So it finally snowed
Feb. 16th, 2015 10:50 pmOkay it's snowed before this year but not tremendously. Today we finally got smacked. I was already off because of President's day so the only thing the snow did was prevent me from getting medical attention for my tooth. My temp cap fell off and I swallowed that too. Whee. I'm off tomorrow too. Here's hoping the power stays on. It went out this morning.
I just punched a mouse in the face with a box. The little blighter finally showed himself in the heating grate. There's no way to get to the mouse. Kanda's too fat to push into the heating duct and there's no place to set a trap. I should have just let him into the computer room and let Kanda eat him there.... Dad had some good ideas. They'd have been better if he hadn't gotten pissy about it and hung up on me.
I took part in a Valentine's Day author fest. I won two items, a novel and an audio from my publisher. To get an audio book made you have to sell in the thousands. I got a list of like 7 pages long to choose from (oh boy) but I feel...somehow depressed. I've read some of the books on the list. While I'm sure many, if not most, are great books, a couple of them were just bad. So yeah, I'm human. Sue me. I get jealous and I am now.
BUT I did some really good comments to my SF story on Terrible Mind's critique a paragraph thing today. You can find it here (you'll have to search for Jana to find it and my comments to others). I really think that story would sell. Must finish it. ( so it anyone wants to read a SF story, let me know!)
Here's a meme from
kiramaru7 who gave me the letter J.
Something I hate: Jerks. Okay yeah, I’m stretching a little here but J is hard and we all dislike jerks
Something I love: Jewelry. Seriously, I am all about the jewels.
Somewhere I've been: Jackson, OH, Jacksonville Fl, Jefferson City MO
Somewhere I'd like to go: Japan (finally an easy one!)
Someone I know: John (my brother’s name, my dad’s, my granddad’s, you get the idea)
A film I liked: Jurassic Park
If you want to play, leave a comment asking for a letter. :D
And now for Music Monday. It's not secret I love steampunk, especially the music, maybe more so than anything else (I hate to say it a lot of the books don't do it for me). I chose one of the longest running bands for day. They were there at the beginning of the movement and are still putting music out today. Eighteen years is a long run for a band, especially one as niche as Abney Park.
A lot of their earlier songs don't seem to have videos or are just them playing it live. In some cases here, I've found fan videos.
The first song I ever heard by them is Airship Pirates which is quintessential steampunk, right?
The Aether Shanties album has a lot of good stuff on it. Building Steam is one of my favorites.
Herr Drosselmeyer's Doll is another quintessential and much darker steampunk trope, the automaton. Id I were more skilled with stage make up I wouldn't mind giving being a robot a shot. There could be fascinating backstories for it. The one in this song is naturally where a lot of fiction goes with it, the silver metal lover.
There are three songs that I really love by them that aren't necessary 'steampunk' in their storytelling. However I find them perfect for my own various characters.
She could be the theme for Roy seeing Riza (or Ed and Winry)
Breathe is quite lovely.
Downtrodden is Kaleo's (points to the character I used for Terrible Minds today) theme. I think many of us can unfortunately relate to it.
Circus at the End of the World is one of their newer ones and it was an enjoyable video
And I've shared this one before. It's their newest. At this point they are making far more elaborate videos. Two Elixirs is a very familiar story, Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
