It's a bit mothy here today
Sep. 20th, 2015 11:32 pmI headed to the Mothman Festival today but just for a little while since I had work to do. It was gorgeous today, only 72 so perfect to be out and about. The vendors this year were...less somehow. Yes I got to talk to Rosemary Ellen Guilley again and got her book on black mirror scrying (because what could go wrong there) and with a local paranormal investigator Neal Parks but some of the stuff was just eh. There was one, Courtney B Designs who is a local lampwork glass bead maker/metal smith. I am not too fond of her animal beads but you can see her tree of life beads with silver wrap. They're gorgeous. Way out of my price range for a freaking glass bead mind you. I did buy one (and still it was too much, I blame the sugar in the birch beer) of bigfoot's footprint.
The Nissan Chow Main people where there giving out free samples so that was lunch. Not bad but I was driven away from the seating at the river side ampitheatre by the 1940s female country yodeling. SO not my country music. I got a birch beer. I love old fashioned home made sodas. Yes it was still no doubt more sugar than I needed.
I headed down to the state theatre and found a hot dog wagon in hippie colors there. She gave the couple ahead of me a free hot dog for their dog. It was a good hot dog she gave me too. I listened to Neal Parks' talk on paranormal television and later thanked him for being honest about how stupid it is for shows like Ghost Adventures having Zack screaming at the ghosts and provoking them (he did say it was all for show and Zack is a nice fellow which is something I guess).
From there I wandered into the Mason Jar the antique store/country craft store I always go to when I'm there. The prices seemed a tad high this year. I DID see two leather horses the size of Breyer's and wondered if ELD would have liked them but you know...leather. They didn't seem terribly old either. I was a bit surprised by all the Mamie dolls and other black memorablia, like an old time racist died and the family dumped their crap. I did get scuppernong jelly, gooseberry jam and purple popcorn for the parents for the holiday.
Wandered back to the riverfront. By this time the Hillbilly hot dog people had set up and I got a Mothman dog, i.e. a deep fried wienie (answering the question how can you make a hot dog even LESS healthy) covered with onion rings, 1000 islands sauce, tomatoes and slap yer momma spice. It was good. And this time there was a 70s rock band playing but the lead singer saw someone he knew in the audience and decided to take time out to talk to her. Um....
There was a couple men in black, one I see every year and one much older fellow I've not seen before (I didn't get a picture this time). It was very windy so my pictures look...yeah like I'm in a wind storm.
I succumbed and got a funnel cake (I still have a good chunk of it waiting). And all that sugar made me sleepy. I even forgot to go get dinner from BW3s. I came home and did jack shit.
Other than grade so at least there's that but I was supposed to go out tomorrow but I think I will not be doing that.
As for my writerly ways, i did it over on Jana's blog and I have some details there about my Weird West story. I'd love some input on it. If nothing else there's the link to my giveaway as well. If you want a paperback copy of Soldiers of the Sun you can enter the giveaway and it ends at midnight tomorrow (west coast time) Weird West this way
Mothman & Bigfoot
Me & Scooby Do
They did ask for a donation to take a pic with him and the Mystery Machine and it goes to a great dane rescue
STILL dying over the juxtaposition of these two stores
I saw this pie safe and said ELD needs it
I really liked this flax wheel and I thought it was in the frame but isn't, a huge dough bowl, more like a trough, to the right side. I wanted that thing

wind makes your hair stand up
ETA : okay I decided to put the giveaway here too just in case you didn't want to head to jana's blog. Feel free to share the link.
