So today was my steampunk train ride followed by the sternwheeler fest on the banks of the Mighty Ohio.I got to wear my new hat. I did opt for the lacy but basically sleeveless shirt because yeah, hot and humid today.

It started out on a sour note when I learned Google Driving Directions was WAY off on how long it would take me to get there (and I kept ignoring my GPS because I knew it was right on 33W and I didn't want to take 500 back roads to get there). I gave myself an hour and a half and should have been there at 2pm for a train leaving at 230. I got there at 2:20. Thanks for that stress.

So we're all there (and if there was a photo op prior to leaving I so totally missed it). We were going on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway and I was hoping they had the steam engine up and running, not yet. I had no idea it was a 2 1/2 hour ride. There were three types of cars, two open 'cattle' car styles where everyone sits side by side on wood benches (we did NOT opt for this), the B&O car which is air conditioned (which we didn't know until we returned) and a reconditioned older car with windows which we picked to go on.

I was a little afraid I'd get motion sick especially when that train started swaying up the track but I was fine. It was a nice relaxing day. I was sitting alone but by the end, almost all the most active group members had sat and talked with me. I now know how to take care of grandma's singer sewing machine and they all know my gladstone doctor's bag isn't for show.

There was even a reporter talking to me and the others. How fun. I didn't realize that it would go to Hocking College (has such a pretty campus, too bad it's in worse trouble than my own) and to a little log cabin village. We got to wander around there for a while.

Next week is our ball. I was going to go to the sternwheeler fest as I mentioned but suddenly the sky clouded. I hadn't even gotten back to Athens before it was raining so hard more water was hitting my car than the last time I drove it through the car wash. So much for that. I hid out at the Kroger's for a while (I should not be allowed in the big Kroger's) then went home. Ah well.

It was a good night. I did stop at Arch & Eddie's but didn't care much for that sandwich (over cooked prime rib) and had to try Great Lakes' Nosferatu red ale. Citrusy hops but a bitter after taste. I've never really cared for anything from Great Lakes (Sorry Cleveland) but I keep trying.

Also Dr. Who tonight was good. I enjoyed it at any rate.
