I could use some help
Oct. 1st, 2015 11:16 pmI'm trying to think of a way to motivate the students and/or get them thinking in ways other than memorize/regurgitate. I've been using superheroes in semester 2 but I'm thinking semester one needs some of that. Muscles/bones/skin are up next. Can you think of any superheroes/manga characters/SF creatures with specialized adaptations in these areas. Obviously we have Wolverine and his adamantium skeleton and the Thing with his skin. I could ask something like Bruce Banner used Gamma rays to up his muscle mass/strength. How do we do this in real life? What happens at a cellular level with exercise. So if you can think of characters, no matter how obscure that would be great. It'll give me more to work with. I'll be doing this with every system.
What does it mean when you go into Walmart to get a ball to do your hip/knee exercise and walk out with an Avenger Nerf ball? Thor, meet my inner thighs.
PT didn't go much better today. Oh well. I'm doing it but I'm not sure why I'm so blah about the lower limb stuff compared to when I did my upper limb stuff.
Even the students noticed I was off my game today. I think it's the 5 days of non-stop rain and damp chill. I like the cool weather but NOT when it's damp.
I think it's time to admit I'm watching SLeepy Hollow just because I think he's cute. Honestly I'm not even sure I saw the finale last season because i have no memory of it. Hope it's better this season or I'm done with it.
I tried to get an appt with the sports med doc. Every time I hit 1 for appointments it would tell me to put in the ext of the person i'm calling and whenever i called the operator she'd put me through to the broken system. I gave up. Called my doc for an appointment. Couldn't get one. Asked instead for a referral to the back guy I don't like in Chillicothe. Oh well, it's been years. let's see what happens now. PT is willing to say I'm working the back and the pain is getting worse. it's TIME for a MRI

I actually like season 2 overall despite the family drama dragged on for a while. I really like John Noble's performance as Henry, so the gap where Henry disappeared were where the episodes got eh for me. As for the season premiere, I appreciate the humor in the beginning and it's nice to see Abbie and Jenny again. I heard there's a new writer for this season and the showrunners want to take the show a different direction, so guess we'll wait and see how season 3 will do.

Date: 2015-10-02 10:41 am (UTC)As for superheroes, I'll have to admit I've always wondered how spider dna could cause such a cellular rearrangement that would give Peter Parker stronger muscles and bones, or how would Mr. Fantastic's body 'remember' his proper form, now that all his structural tissue could stretch and flex at will, including organs, lungs, etc. I'm not sure they are very good examples for your class, though.

I'm hoping this season will be worth watching. I have so many iffy shows right now

Hatori, who's zodiac animal is the dragon, actually turns into a seahorse & like a seahorse, he can't breathe out of water. XD And while it only lasts for a short time, he needs water or else. XD Yuki Sohma has asthma (he becomes a rat).
I wonder if you look hard enough at the X-Men, you'd find someone for whatever system you're teaching. They seem to be a very diverse bunch. :d
