More about Yesterday
Apr. 21st, 2005 11:33 amSpoke to my boss about this all and he was of the same mind as me, why are they trying so hard. Personally I think it's because they thought I could start May 1st since I spaced on the president's welcome letter until tuesday when I wrote back and said yeah I can do summer's (thinking June) and they called the same day. I forgot to mention they wanted me to head up three other instructors which is so....wrong really. I'm not experienced enough and who wants to come in from the outside and take over like that? Oh well, I'll just ride it out and see what happens. They're paying for it so it doesn't hurt me any.
The rest of the day was weird. I was jumped by my students enthusiastically the moment I came in. There was a health fair going on in the LRC and they couldn't wait to tell me about the cancerous lung that we were inflating so students could see and FEEL what smoking does (which it turns out that's our lung and I could have dragged it out but no one told me we had it), see the chiropractor put electrodes on us and read pain, massage therapy, family planning etc. They wanted to go over and I said, no, we need to do work.
Well they begged the first hour of class and since we're supposed to have lab I gave in. We went over. They were so cute, beating people away from things so I could try it. They insisted on watching the chiropractor put the electrodes on me (which prompted a discussion later because of the alternative beliefs held by that profession), they made sure I got a massage and we all played with the lung and the alternative meds and the behavorial health guys gave me a stress ball to replace the one I shredded.
The cutest part was the family planning thing that had dozens of birth control alternatives laid out on the table including expanded condoms AND a female condom which is about the normal length but MUCH wider. One of the younger males in my class missed me explaining what it was and came over. He was much awed and intimidated because he thought it was a regular condom. There was much razzing as a result.
So my class was happy. I got a massage and no one figured out how the heart worked no matter what the hell I said.
