I finally got around to watching Dr. WHo which I might have mention last night (read I can't remember and am too lazy to look) It wasn't bad. Not great either. Today was one of the first episode of Donna on in the morning when I first got ready. I have to admit it, I think the Adipocytes are cute. Though there was something off in that which sort of bothered me, the dismissive way Tennant mentioned Martha fancied him. Granted it was always rather one-sided but it just seemed cold. I'm learning I don't like it when he's cold (which is one of my many problems with the new Doctor). Though there was also something Martha said on her first trip in time, the worry about being of African descent and that is actually something could have a lot of story potential (though I would have gotten tired of see prejudice time and again. It's sad enough it still exists to the level it does). They never really did much with that. Has she been the only non-Caucasian companion? (barring the Asian young man with #8) I think I'd like to see another alien companion.

Was it me or was NCIS's premiere dreadfully dull?

And speaking of being a geek I wanted to read Neil Gaiman's Sandman series because they've expanded banned book week to include comic books. I thought I knew where it was. That box wasn't it. And here begins a descent into hell. I start tearing the place apart (I think I took the books back to mom's) I dig into tons of storage boxes. Nothing but books. Books. BOOKS. We make jokes about living in a library but I really do and it's not pretty. If anyone thinks I'm 'cheating' with my declutter meme it's only because they've never seen inside my place.

I should stay here all next summer and do NOTHING but clean. And get read of more books. In fact next year's reading meme isn't going to be read 50 books. It's going to be read 50 books I already OWN and get them the hell out of here.

But it goes beyond that. I found in the closet a huge plastic storage box with just a single pair of jeans (which in spite of being a 22 which I can sometimes get into and that I must have worn at some point, are SO small I was convinced they were 18s or something) and 3 pillow cases (yeah, 3 not 4, go figure). I can convert those into carry bags for groceries but wtf? I can assume that once upon a time i put in there thinking to fill it later the forgot about it for years.

I would also like to take some of the random paper shit (Cauldron looking at you) and scan it into pdfs and toss out the hard copies. I could make cleaning this place the effort of a life time at this point. If you know, cleaning didn't upset me so. I know I have people on this list for whom cleaning makes them feel good. I'm the opposite. clutter makes me feel relaxed. Clean up makes me crazy. But there is a limit to the clutter and I'm WAY beyond it. And of course my arm hurts now from digging and lifting (and coming to the conclusion that I can read enough from the Amazon preview of the bound book. I was going to read the one lonely Hellblazer I found in another box but frankly it's a ton of f-bombs that I don't feel like reading in front of students)

And then Kanda got up behind me and I stepped back going what's this round thing under my foot (tail? limb?) He screamed and jerked. I screamed and flailed and then caught myself with my bad arm. Holy fucking hell does it hurt now.

Saw the endocrinologist who is as mystified as I am for why my sugar was fine at home and fucked up now. He put me on that new pill Innvokana. Here's hoping a) I can get it without my insurance being a dick b) that I don't pee myself in class because of these elongated class times and this pills method of action. i.e. PEE!

Mickey was an official companion, from "The Girl in the Fireplace" through "The Age of Steel" -- not much, but he was there.

There hasn't been a lot of diversity in the TARDIS, which was understandable in Classic Who, but could use some work in the modern one. (I'd have to look up the actual aliens; the only ones I can think of offhand are Adric, Nyssa, and Turlough (although human of origin; I suppose Leesa is in that same category)...)

All the recent companions are from modern, 21st-century UK. Shame Clara didn't end up coming from Victorian England.

I'd love to declutter, but it's hard enough just getting into the closet. I got rid of several pairs of shoes, some purses, and a couple of sweaters. Oh, and a few pair of jeans. Not finished yet.

True. I knew I was forgetting someone (Rose and Mickey barely register and I liked HIM better than her).

I know there were a few 'aliens' including his granddaughter. I have noticed that though about the 21st cen Docs all their companions are from modern London (which okay makes it easier I suppose)

You'd come here and weep (or steal my books with my blessings)

In fairness, "NCIS New Orleans" should be super boring because there isn't a lot of Navy presence there - just the reserve training base. It should be three people asking why they have an office there.

Not that's is a defense of a weak TV show.

Hhaha yes you mentioned that last year. I hadn't realized that but I haven't seen that yet (recorded) The original, I think, might be getting long in the tooth.

'Cause a lot of the human companions from Classic Who were from all over history -- Jamie was from 16th Century Scotland, Victoria was from Victorian (ha) England, Peri was from what was then the future (late 80's) America, Leela and Zoe (and Vicki, too, if I remember correctly) were from the far-flung future (when humans were out colonizing) -- the closest they've come to that was Captain Jack.

That's an excellent point. It almost feels like they're being a bit lazy in that regard and missing out on a lot of possibilities (just look how much fun and mileage they're getting out of Ichabod Crane).

I feel like I might out Capaldi an apology. I saw the episode today where Tennant's Doctor was yelling at the men from Unit for having guns around him and Martha takes him to task. I thought it was SO out of place with Capaldi's doc did the same but frankly I feel like it is with Tennant too considering Pertwee's doc worked with Unit.

Oh, the Doctor NEVER liked guns much -- he's worked with UNIT since Patrick Troughton's days (#2), but he always sniped about the guns. (He and the Brig had a lot of classic arguments about guns, often during Three's run -- Three used Venusian Karate, but not guns.)

I think modern showrunners have this "the modern audience needs someone to connect with" mindset, not noticing how people connect with the Doctor himself, or Madam Vastra, or any of the other characters we've been introduced to throughout the years.

Ah okay. Honestly I'm not surprised that he doesn't like guns. I think it was the overt hostility of Capaldi's Doc to the soldiers in eppie #2 that irritated me (I think it did Barb too. I think it was her review I saw that in)

You might be right about that. I do love Madam Vastra.

I was thinking today again that it would be nice to see River with Capaldi (we've talked about this before) or even his 'daughter' from that cloning thing

Yeah, he was never against the SOLDIERS, it was the guns he didn't like. It did seem odd and a bit hostile, especially since the Doctor has very rarely denied someone who asked to come with him, especially a soldier or someone who loved guns, because he felt he could change them or be a good influence on them (Jamie, the Brig, Captain Jack, Harry Sullivan, etc., etc.).

This Doctor is... dark, I guess, and I had enough of dark Doctor with Emo Ten.

It would be interesting. I didn't like that "Doctor's Daughter" episode much, though. If they could do something interesting with the character, that would be cool.

Okay that's what I thought.

And yes, I'm not really digging the darkness either and I like dark storylines. It seems somehow wrong for the Doctor

I didn't much like the episode either. However, i thought she was an interesting concept

Well, he's the Doctor now, and all I can do is hang on and see what they do.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. He seemed very Doctor-y tonight. Best since he was talking to the Dinosaur.

Yes, this is true, it's going to be what it is

I'll try to find time to watch it tomorrow
