walls. It had become so popular with the ladies in the office Ed and Al had drawn up a patent for it. Al suggested play pen instead of ‘baby cage’ for the marketing name.

At any rate, he doubted that his son could have heard him. He looked down his leg at his wife. “What the hell are you doing to the port, Winry? That hurts!”

“That’s my question to you. What did you do to your leg, Edward? I’m going to have to replace the port.”

“There was an incident in the desert. You know I was helping Mustang with some of the reconstruction there.” Ed sighed.

“Every time you help Mustang something bad happens.” Winry smirked. “I’m not going to let you play with him any more, young man.”

“Please. Forbid me!”

Winry slapped his thigh lightly this time. “You are my worst patient ever.”

“I’m your best patient ever. I keep you in practice.”

“Yes, but you no longer pay me.”

Ed hitched himself up, stroking her shoulder. “Oh, I can pay you,” he said in a bedroom voice he was still trying to master.

She snorted. “I’ll get a sitter and we’ll try out that book Al brought from Xing.” Winry glanced at his automail. “After you recover from this. Try not to break it in less than a month.”

“No promises especially since I think I’m going to like my new repayment plan.” Ed’s grin could have lit up the sky.
