Writerly Ways
Dec. 20th, 2015 11:56 pmNot very coherent ones since I lay awake from 1-3:30 AM with my brain going I KNOW what questions to research for your weird west story. Thanks brain. You suck. You couldn't do that in normal working hours?
Speaking of writing things that suck, reviewers who make idiot comments. Yes, like I said before you really shouldn't read reviews especially on GR/Amazon where any troll can say anything (and amazon bans you from reviewing friends) but sometimes you can't help it. Outside of two friends, Soldiers of the Sun has exactly two reviews both bad. One who thinks Luc whines too much about losing the love of his life. I guess he was supposed to go 'oh well Li, bye.' and move on. Okay fine, that's a matter of taste. The other however is upset that it's a menage.
The blurb SAYS so. And this is a reviewer for a major review blog. Why read menages if you hate them? WHy read shifter stories if you hate them (I had that review on my one shifter story which is also clear in the blurb it's a shifter story), why read urban fantasy if you hate that? (Hello reviewer on Kept Tears).
That's the part I don't get. You'll notice I don't read and review half the stories I have promoed on
jana_denardo because I don't like the genre or the story line in general. I have them on the blog because I'm being nice to coworkers, more or less, and just because I don't like the genre doesn't mean all my friends feel the same. I don't ask for review copies of things I probably wouldn't like.
THis is how to not be an asshole.
If someone insists I read outside my genre I will. but usually if I do and I hate it I wont' review because I knew I was reading something I generally don't like. I'm currently reading Kim Fieldings The Tin Box which is contemporary. I like her and it's centered on an abandoned psych hospital which is an interest of mine but honest I didn't like it (I DO) I wouldn't review it.
I don't understand people who read things they dont' like then whine when a clearly advertised thing IS that thing they hate. I wouldn't care so much but reviews on AMazon and GOodread especially help drive sells. It does hurt when people do stuff like this. I'm not talking emotionally (well that too) but financially but maybe that's the point. If I keep bashing this thing I hate, then it'll never happen again...
On a non-writing note I finished wrapping stuff and we made gaulette which didn't go as planned. There are two irons. The one I had last year was super hot and cooked very fast. this year it was SO hot it was impossible to use. It's going in the trash so it took FOREVER. Also I ate a lot of the raw cookie dough because it's just butter brown sugar flour and eggs. if I'm in the ER tomorrow you know why.
The Steelers, OMG the damn Steelers. I watched the first half where they stank it up. I missed the second half when they had an amazing come back.
We were watching the Librarians and Mysteries of the Castle tonight while flipping over to see Miss Universe (still surprised Miss Australia didn't place because she was beautiful. I didn't want Miss Columbia to win because of how she answered and how she held herself. Yes I'm judging someone I've never met but she had that look, you know the one, the Cordelia Chase queen of mean on her face. I was disappointed she won then flabbergasted when Steve Harvey read the damn name wrong. I actually felt sorry for her but out of the three Miss Phillipines was the one I liked. Still, I can't imagine what it must feel like to wear the crown for a minute then have them say 'oops.'

Date: 2015-12-21 09:33 pm (UTC)I also don't get people who complain something's X when it's clearly marked X. Seriously. XD
How was Mysteries at the Castle? I wanted to watch it, but I missed it. XD
XD That must have been horrible & embarrassing for the poor woman who thought she won. XD I think they should have made it a tie. :D
