Remember me saying that I have great coworkers for the most part? Two of them went with me to the Renn Fest and we had a blast. TH and I went together since he lives south of me. EB and her friend, D met us there. TH and I have been here a lot and knew all the shows by heart so mostly we wanted to shop. I think EB & D might have been a bit bored by that but they seemed to like the shows.
I did get two pieces of jewelry for myself, from my two usual vendors, a set of earrings in a pyramid shape cut thru with moons and stars and a silver tree of life set with amber. Itty bitty bits but in all three shades. I somehow got sucked in to buying very expensive soap (which I do on occasion) but also lotion bars. As I get older my skin on my hands is getting cranky. I got one for mom and my SiL. They supposedly last a year and they DO feel good.
We went into one of the new vendors and TH and EB both bought mugs. They were beautiful some of the best looking ceramic glazes I’ve ever seen. As I was looking at the layout, TH comes up behind me and says ‘Choose wisely, Dana’ then gets bright eyed and points. “That is the cup of a carpenter.” And sure enough it looked straight out of an Indy movie (the artist said that was his inspiration). I was going to but spent too much elsewhere. We also went into another tea and soap place, joking that we needed the memory tea and EB said she needed to buy the serenity tea for school of science meetings (she’s the chair. She also wanted the t-shirt that said don’t make me go medieval on you.) and the lady making the soaps was on of TH’s first students! She remembered him from the early 90’s. What are the chances of that?
I did get other things for Mom and something little for
evil_little_dog. I was going to get a few more things but honestly I forgot about it (thank god for my wallet’s sake). It had dragon stuff but on the other hand it was the same stuff Toscano had. Speaking of stuff that was not hand made, I did get a lovely Moroccan inspired multi colored glass lantern from the Wayward Gypsy. Mom loves glass and I thought she’d like this. When I got it home, however, I found out it was made in china. I was more than a little disappointed. I like going to vendors to support artists, not mass product from China. Still, it wasn’t hideously expensive and I hope Mom likes it (I did snip that tag off. I’ll tell her I got it at the fest).
I also saw a cute knitted lamb hat that I thought
rain_oubliette would like but other than it being rather spendy (I do like the artist. She’s always fun to talk to) I figured Rain might like the pattern better (but that wasn’t available). I did get the bread bowl for lunch but they no longer the broccoli soup so I ended up with mac and cheese. Predictably my sugar is out of sight but it was tasty (I MISS mac and cheese).
I got a small henna tatt this time, a drake. But I accidentally smudged its wing (pouts) and it was gloriously cool so it didn’t set as well as it should. It’s going to be faint and fade fast. Sigh. It was also the pipes and drum/kilt day. WOOT. Love me men in kilts (not to mention I like bagpipes).
Funny thing for the day, EB, D and TH wanted funnel cakes. I shared one with TH but the QUEEN tried to line jump me. You might be the queen of the fest but don’t get between me and my fried pastry of doom. We chatted a bit. That was fun (she had cute ‘guards’).
On the way home, I somehow managed to snap a finger nail off into the quick and it was bleeding all over but that was the only down note for the day. I’m really glad TH came. He’s working hard with a new class like me and his dad, whom he was really close with, passed this summer. He needed to have some fun.
TH in the stocks
The face they wanted me to make at being tied up.
The face that would probably go with me being voluntarily chained
Wow look a picture of me that's actually PRETTY

Date: 2012-10-07 01:59 pm (UTC)Yes, I agree, you do look good in blue. And your hair was behaving itself! :D Nice pictures.
Yeah, I'd hate to go to a Renn faire when I'm expecting original works and be sold something from China.
Oooooo, the cup of a carpenter. OOooooo. You know how I am with my ceramics.
It's cold here today, too, so we'll see about that henna I want to get.

Date: 2012-10-07 03:14 pm (UTC)I have a lot of Rennie friends. I never have "dressed up" the whole way. Ours was in the summer. TOO MANY CLOTHES. So I'd go with my faerie nature. XD Flowy skirts and tank tops, ftw. Sticking to the shade, etc etc.

Date: 2012-10-07 06:53 pm (UTC)Blue is a good color on me (you mean my wig was behaving itself and it wasn't. I had to keep fussing with it)
Yeah it was a let down. I mean the one booth for the kids with the stuff toscano sells was obviously NOT hand made but they made out like the lanterns were.
you'd die at OH's renn fest. it's a plethora of ceramic

Date: 2012-10-07 06:55 pm (UTC)it's a very nice faire except there are NO permanent toilets. I loathe that portapotty system
I need to send you a pattern from one of my steampunk venues. I wonder if it's easy enough for me to do.
you would have had fun
