I got in touch with my friends (they've had three area code changes and closed their TN practice to open two VA ones). We couldn't talk long but we will. Why? Because turns out they were trying to get in touch with me because they've been trying to adopt an Tsitsistas (Cheyenne) baby and have been for some time. They contacted me a year or so ago about this because I've dedicated a chunk of my life to the study of various Indigenous cultures and have worked on many reservations (and am being approached right now by a near by reservation here) and they wanted my advice to help give the child as much of his culture as possible (I know cross-cultural adoptions are touchy subjects. It'll be an interesting family already in that the dad is Caucasian and mom African-American and now a Native American child). Anyhow they now have a 6 week old baby in the house so not exactly free to talk.

But they'll be helping me out and this will hopefully be the beginning of a better track record of keeping in touch.

And on a totally different note, I just checked the first attempt at writing questions by my new class. Damn, they're better now than my previous class was by the end of the semester. Whee. Either I've gotten better or they have or both.

I think they'll make a lovely family! And I think it's fabulous that they want to research and participate in the baby's heritage. It'll make that kid feel even more special. :)

It's good you got in touch with them. And really, you've been moving around a lot too. So I'm not surprised it was hard to get reconnected.

What worries me is that I was so used to having carte blanche with the letters of rec. that I never even THOUGHT to check to see if the phone #'s were good. They haven't been for a year which means I looked like a total moron all of 2004 trying to find a job. And it's my fault

And I think the kid will have some really special parents. I love these two people. I might not have spoken to them in a long time but he remembered my voice
