Okay they call me but I miss the call (I forgot the time difference) and called them back immediately (so guess who has to pay for the call since they don't offer to call me back). So she tells me all about the classes they want to add in the allied health fields, the ones that already exist, how they're fixing up the labs and how they want someone to do ecology/wildlife science (which yes I can do). The man with her never actually speaks (this is the committee?).

They ask me NO questions. None. I eventually start offering stuff about me and what I'm doing. Maybe they didn't want me to. I don't know. I was so confused. Finally they ask me to ask them questions...oh good, you know nothing about me and now I need to think of a question for you? uh....well I thought of some beyond what do you plan on paying me. Finally it limps into they probably want me to come for a teaching demonstration. I do manage to squeeze in I can do photoshop, respondus and other online stuff and that UCF wanted me to get an ecology PHD....

It was...oddd.

They didn't ask you anything? Very strange. I would expect them to ask about your abilities, background, teaching technique, etc.

What happens next? You wait for them to follow up?

i wait on them for follow up and yeah I've never had one that just told me about the school and asked me NOTHING. Usually they ask everything you just said.

That is...strange. Fingers crossed for you!

That *is* bizarre, but maybe they were just thinking they were trying to sell you on them instead of the other way around.

That's what I'll have to assume. I mean they had to have SOME interest in me or else why give me an interview.

thanks and yes it is

I think there must be a new popular methodology for interviews these days because you are about the 4th person I know who has had an interview like this.

I can't conceive of what is supposed to be achieved. Maybe to see how well people swim when they are thrown into the deep end when they didn't even know they were going to be swimming!

Oh so I'm not alone. That's almost comforting. The only thing it achieved was that at least now i know what they're looking for and the type of school it is so if they offer the second interview I can decide what to do.

What did you think of them?

It's not hte ideal area I want to live in but if they're doing what they're saying they're doing (Rhinelander told me the same story) then it woudl be cool. The min. I can teach there is 12 hours so that's livable almost.

Been there. Sheesh. I always take their non-interest in asking me questions as a sign they know everything they want to know already and are filling you in on the job. Which is a sign that you're a serious candidate.

You buy that??

That's the theory I'm going with at any rate. I've just never had anyone do that before. Usually I get all the bullshit questions about teaching philosphies (read the bs write up I copied out of a book, that's my philosophy, don't waste my time.), and how to handle the slow kids in class (that would be....most of my class). Maybe there was less B.S. this time because I'm teaching now.

Gah, I hate interviews. They sound like they're either clueless, or they're looking for someone who's basically got a whole presentation piece on Why You Should Hire Me worked up. :P

Or I'm the only one willing to go to middle of nowhere OH and they're basically saying this is us? Like us?

Did they get letters of recommendation from people who know about your teaching skills?

Date: 2005-04-14 08:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
some did some aren't doing that (thank god). Instead they just want the phone #/email of my references and skip the letter. They'll call if they want to know.

Very strange indeed. Maybe they figure they have to sell you on the program?

that seems to be the consensus

I'm going to agree with you that it might be different now that you're actively teaching. I'll also agree that being in the middle of nowhere, they might want to make sure you understand what you're signing up for. They might be shocked. Wanted to call just to see if you're a lunatic. :)

Wow, that is strange... And pretty stupid, I guess, they can't have all your background info, can they?
