“Sssh, it’s okay. You’re all right,” Roy stammered out, in that uncomfortable state of still half asleep but suddenly jolted with adrenaline. He cradled Riza in his arms as she swallowed air in deep rending gasps. He kissed her forehead. “It was just a dream.”
Trembling fingers brushed the scar on her neck. “I’m so sorry. No one’s supposed to know.”
He cast a glance at the curtains over the window. Yes, no one was supposed to know she often stayed the night with him but no one who really mattered cared. She could retire tomorrow and marry him and that would make him happy. She still felt she needed to take care of him. “I don’t care.”
Her hand quested for his. “I dreamt about the knife again.” Her fingers squeezed his. “I wasn’t as brave. I was dying and I wanted you to help but you couldn’t.”
Roy pulled her tighter against him. “It was just a dream. You are always brave.” No, he was the one terrified of losing her. Only her strength had stopped him from using the human transformation. He kissed her. “Some days I wish we were young again, back in your father’s house with the only nightmares we had to worry about were his deadly dull tutorials on how to dry clothing so he could put me to work.”
She laughed softly. “We’ll never be that innocent again but it’s a nice dream.”
“Unlike the ones we usually get,” He said as Riza rested her head against his shoulder. Feeling her breath curling against his skin, Roy added, “They didn’t beat us, that’s what matters. Nightmares fade. What we have doesn’t.”

Riza was away at school most of the day, leaving a void in the Hawkeye household that Roy was left to fill. Master Hawkeye couldn’t afford servants to maintain his big house but much of Roy’s initial alchemy tutorials had been in simple things like repelling dust and sublimating water out of clothing so there was no need of a dryer.
That was the job he was working through now but things had changed since those early days. Panties were no longer those embarrassing things his Mom and his ‘sisters’ hung on the line like silk and lace flags. Panties held mysteries, contained fevered fantasies about the intimate and very forbidden flesh they contained. Master Hawkeye had been very clear about that. If Roy tried anything with Riza, her father would show him how pinpoint accurate his flame alchemy was, leaving no doubt what his target would be.
Rolling the petal pink panties around in his palm, Roy dallied at his task, his body reacting to the mental image of an older, more endowed Riza, until he heard someone clear their throat. He pressed his hand and the panties to the array he’d drawn, drying them.
“Just what do you think you’re doing? Riza asked.
Roy knew there was no way to hide anything. “Um, laundry?”
She crossed her arms. “Someone needs a lesson in not being perverted.”

Berthold looked around his home. It practically sparkled. Everything was picked up and the first floor smelled of spicy roast beef. Riza was busy setting the table. “What happened to this place?”
“Roy was being helpful.”
The looks exchanged between her and his exhausted-looking apprentice baffled him. Berthold shrugged. “Looks good. You have to go out tonight and collect dew for an elixir, Mustang. Try not to fall asleep.”
Roy whimpered.
Riza smirked.
