The librarians stopped me today, wanting suggestions on what to get in the way of manga. I think of one on the way home naturally. I'm reading ones too violent/adult for their tastes. they're looking for a) stuff for the younger kids b) stuff for the mid-teens to older teens that aren't ultraviolents like Deadman Wonderland or Dogs: Bullets & Carnage.

Here's what they have - Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Ranma 1/2, Shaman King, Basara, DragonballZ, Kare Kano, Ceres, Fushi Yugi, Zodiac PI, Ruroni Kenshin, Hot Gimmick, FMA, OHSHC, Hellsing, Vampire KNight,Bleach, Cherry Juice, Tokyo Mew Mew,Naruto, School Rumble, Tokyo Tribes, President Dad, Graviation, Nausicca, Emma,One Piece, Deathnote, Soul Eater, Tramps Like Us, B. Ichi, Dragon Hunter, Girl Got Game, Usagi Yojimbo, Dragon Knights.

I did think of Hero Tales (the one Arakawa is illoing) after I left. It has the added benefit of being only a few volumes long. Thanks

One of my friends said they switched from AES student loans to Sallie Mae. I'm going to have to ask why. I just found out why they don't think i've paid them. they're saying my bank info is wrong. I looked it. It ain't. they are total fucktards.

I'm on a minor roll writing wise. Watch it stop as soon as I get serious about camp nano.

Speaking of writing, want to watch me NOT read your story, bash other pairings or suggest we just don't get your ship and we should. Just write your ship and enjoy it. You don't need to bash others to do this. You don't need to insinuate there is something wrong with others when they don't see it your way (naturally I see this more with non-canon pairings). I love canon pairings but not always (witness Buffy/Spike or Connor/Cordy), I think Spike was best with Dru and wished they wouldn't have gone that route but they did and hell Spike's interactions with Dawn were his most human IMO so I wouldn't have had that if they hadn't gone that route and if I want to write Dawn/Spike I should be able to do that without needing to say another word about it. I love Roy/Riza but I also like Roy/Olivia and Roy/Maes and feel no need to justify it beyond putting what pairing it is in the pairing slot on my story info. I don't get people who feel the need to suggest we're not giving them a fair shake by not looking or that we don't get it (sometimes implied that the author doesn't get it either or hell sometimes flat out stated that way). Ah fandom, you have always been and shall always be crazy.

And on the fandom note [livejournal.com profile] springkink is open for prompts. must restrain self from going nuts

Harry Potter Tribute i like this and speaking of Harry here's an interesting look at writing an opening chapter view through a Potter lens (not sure I agree with some of attributes she assigns) Harry Potter and writing

One of the guys at work came into the office yesterday to show me pictures of the either (a) koi or (b) bass pond he dug on his property that's 65' x 75' x 6' deep. *whiiine* I love this little fountain, but you know I've always wanted running water on my property.

I agree with the bashing, and particularly the thing about the creator not knowing what s/he is doing. That really ticks me off. If someone puts that on fanfic of anything I write and publish that's original, I think I'll be saying, "Hey, I know what I'm doing, STFU." (Oh, I have high dreams, don't I?)

What about DramaCon for manga? It's cute and only four issues long. and if they like graphic novels, in manga size, Strangers in Paradise is gorgeous.

Curious, is the reasons for the pairing bashing rant because of something FMA related, since you mention Roy/Riza, Roy/Olivier, and Roy/Maes? If so, something tells me I ACTUALLY might have an idea of the group of people you're talking about. :O But yeah, also total agreement with you on the pairing bashing thing. For instance, I love Ed/Winry and Ling/Lan Fan, but I like Ed/Ling a lot too.

Oh man, springkink. I actually want to write out a couple prompts from last round, but with ladyfest and slashfest going on, don't think I can. D: LOL, watch me turn one of the summer round springkink prompts into a long story while doing FMA Big Bang at the same time like I did last year.

Love the garden! Very pretty. :D

you and me both.

At one point both Whedon and Rowling did just that

that's a thought, thank you and it's not too adult. they do some graphic novels, I'd suggest the sandman ones too

fandom in general. I'm still vaguely active in Buffy (see other part of the rant) where ten years after the show is over we're still fighting and naturally this is Harry Potter week but FMA is certainly not immune to this either

I don't think the writing for springkink starts just yet but I could be wrong. it'll surely conflict with something.it always does

isn't it pretty?

Okay, gotcha. Yeah, there seemed to be bashing over the FMA pairings a lot, oi.

The summer round of springkink you don't start until August, but you can still go and write prompts from the winter round until September if I remember correctly.

All those stone lanterns and that little waterfall--they're breaking my heart. I can't even get a concrete lantern, never mind a stone one (I did see some granite ones at the Spring Festival at Kanapaha one year, but they weren't remotely affordable, never mind the logistical nightmare of getting something that heavy all the way home in the trunk of a Honda Civic). The way it's raining right now I could probably grow moss, too. Or algae--that looks like moss, right? If you ignore the slime?

My sisters think I'm nuts for wanting my running water. Mostly because of the cost of any property with a stream on it, obviously.

I'm not surprised, of course, Joss says a lot of things.

Mmm, Sandman! That's good one. SiP is sort of borderline teen/adult. I mean, there's violence, but it's mostly off-screen; there's the ongoing relatinship between Katchoo and Francine and David as the eternal triangle....

well yes

well yes Joss does

Sandman is being reprinted too. Sip is it still being printed?

I can occasionally find the little stone lanterns under 100$ but they're usually resin and die in the sun.

I think there might be a little algae in the picture. you could make it work

it definitely seems to be a pervasive problem in fandom. I also go nuts when I see the story itself bashing a pairing just to make their pairing look good. seriously the people you're reading already like pairing X/Y, they don't need justification

I'm not sure. they have a new mod but i'm not sure if the stuff has been changed at all

Hello! I know evil_little_dog, and she was showing me your post with the pretty garden picture.

Anyways, I have manga suggestions that might help.

Alice Academy, Kodocha, Angelic Layer, Chibi Vampire, Escaflowne, A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, Aria...

Man those are rather girly. Boys like stuff like Prince of Tennis, Slam Dunk, Eyeshield 21..

Anyway, um, hi ^^

There's a cement store in Kentucky where there's some pretty neat stuff for cheap. I nearly bought you the silhouette of a Roman-style horse's head there, then realized there was no way I could afford to ship it. I can't remember if they have Japanese inspired stuff, but there're tons of things to look at there.

Tell the library to get Chobits - it's an interesting story with lovely art that is best for older teens. ...Oh, and D.Gray-man, all the way.

And HEAR, HEAR about the judgemental shippers. Just write your ship and enjoy it. You don't need to bash others to do this. I applaud you. I have unfortunately been entangled in these things as well - not just about pairings, either, but about individual characters. Winry, for example. If you think she's useless and weak and stereotypically feminine, be quiet instead of being attacked by Winry fanboys and EdWin shippers. I try not to do any attacking myself.

how the hell could i forget d. gray-man? Just about anything by clamp should be safe (I don't like them much but I'm a minority)

exactly,if you don't like a character go write meta about it and we who DO like them shall ignore it. Sadly it's just not FMA. I try to avoid it if i can. i might not always be as unbiased as I think

All our concrete statue stores have closed. The only place you can get concrete yard tchotskes around here anymore is estate sales, when some old person dies and the kids don't want the concrete Mexican and his burro with the planter panniers. I'd love to shop the "stone garden" in KY. Maybe next year when we go to BreyerFest (snort).

Resin. Bah. The possums would knock it over.

Where there's water, there's algae. There's just not supposed to be algae on top of stuff in lieu of moss. For some odd reason, people find that unattractive.

Lavi is disappointed in you.

I stay away from most CLAMP manga - they're much more popular in Japan than here anyway. (I mean, more than other manga. *laughs*) Kind of shoujo-y for my tastes.

Other fandoms aside *coughFireflycough*, I think I have more FMA bias than I'd like to admit. I've been in the fandom pretty much since it started, and so people who claim to be "huge fans" because they think the boys are cute make me mad. I have to mentally slap myself and stay away from the keyboard when I see that.

It's on the other side of the commonwealth from Lexington, but there are a lot of neat things there. My sister got me a sleeping Schnauzer piece that's about eight inches long for about $8.00, if not less. Currently, it lives at Mom's, as I don't have a good place in my garden for it.

Twin Spica is a beautiful series, but then my father was in the space program and I have always been fascinated by the program and space itself. They made an anime of it back around the time I was in college or shortly thereafter. The series was only 20 episodes and didn't have a real conclusion became the manga was like 16 or so volumes long in length. It was years later than it was finally released in the states and so far, eight volumes are out. I have volumes 7 and 8 on order from B&N and I hope to pick them up next weekend.

The series follows 13-year-old Asumi Kamogawa who is attempting to become part of the first freshmen class of a new space-oriented high school.

Japan is preparing to restart its space program years after a (fictional) disaster destroyed its first manned shuttle launch, killing hundreds of civilians.

Helping her is Lion-san, a ghost who wears a lion mascot head and has a connection to the original disaster.

Each volume follows her attempting to enter and then work her way through the school with her new friends, but usually contain one or two chapters that delve into Asumi's past, revealing the events that shaped her desire to go to the stars.

I wanted to dig a stream in my back yard. My plan was to dig a trench from the top right corner to the bottom left, with a little pond at the bottom by the patio and to run a line back up to the top so the water from the pond could be sucked back up the little incine to the top again, then line it with rocks to cover up the line, and make a nice babbling brook noise as it flowed naturally down the yard into the pond again. Would ahve been so nice. Alas, I used my back yard almost not at all because of the fact I had no back door. Who would build a house with a back yard and no back door? And turn the steps from the side door onto the driveway AWAY from the back yard? Ugh.

that is some poor house planning. My brother's room now has the back door as the original back door was sealed over to make a closet and to allow for the addition of a master bath for the parents.they quickly learned no one wanted to walk around the freaking house
