since I'm in a poor frame of mind and don't want to a million posts anyhow.

I'm on that plateau still. sigh. No recipes but how about some health stuff I found. Eat almonds. But they have fat and calories you say. Well true. In fact an ounce has @ 100-200 calories depending BUT the fat is a good fat. Study after study is showing that it helps to lower not only blood pressure but also bad cholesterol BETTER than the statins (i.e. lipitor) without the side effects. In a study in Spain with over 9000 subjects (which makes it pretty robust) almonds helped people either not gain weight or actually lose it. So eat that handful of almonds daily. (note - it probably doesn't work so well with those delicious toffee coated ones, just saying.

I spoke to my brother for the last time before he goes into surgery on tuesday. He's trying not to cry so then of course I'm trying not to cry. We're trying to focus (and get him to as well) on the things the removal of his colon will get him vs what he'll lose. 1 - no more pain (the pain has taken his blood pressure up to stroke/heart attack range more than once) 2 - being able to leave his damn house. He hasn't had a vacation in the last three years. He wanted to come here for the Mothman festival but can't even drive that far since there aren't enough reliable rest stops 3 - be able to pick up weight and get to eat more things. I told him all of you were thinking about him which made him feel better. HIs friend, an international pilot is bringing him back holy water from Paris which made me smile that he has a friend who thinks that much of him to use his Parisian stop over to go pray and bring that back (regardless of what I think of organized religion my brother is very Christian).

All I've done all day is work on lectures but I did step into the headquarters of ultimate evil (i.e. Walmart) to get some miracle gro since Big Lots didn't have it. Picked up a bucket of Peppermint and one of oregano and frankly now that I think about the price wasn't THAT reduced. But once again my credit card didn't work at wal-mart. I thought well maybe they moved up the pay date and I'm late. I just paid tonight. They hadn't so now i have to call them. sigh. it's probably wal-mart's fault. this will be the third time at that wal-mart.

This hedge in the Japanese garden had been groomed with a peek hole.

And this is what you see when peer thru.

My trouble with almonds is stopping at the single handful! But yes, super good for you.

I managed to keep off what I lost last week, but nothing more lost.

I'm thinking good thoughts for your brother and so is my sister. I hope his surgery goes well.

That garden just keeps getting lovelier.

My heart and thoughts are with you and your brother.

Agreed on health things. I'm so relieved my sister is here this week, even though currently I'm "at Tranquility Base". ;) She's hopefully enjoying my room and my bed. It's a hovel, but the best hovel in the hoard.

That peephole is magic. I love it.

You work on being happy, healthy and maintaining. As long as there is no gain right now and you're feeling better? It's all good.

Spain is EPIC for food. EPIC! Now I can rationalize my Marcona Almond obsession. If I do those with moderate amounts of gorgeous dark chocolate, is that ok? It's the super dark "bitter" kind.

I'm guessing "Toronne" has no health benefit? Since it's a lovely nougat confection that contains a LOT of Marcona almonds?;)

I'll have to check out the bulk area at Giant to get some almonds. I used to be on Simvastatin (sp?) but then they discovered that it causes muscle deterioration, so my doctor switched me to Lipitor. Which has it's own issues over a long period of time and I want to avoid that.

If I can eat almonds (which I like to eat anyway) to get my choloesterol down, then I can get off the Lipitor.

thank you very much.

good luck to your sister.

I'm thinking most of my arm and not my weight. I could open the mail box today withmy left hand instead of having to put the car in park and turning to get it with my right. WHEE.

Spainis. Marcona almonds aren't found here. i have to drive 50 miles to Athens to snag those bad boys. Dark chocolate is healthy. go for it.

OMG someone who knows what toronne is. that was my childhood favorite b ut only trottedout at Easter. love it
