Had a good time in Vegas and it was a great conference. I decided to just type things up while I was there (I was in the only hotel in the world with no internet, okay if you could plug a cable into your computer you were fine. Does diddly if you have a tablet, let me tell you.) and I'll post one a day for the interested.
I'm glad I did the dumb thing I did today while I was home. I was trying to put the suitcase on my bed and lost it, scraped my arm, my knee and squashed my foot. Geez.
Vegas day one
It was such a rough morning trying to get here I figured the day would be bad. Neither Mom nor I could sleep. I don't know what her issue was, but I just couldn't sleep. I can't even say I was excited because, really, I'm not. The con takes up a lot of time, so it's more work than play for me.
But once we got to the airport, we whipped right in and having paid for the upgrade, we were in the A loading group, so we were among the first 30 people on the plane which was helpful given how crowded the flight was. We had a nearly 2 hour lay-over in the Phoenix airport. I realized it's been 21 years since I've been in that airport.
There was a food place in there called La Grande Orange that served great food. Not sure if it's a chain or not. Got a personal pizza, the mother earth with marinated mushrooms, fennel, broccolini, yellow peppers and artichokes and a spicy chickpea lettuce wrap with huge chunks of sundried tomatoes and avocados. Mom got a dulce con leche gelato and I got a lime-cucumber one that was surprisingly tart and good.
Then in Vegas it went a tad sidewise. The shuttle left us off in the back of the casino/hotel, making everyone drag their luggage all the way through the casino, the Quad, which is what the Imperial Palace has become. It needs to be renovated and is in cruddy shape. Also, this must be the hotel where all the 20 something sluts and drunk bastards stay. Dear god, the tiny skirts. Also, this is the second time I've come to Vegas only to be told that my reservation was just for the price and didn't guarantee a room style or even a room. We didn't get what we asked for. We got one bed in an eyebrow shaped room with almost all the furniture gone. It's a huge skinny room with like nothing in it. And the toilet was so low to the ground it was like squatting over a hole, fun.
We weren't going to gamble, but after scoping out where I had to walk to get to the mirage, Mom decided we were gambling after all. In 20 minutes she tripled her money, I lost half of my twenty and it's like quarter to two in the morning our time. Since I have to get up at an ungodly hour to be there by 7 AM, I'll wrap this up as the drunken idiots roam the halls.
NOTE: Since I was gone SO long without internet, I'm not going back over the flist. If you have something you'd like me to see, link me up.
