A tiny bit of a scare
Oct. 16th, 2014 12:04 amMy right thigh started hurting yesterday. The scare is I have some serious varicose veins there and that can lead to clots. It wasn't red. It wasn't hot. I hadn't hit it. Then today it hit me, this is the same area that's numb. I have arthritis in my spine and it irritates the nerve. Well it's gone from numb to OMG DIE from me having to stand for so many hours without rest. It's nerve pain. Scare over. I know what this is. I can hack this.
I forgot to mention Mom called me yesterday in the middle of NCIS. Mom - PENDERGAST! They called the FBI agent Pendergast (for those who don't read Preston Child's Pendergast novels, They're about FBI Special Agent Pendergast and have a slight paranormal (or not) slant to them).
Me -Yes I heard.
Mom- Bet they read those books. Pendergast. (giggles and hangs up to go back to watching)
Me- ....geek
I've started another Goodreads Win...and it's SO bad grammar wise I had to go look to see if it was a self pub. I rarely put in for those (not that I think all self pubs suck. I just don't have good luck with most, though I did read a very good one this year). It's not. It's an indie publisher. Now I'm scared. Within the first ten pages there has been info dumping, NO hypens where needed (elf like, muffin shaped), one sentence that was actually 5 with missed punctuation and boy's instead of boys. It's reading like they published draft one. Wow. This is going to be painful.
And just in time for Nano a Terrible Minds' blog post Writers write to tell us to stop whining about why we can't write and just Do It. (sadly I'm about thru with his novel too and I don't like it).
Taking secrets to the grave
sad but kind Can't imagine being this poor girl but kudos to her coaches.

Wed. Reading Meme
What I just read points to Jana's WUW. it's there
What I'm reading Now Chuck Wendig's Blackbirds. it's so unrelentingly dark that I can't say I really like it. Sigh.
What I'll be reading Dreams by James Erich which one best LGBT YA at the Rainbow awards last year (enjoying it) and Veil of Life the aforementioned grammatical mess.
declutter day 278 item tossed-University t-shirt Why kept-Had to wear it for orientation why tossed - Their 2X is so small I’m pretty sure it’s a large in disguise. WHY have I kept this for 7 years?

Date: 2014-10-16 05:37 am (UTC)Just now my hand was itching and, when I scratched it, I peeled away a thumbnail-sized section of skin. Ah, contact dermatitis, my old friend, how I hate you. Well, that'll bug me.
Loved the secrets section.

I have encountered books like that. It's frustrating as hell. It's especially bad if the story is good but the grammar and editing problems make it hard to read.

Date: 2014-10-16 07:21 pm (UTC)it's very frustrating because if I hadn't agreed to read this, I would have already stopped. There is no excuse for such sloppiness

Date: 2014-10-17 02:19 pm (UTC)So if you say you'll read something toy have to read our all the way through even if it's terrible? lol. I feel for you. If the story is good I could get through it, but if the story is also terrible. .. Sorry I'm putting it down. I have so precious little time to read already.

Date: 2014-10-17 07:03 pm (UTC)If I've been given it by a publisher in exchange for a review, I will read it. That is, after all, my half of the bargain

Date: 2014-10-25 02:56 pm (UTC)Yeah, I mean I'm not obligated to review but I've finally moved up to the point where big name companies are sending me books (Tor, etc) and if I don't review it might drop me back to self -pubs only. I can wade my way through one sucky book

Date: 2014-10-26 07:01 am (UTC)hee hee. I'm proud of you for being able to do it. I guess I sometimes slog all the way through something terrible too. But it's pretty rare now. I have so precious little time to read as it is.

Date: 2014-10-26 06:25 pm (UTC)But if I didn't finish, I don't go trolling on goodreads. I have a couple people who friended me there who obviously get a kick out of giving 1-2 star ratings
