My flights are never free of drama. This time it was pretty good. The worst it really got was the old woman who hadn't flown in a decade who glommed onto me to lead her around and getting stuck in a row with a half mad former Latin/Grammar teacher who just couldn't shut up. Thank god for the pilot stuck between us going back to his home. The old dude mostly talked to him until he saw me editing. He asked about it and I should have taken his option of 'grading' but instead I said 'no, editing.' He brightened up. 'What is it?" And before I could stop myself I said 'vampires in Vegas' which was better than saying gay vampire erotica I suppose. His eyes got big. He got a charge out of that. When the plane landed he said ' be safe out there. You might need some holy water.' I said I'm staying at a haunted hotel and going on a haunted pub crawl. He said 'i want holy water to bless your seat before I slide out over it.

However there will be no ghost tour for me tonight because it's raining like 6 inches an hour and there is so much thunder and tornado potential. Sigh. It's only tonight but I'm exhausted anyhow.I didn't sleep much and I'm half afraid I'm getting a sinus infection. Every time I lean forward the nose drips. sigh.

I did step out and took a peek at the mud hut. I can see the alamo out my window. I did walk down the block to Pat O'Brien's forgetting it was Saturday. It was raunchy piano bar night so i broke the bank on hurricanes and a shrimp po'boy.

I strolled thru the Menger taking pictures. I think I might have some interesting ones. My room is nice. If I had a complaint it's that there is no vanity in the bathroom to get ready in the morning and the a/c is probably from 1974, barely doing anything. I think I'm sadly in the mid-20th century addition but still it's nice. There is a strange spongy spot by the walk in closet.

I'm just going to relax and go to bed earlish since I have to be over at the conference at 730.

Also I was aware Texas in this area was Flat. I just wasn't prepared for HOW flat. Also this bit of the riverwalk is TACKY. I'm talking Ocean City Maryland boardwalk - Wisconsin Dell's tacky. I sure hope more of it is...classier? Something? It makes me sort of sad to see the Alamo and the Menger literally built into tacky shops now. it loses something.

did enjoy the dark chocolate/coconut gelato I found across the street and I did finish 1 1/2 books, a novella AND rereading all the stuff I did for nano so now I know the next two scenes to work on for those Vegas vampires

Yay for a decent flight! And scaring a person into wanting holy water before sliding over your seat. mwahah.

Tacky is never as fun, unless you're in the mood for tacky.

Poor old man.

I agree and tonight I am not in the mood for tacky probably because I am tired and disappointed there was no drunk ghosts

Yes. But at least he had a sense of humor? Or it sounded like it.

Awww, I'm sorry you're not in the mood for tacky.

Probably. I talked to the little old woman at the end of Mom's block today and she was so happy I'd stopped to talk to her, because so many people won't and she doesn't know what's going on on Mom's end of the street.

or should I say, The Bible Belt? ;)

San Antonio (and most of Texas) has been in a horrible drought, so they need every drop - I'm just sorry it had to all come while you are visiting. And, yeah, the river walk is very touristy. It's a lot like the strand in Galveston now, shop and restaurant-wise, because of it.

there is a memorial day arts and crafts event there this weekend (hopefully not rained out...)

Love the plane story. I usually get people like that, too. Makes me tend to be very non-communicative in the airport and when I first get on, to avoid them. Too bad--I could have some fun stories, I'm sure, but some miserable reality. So glad we have Kindles and iPads and headphones now....when I was younger, it was often some traveling sales rep trying to hit on me. Really ugh. Also glad to have grey hair now!

I'm glad the flight wasn't to horrible. You definitely gave your seat mate something to wonder about!

Why am I not surprised that The Alamo has been reduced to tacky tourist traps.

Glad you had a good flight! I once sat next to this granny from Puerto Rico who was going to Florida to visit her grand-kids. (I was going to visit my granny) She feed me cookies the whole trip & talked about her family. It made the flight go faster. :D I can't believe that a mention of Vampires made your row-sharer want holy water. XD

Sorry about the rain, but I hope you still manage to have fun! :D

I can see where that would happen.

I am trying very hard to be less impatient with people I don't know who want to talk to me.

Mostly I just chilled in the hotel whichwas enough for me after a long day.

Sometimes I don't mind talking. I do like my reading time though

I sure did

Turns out the riverwalk was down below but yes the Alamo faces at least two blocks of Ripley's attractions and souvenier shops

No one ever hits of me. I'm probably relieved at that but yes Ioften get talkers who don't seem to understand a book means leave me alone

I'm not sure texas can handle reversing the drought in one go like it was trying last night. It was pretty bad.

I did find the riverwalk below where I was, it's less tacky.

the air however is very very tacky

hellmouth described texas well

*nods* Sometimes just relaxing is better than running around looking at everything.

Yeah, me too! I always bring a book or two with when I'm away. :D

that's pretty much all we get down here - feast or famine, flood or drought

I'm just glad the weather has shaped up so you can get out and see the sights

I really, really like to listen to music when I'm working out, but sometimes there's someone who just ignores my earbuds and insists on talking. Don't know why people can't read obvious signals!

And I definitely don't get hit on these days.

I feel so sorry for all the people over there extending all the way up to Dallas because so many have been flooded for days and got even more today. There was a huge squall line that just went across the state with warning boxes everywhere: tornado warning... flood warning... Good grief

you are seeing TEXAS. It's always trying to kill us

I hope you have a good day today and a safe flight out (the rain should be off of that area for now - because it has been on us all night)

and I didn't know you were staying so long, but it's good that you did - enjoy!
