News Report Drabbles
Apr. 17th, 2005 01:43 pmHere's a handful of news reports that stood out to me (and well I'll confess it, I went with the easy ones this time because it's a busy weekend here)
Gym in Flames - Buffy pre S1
When the news report hit about Hemery’s gym burning down, Buffy knew her life would never be the same. The vicious fight her parents had about Mom’s inability to keep her out of trouble killed any dreams they’d get back together. Mom seemed determined to prove everyone wrong.
Now Buffy’s life was in boxes. They were moving to some piddly small town, leaving all her friends behind. Of course, no school wanted her so that made her suspicious what was up with Sunnydale. The best she could hope for was no more vampires. She pretended not to cry as she packed.
Bizarre Desert Sinkhole - Angel just after Home/Chosen
‘Sinkhole Swallows Town.’ That was one news report Angel knew better than to believe in. Was she dead? No, he’d feel it, right? He couldn’t lose Buffy and his son in less than forty-eight hours. Nothing would be so cruel.
Damn, I should have stayed there, fought at her side. Angel shut his eyes, knowing whoever wore that amulet didn’t make it. He was still prepared to give his life for her. Maybe he should just call her...only he didn’t know her cell phone number. How did he get this far out of her life? Afraid and alone, Angel wept.
Hostages at the Mall - Angel early S5
Angel wanted to crush the dvd Eve had given him. It was a less than subtle threat, play our game or everyone gets to see the news reel burned into the shiny piece of plastic. Be a good little corporate drone or the spell comes undone. Part of Angel had gone numb. He no longer questioned the bizarreness of the role.
Unable to destroy it, Angel found he couldn’t ignore it either. The camera had caught everything, all his son’s agony and his inability to save him. Angel watched like it was an act of contrition heedless of the tears on his cheeks.
L.A in Chaos - Connor Post NFA
"Terrorists hit L.A." Connor turned off the news report and looked back at the impromptu hospital ward set up in the basement of the Reilly’s wooded home. Heavily bandaged and barely ‘alive’ Angel, Spike and Illyria lay side by side.
"Here you go, hopefully microwaved to perfection," Lorne said, handing Connor two mugs of blood.
"Thanks Lorne, I’ll feed them, you take care of Illyria," Connor said kneeling down between the vampires. Connor cradled Angel against him, lifting the mug to his lips. "Drink, Dad. You did it. We won."
Angel smiled wearily. "You’re alive...all that matters."
"No, you matter, too."
