Mostly a post about the finale because all I did today was grade and not make a dent in my ridiculous weekend work load.

I did rewatch last week's and hated it less. I think part of the problem last time is Mom & Dad have some of the earlier flat screen TVs with really shitty sound. It was easier to hear this time but still boring. It made grading look fun.

Is this Gallifry as the enemy thing new, a Moffat thing? I don't remember hearing about this from my friends back in the day. Granted I can understand being pissed off about being locked away for 4 billion years but I'm not even sure I fully understand what they wanted other than that hybrid thing.

What I do know is I hated that idea. Nearly turned it off.

I did like the diner scenes and I liked the last bit with him and Ashielda and Clara. I could even handle the idea of Clara and Ashielda taking 'the long way round.'

I see they are really laying the foundation for the next Dr to be female or another race. (I wouldn't mind an Asian Doctor.) I have no problems with that either.

I'm not fond of the idea that they are 'assigned' how many regenerations they get.

I'm assuming that Capaldi himself is a guitarist. I don't know that much about him.

Overall I liked this season (especially compared to the last) with the last three being big exceptions, especially the eye booger one. At least Clara's three part death was only dull in a lot of places and not utterly ridiculous).

I AM really looking forward to the Christmas special. That looks like a blast.

I know nothing about this company but someone sent it along to me. short story contest here. At least it's not charging. Wonders if I have anything that would work. Hmmm that vampire thing that's been bought and never published like a million times...

Kanda still has fleas. He's tearing out his hair as a result. Will call the vet on Monday to see if she'll sell me revolution since pet meds won't sell it to me without a prescription.

The Time Lords were often autocratic dicks in the old series, and some of them were downright evil, so this isn't that different. I think Moffat's actually dialed it back in having the ordinary non-Time Lord Gallifreyans be, well, ordinary -- with RTD, all we ever saw was the megalomaniac leaders.

I'm not sure if the president was supposed to be a new regeneration of the same guy as the president played by Timothy Dalton or not, but since he called himself Rassilon, I'm guessing he was. See, in the old series, Rassilon was a legendary figure, basically the founder of the Time Lords, immensely powerful and mysterious. (There was a running joke in fandom back then about "Fill in the blank of Rassilon," because various Helms of Rassilon, Gauntlets of Rassilon, etc. were plot McGuffins in so many episodes.) Original Rassilon never appeared in person, but there were a lot of hints that he was probably not a very nice guy.

So when the President that showed up at the end of Ten's run called himself Rassilon, old fans were "Huh?" because it wasn't clear if this was supposed to be A) Original Rassilon, somehow resurrected or something, B) A new character who happened to be named after the original Rassilon, or C) a retcon making Rassilon a present day character.

With this episode, and the President calling himself Rassilon reborn and generally acting like a power-mad loon, it looks as if we're supposed to take it that this President is a loon who thinks he's the original Rassilon reincarnated or something. Which is actually rather similar to some things that happened during... The Five Doctors, I think it was? Anyway, becoming obsessed with Rassilon and going evil seems to be an occupational hazard of being the President of Gallifrey.

(This is not even going into the weirdness going on during Seven's tenure, when the producer decided that the Doctor wasn't mysterious enough any longer, and did a bunch of stuff that strongly hinted that the Doctor was Rassilon...)

eta: And yeah, Capaldi plays guitar. He used to be in a band with Craig Ferguson...

I also rewatched last week's episode, but I still couldn't understand 1/2 of what Capaldi said. I think I'll watch it later online. :D

I kinda liked the previous season better. I'm not too sure I like the Doctor being a "hybrid" nor do I like the idea of Clara running around with Ashielda. That said, I did like that they made the Doctor forget Clara. :D Wish he could forget Ashielda too. I like her less than Clara & I wasn't that keen on Clara. She started out good as a character & then... I don't know, the more she was on, the more I disliked her. I'm also not too sure I like the idea of the Doctor being a woman, mainly cuz I'm afraid Moffet will ruin the character. ^^; *thinks he ruined the Master by turning him into Missy*

I'm sooo looking forward to seeing River again in the Christmas special! I LOVED the episodes where she used to turn up with Eleven & you got to see this disjointed love story. :D It'll be fun seeing her with Twelve! :D

Awe... poor Kanda! I hope he gets some flea relief!

In addition to

rahirah's comment about the Time Lords - in one of the Big Finish Radio Shows, Romana had returned and become President of Gallifrey and turned into a Bad Guy. It was during that time the planet exploded (or was otherwise destroyed), making the Doctor the last of the Time Lords (which I get is hinted at in the New Who eps?). I don't know if Moffat is taking any of that into account or not as the Big Finish Radio Shows are not always considered Canon for the TV series (same as the original novels, etc.).

It was still hard to understand

I hated last year. Absolutely hated. They did better with Clara this year and no I don't like her either. I had the same reaction to Ashieldr myself.

Honestly I don't want the Doctor to be a woman either. You want to give women good women roles? GO create some.

Poor thing! I did a quick search & found some natural ways to get rid of fleas. Some are better than others & it might be worth a shot to try it.

That last site seems to recommend using flea collars & stuff, but I don't know if that's really safe for a cat as don't contain poison to kill the fleas? It seems to me that bathing (poor Kanda!) & CLEANING like EVERYWHERE are going to eb your best bets. Good luck with it as I'm sure those fleas are making poor Kanda crazy!
