I realized just how old my 'good' shorts were and since San Antonio hasn't stopped raining and being hot for days and days I thought maybe I should get something less tatty. I only got two pairs of shorts (mostly because the other two were still over 50$) and two shirts and a crocheted shrug and a sundress (mom got a shirt and a jacket) and it was all under 100$. Woo hoo. And the sales clerk told me I HAD to go on a haunted San Antonio tour. I assured her that was already in the works.

Then dad called. His cousin, a professional 'picker' was on his way from Uniontown to go through Grandma's stuff. He was SUPPOSED to call first and you'd think Dad would just say sorry they're out. No so we had to come home. I didn't go picking with them so I could round up a handful of restaurants within a half mile of the Menger because I'll be hoofing it. Dad was like you can't go TOO far. It'll be DARK. Dad, I know city's are dangerous. I walk them all the time at night. He has no idea what I get up to apparently....

Speaking of the Menger, they did something I've never had anyone do before. They emailed me a welcome package that included amenities and things to do. That was nice.

I'm still not that excited about it all but it should be fun. I need to call that tour place because they never DID email me back and I still sort of want to go with them.

And somehow winter snuck back. It's supposed to frost tomorrow. I'm not complaining but all the flowers are going to have to be covered.

Speaking of picknig at Grandma's Mom FINALLY brought up the treadle sewing machine out of the basement that I've wanted for years. It's a Singer 66 which ran from 1900 to 1940. I'm not entirely sure when we got this but I'm betting in the 30s. It' really beautiful. Sadly the belt is broken so the treadle no longer works. I'm going to look into fixing it. I want this some day.

It really is. Turns out it was great grandmas so it's probably older than I first thought.

I probably can get the belt for it

Love the sewing machine. I am not a seamstress by any means, but I always found that I was more comfortable using my sil's old treadle machine than I was with the electric ones in home ec. Probably because I could control the speed easier.

thanks. It's cool. I hear you. I've sewn the skin of my fingers to things with electric ones. I'm skilled.

Oh, memory lane! My mum had a singer sewing machine like that, only not so fancy, as hers didn’t have the smart drawers on the sides. Looks like quite an upmarket model for its day. I’m sure you’ll be able to get it fixed.

It is a very fancy thing. If you google Singer 66 you can see just how fancy the machine itself it. I'm betting about every household had something like it.

Being of a very literal frame of mind, I did google that, except I misread the number and put 65 in. I got Billy Joel! Smart machine, though. I got it right second time!

Have a good trip, Dana.
