But before I get into that, I'm just glad they got the guys today (and am going to be curious how those screaming 'frame up' justify it).

My talk went well. I had about a dozen students show up (I bribed them with extra credit) and pretty much my department (minus the math people who had a conference elsewhere) was there and the other previous winners and...no one else. sigh. I really wish we were more supportive of each other. My dean (a former winner) and the Provost were there. That' can't hurt since the Provost needs to decide on my promotion.

I DID feel bad because my friend from Athens missed almost all of it. She was running late then got horribly lost. (more on that in a minute). I think it went well. I pronounced the Welsh right and the most interesting question I got was from the girl from Wales who had never really been to any of the sites and had pegged on my opening statement that you never appreciate what's in your own back yard. She wanted to know more precisely where these were so she could go and see what I saw when she goes home.

They still want that paper. I DID say, sorry but without my actual release time it's not getting done this week. It's just not. I want to publish this and I want to do it right, so just keep your pants on. I'll give you the power point now. It was recorded. God knows if they'll give me a copy or not but if they do I'll inflict in on you.

L wanted to go out but she waited until today to ask so no. I would have gone to the student movie fest anyhow even if M hadn't come from Athens. She and I went out to Bob Evans (which is getting pricey for pretty crappy food). The new chicken penne was tasty though and it was fun hanging out with her without a computer in front of us (she's from my writers' group) Sadly she missed it because when she printed out the directions (not a lot of money, no gps) it skipped step 8 and she didn't notice it so was missing the KEY step (i.e get on 32w). Sigh. But she came which made me happy since lately I feel like I'm getting taken for granted by my local friends. I mean the last time one of us had this fellowship (as in last year) we all planned a night out. For me, we ask 2 hours before the event. hmmm.

I wanted to share pictures of it but photobucket is being an ass. it successfully uploads then when you go get the pic, it's gone. It's been doing that A LOT since they revamped the site. Are people fundamentally incapable of actually improving a site when they say they are? Every time it always just ends up worse.
