poetry and meme's
Apr. 28th, 2005 05:43 pmI'm starting to feel a little better. I'd feel a lot better if someone could tell me how to make things into 100X100 squares on photoshop other than kicking off the constraint button which makes it look all wobbly and warped.
And in honor of poetry month I did something I rarely do, write poetry. I'm looking for honest opinions, so let me know what you think, what you like, what could be tightened, what's awkward. Thanks. Single Middle-aged Woman Blues (yeah, title suggestions would be welcome)
Single Middle-aged woman blues
Saturday late afternoon,
she faces another coffeehouse first date.
No expensive dinner commitments,
causal, hoping to relax
someplace neutral, safe.
You never know who’ll you’ll meet online.
She sips her coffee nervously.
Small talk swirls around them,
getting smaller with every breath
She doesn’t know why she tries.
He’s barely listening.
Bored? Shy? Indifferent?
Just here hoping for sex?
Maybe he felt that some lack of physical spark,
the disappointment when real faces
didn’t match chat-based fantasy.
He looks as tired as she feels.
Her eyes float back to the college kid who served her coffee;
his tousled hair, the brazen metal adornments
his lack of jaded eyes.
He’s still fresh and beautiful.
Maybe that’s why she’s always alone.
Her heart cries for something exotic,
something animated than the man before her.
Maybe that’s why she’s still alone
Her mind leave the date before her body.
It licks cappuccino foam off the college kid’s cheek
Then reality leaks in reminding her she seated with dullness.
She pulls on her coat of loneliness as she goes.
snagged this from...midnight Jane I think.

Your Life Path Number Is 1 |
1 Your Life Path is is characterized by individualist desires, independence, and the need for personal attainment. The purpose to be fulfilled on this Life Path is that of becoming independent. This is a two part learning process; first, you must learn to stand on your own two feet and learn not to depend on others. After you are indeed free and independent, you must learn to be a leader. Many of our generals, corporate leaders, and political leaders are men and women having the Life Path number 1. You always have the potential for greatness as a leader, and you may fail as a follower. Many 1's spend most of their lives shaking off their dependent side. When this happens, there is little time left for enjoying the rewards to be gained through independence. You may have to overcome an environment in which it is very easy to be dependent - and difficult to be independent. You have an abundance or creative inspiration - and possess the enthusiasm and drive to accomplish a great deal. Your drive and potential for action comes directly from the enormous depth of strength you have/ This includes both the physical and inner varieties of strength. With this strength comes utter determination and the capability to lead. As a natural leader you have a flair for taking charge of any situation. Highly original, you may have talents as an inventor or innovator of some sort. In any work that you choose, your independent attitude can show through. You have very strong personal needs and desires, and you feel it is always necessary to follow your own convictions. You are ambitious, and either understand or must learn the need for aggressive action to promote yourself. Although you may hide the fact for social reasons, you are highly self-centered and demand to have your way in most circumstances. If you are not fully developed, you may express the negative side of your number. That means your demeanor may appear very dependent rather than independent. If this is the case, you are likely to be very dissatisfied with your circumstances and long for self-sufficiency. On the strong side of this negative curve, the 1 energy can become too self-serving, selfish and egotistical. Over-confidence and impatience are the weak side of your Life Path. |

If you go over to the cropping tool options in the navagation window you can select Fixed Target Size and tell it how big to make it. You can make your window any size as long as it's square. Then go back and rescale it so that it's 100 pixels. Then you won't end up stretching in one direction.
Hope that helps.

Date: 2005-04-29 01:54 am (UTC)I think it speaks of growing old and older, youth faded when you never even realized it was dying. You reach out to touch someone and find rough skin beneath your fingers when your eyes saw only fair and you wonder which of your senses is lying and suspect it is both.
Oh yes, your words speak to me.

Date: 2005-04-29 03:24 am (UTC)I have a bad habit of skimming. And I saw that you were talking about poetry month and I didn't read carefully and thought the poem was written by someone else -- like the Robert Frost poem you posted. Sorry I didn't realize it was yours.
*someday aspires to not be a ditz*
But your poem has a heartbreakingly despondent feel to it. I really liked this:
Small talk swirls around them,
getting smaller with every breath
Very beautiful.
