It barely counts. I only have one class on Monday. That's right I work for one freaking hour (two if you count my office hour). That's nuts. Okay every other Monday I have to stay late for meetings but man, it's hard to roll out of bed for that.

Other than that it was the usual students flying around with problems that you get every first day of school. I swear math should put up a neon sign saying math class rooms over here. That's all I did all day was direct students to math classes.

I did make an eye apt for Friday. The infected eye is still blurry. I'm not sure if it's the eye, diabetes or the fact that I bent the fuck out of my glasses (It is blurrier with them than the contacts). I figure I have all this money in my HSA I'm going to use it. (won't take me long)

I need to make an apt for my stomach. It would be more convienent to make it at Holzer but one doc blew me off, another told me 'you can take tums you know,' (and he was a dick when I had an endoscopy with him six years ago too) and while I heard the third is good I might go to Chillicothe anyhow. get out of that whole practice. Everything I eat makes me nauseous. Mint tea and ginger aren't cutting it.

Hey I need your help! Seriously, I'm looking for input on dystopias. click here and talk to me about it. Also coming up, publications by friends later this week. I'll post about that too.

I had more to say but my memory is being a slippery fish.

I am doing that 365 days to less clutter meme, I decided. If anyone on my flist should do this, it's ME. I will be making note of it along with the whys of it (why did I keep it, why am I tossing it) mostly because I'm trying to identify patterns in my hoarding (not because I think anyone BUT me is interested in this)

Day 1 recycled one Cardboard box why kept - Perfect to mail a gift in why tossed -2 years never used it

Hee to the 365 days to less clutter and the box. I know that feeling.

Answered about the dystopia already.

I'm currently there with my thin clothes. A) If I get rid of them, I'm saying I'm basically giving up, or B) I can't lose the damned weight, so why am I keeping all these clothes I can't wear?

I'm sorry you feel bad right now. Definitely get a different doctor.
And I am fascinated by hoarders! I wouldn't classify you as a hoarder just someone who needs help organizing. I will be reading your hoarder diary with great interest I promise!

Oh I did that too. I suddenly DO fit into the slimmer jeans and now have more jeans than is sensible but I won't give up the fatter ones because what if I gain again??

yeah this is not new to me. I've been doctoring this stomach since childhood (I've been on meds since I was 13) so no need to put up with a doc I don't like

Oh if you saw my place you might feel differently. (though I don't keep garbage, like dirty dishes, pizza boxes etc)

and did you see the little birthday ficlet I wrote you?

OMG no I didn't see it!! I'll go hunt it up!

And you're right without seeing your place I couldn't say for sure, but from the few caturday pics I've seen, it just looks like a busy person with no space to organize. I'm good at decluttering/organizing, my dad and grandma were both hoarders and I did not inherit that gene. If I lived closer I'd help out!

the no space thing is really an issue for me. I have too much crap for a little apt.

Mom likes to declutter. I admit it, a non-cluttered room makes me anxious

Makes you anxious likely because the issues underlying why you like to clutter in the first place. That in itself is what makes you a hoarder, according to TLC and the hoarder shows. It's not that you have a problem with cleanliness or neatness but something about a filled space calms and soothes an emotional problem.

I'm not gonna stand on my soapbox and preach or anything, that's just how the show's doctors explain the why of hoarding. For example, my grandma hoarded because everyone she loved dearly left her- her parents, her husband, eventually one of her kids. things can't leave unless you make them leave. With my dad, he hoards because he thinks everything has monetary value and if he really got in a pinch he could sell it off. thing is he NEVER sells any of it. My sister and I are going to have a trailer full of crap no one wants when he passes on. My stepmother- every memento is attached to a memory and a person. to throw the item away is like throwing the memory and the person away. My mother-in-law as like that too.

For what it's worth, and I know we're not super close friends, but you seem pretty level headed to me with a tendency to stretch yourself past your limits with volunteering and such. Super busy and no space. Maybe some clear plastic tubs could help you out (and help with some pre-packing for when you finally get your dream house!)

*christ I wrote a book... SORRY!!!*

my grandmother did the hoarding to sell things, ditto my aunt. The other aunt goes to St Vincent De Paul's to buy crap all the time.

MUCH of my issue is pure laziness. I am lazy. Some of this stuff is still here because I don't take 30 seconds to walk it to the trash.

I do have plenty of tubs (oh god the tubs). Much of it is books but honestly I'm at the age now that I no longer keep every book in the house (that last move damn near killed me) but I have SO many books even I can't read them all fast enough before I buy more. That was my new year's resolution last year (failed) and this year. NO getting out a library book until I read three of the ones I own and get them out of here.

lol I understand the lazy thing. I don't have a lot of space in my house, so I don't have much room to clutter up. But you should see my desk XD Pig sty for sure.

Aww, I have so many bibliophile friends. I love to read, but if I can't get it on my phone I don't read it. I've been trying to get through book 1 of Game of Thrones for almost a year. I'm on page 178 -___-

Now, I DID get rid of all my fat clothes when I initially lost the weight -- the weird thing is I have ended up inbetween (I went from sizes 18-22 down to 8-10, and now am wearing 12-14...)

my weight has been so stable for so long in spite of much medical intervention that I don't dare give away the fat clothes just yet. Sadly.

apropos of nothing, just posted a blogathon you might be interested in

snort. I hear you

sadly I can't read on line. It makes my eyeballs swell up then it's weeks of pain and drops to get the inflammation out. If it's not on paper I rarely read it

I signed up for it, although I'm not sure how to approach some of the prompts, since my world is pretty close to the "real" world (with some historical differences).

I once toyed with the notion of some serious historical differences, but decided it would take to much research (like, in my world, Oswald missed JFK; stuff like that).

yes with alternative real world histories that would be harder. I decided based on my other committments that I would do the one that was easier. i.e. it had vastly different histories etc. In the steampunk, it's more a murder mystery and none of the other stuff are important in it but in the fantasy religion and politics are underpinnings of the whole plot

I suppose I could do my Steampunk world, but it's not as well-developed in my head, I just know a few little spots here and there. That's the world I wanted to touch on having Henry VIII and Anne Boylen's son live (the miscarriage) and how that would seriously impact history.

Sorry. Getting enough dystopia in the real world lately. [livejournal.com profile] rahirah's mom said she thought the world would go to hell in 500 years. Five hundred? Hah! I'm counting on overpopulation, food shortages, income inequity, and climate change to cause problems within this century.

But then, I'm in a cruddy mood. Someone feed me a Reese's peanut butter cup or something.

yeah they're not my favorite type of book either (but money makers, go figure).

Way I see it people were bitching about the exact same things we bitch about today carved into clay in 2000 BC, this is the world's status quo

It's another one where research keeps getting in my way, of course -- I'm trying to figure out what would have happened in European history if Elizabeth never came to the throne!

Date: 2013-01-17 04:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah that is tough I'm sure the Catholic church would be even more powerful

Possible, although with Anne still alive and influencing her son, it's hard to say. Certainly the Anglican church would still have come into being.

But it was Elizabeth who conquered the Spanish Armada and made the English fleet the wonder of the world, and claimed the Americas for England.

Of course, that's what leads to my steampunk world, where the country of New Amsterdam rubs elbows with Spanish Mexico and the French south...
